  • We installed our Dewalt 60 gallon Air Compressor in the new shop. We did the wiring and ran Pex plumbing to each bay for multiple outlets throughout the shop.

    Nice plumbing job. A few tips: It's too close to the wall. Should be at least 12" for adequate cooling. You have the fan almost against the wall. You need to break the compressor in by running it with the drain valve open for at least 30 minutes so that the rings set with no head pressure against it. Once you tighten the bolts on the floor, back them off a little. They should not be tight. You may want to make a hole in one of the legs and put the drain valve through it with a bushing to hold it in place.

    MAN! I had bought a compressor about 4yrs ago and your video helped me a lot to hook mine. I kept pausing to figure out the fittings and came short on a few BUT I'm a step closer to hooking it up as well. I'm using mine for upholstery and I'm excited to get it going too. Thank you for zooming in on the fittings lol.
    Much love and respect!
    Have a bless one! 🙏

    I just got one of these last week, did the 30 minute no load break in, and it's been perfect so far I haven't really stressed it out, but I am planning to try some sandblasting possibly tomorrow. The thing held within 3 pounds of 150psi for a week. Granted that is with an elbow, a couple of nipples, and a brass ball valve. I am pretty damn pleased so far. I have a 240v 20 amp outlet that has not been used since at least since 1986 or before. I made a power cord with some wire and replacement plug. I plugged it in, and it worked flawlessly!! My last one was a 6 horse 33 gal. oilless. This is a huge upgrade. Always buy more than you need for air equipment!! You will never regret it.

    I have that exact make and model of compressor. The air comes out of the pump at 225°F to 250°F. It warms up the whole tank. It also produces a lot of water that collects in the bottom of the tank.
    My very next project will be to add a Derale 15300 tube and fin cooler mounted to the outside of the belt guard in front of the fan.
    I ran 3/8" air hose though 3/4" PVC conduit to branches by my lathes and mill, with extra outlets by the machine shop garage door. I have a 50' airline reel in the wood shop.
    The other thing you will discover is that this compressor gives a whole new meaning to loud. Mine is 106 dbA @ three feet well above the permanent ear damage level with relatively short exposure. It's loud all over the inside of my shop. The compressor runs at about 2,000 rpm which doesn't help. The inlet air filter is also too small - it sucks the cover back on if you remove and replace it while the machine is running. It's loud enough that I'm considering replacing the pump with the HF 3.7hp rated pump that will run at half that speed and produce ~15dbA lower sound level if the owner's manual is correct.
    I bought it to replace my Sears Campbell Hausfield compressor that I bought new 55 years ago that ran at 733 rpm and wasn't even 5% as annoying to listen to as this DeWalt.

    I plumbed mine with pex and oetiker style clamps on inexpensive brass pex fittings and its going on 4 years now without an issue and I keep it pressurized all the time so thats 4 years of 140psi in the pex. I'm in Florida so the pex definitely sees high temps (particularly inside my barn which can hit 110f regularly through the summer) but nothing below around 32f here so I can't speak to how it will hold up in really cold weather.

    Lucas, when you install your concrete anchor bolts, drill your concrete, then just drop them in the hole of the legs on the equipment once your equipment is in place, then knock the anchors down onto the equipment mounts, tighten the nut. That way you`re not lifting things to set them onto the threaded studs. Much faster and alot more easier doing it this way. Lord knows, i`ve put a billion of those concrete threaded anchors in, in my lifetime of installing machines in shops and buildings.

    • @PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
      @PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead  2 года назад +1

      Good advice! I ended up having a little trouble getting it lined up the way I did it. I appreciate the comment!

      You`re very welcome buddie. Sometimes though, you can`t get a drill in some areas when you try to run the drill bit directly thru the machine mounts. In that case, i just center punch a hole on the concrete surface, move the machine, drill it out, then move the equipment over the hole, then drop the anchor thru the hole, tap it down, tighten the nut.

    This looks good and everything but have you noticed every video that people do where the compressor is inside the shop every time it cuts on they have to stop and wait until it cuts off, I am in the process of building a 6ft x 6ft pad behind my shop so I have plenty of room around it for ventilation as well as to be able to work on it..

    How I’m doing it video 😆! I like that! Your going to have a really nice shop once this is all completed. I think you did a good job on how you routed the piping. What’s your plans for the shop? Personal use or doing outside work? I love having a shop, it’s such a good investment, eventually I’d like to build onto mine and have a separate tool storage room for things that doesn’t get used often. Take care!

    • @PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
      @PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead  2 года назад

      Thanks, we are sure excited about it! We are just using it for personal use, but we get roped into helping out friends with their cars here and there. I figure it will be something that will make our lives easier, make it a little easier to help others, and most importantly get my teenage son to bring his buddies to hang out and work in the shop rather than being out running around somewhere else. 😂 We’ll see how that goes.

    Nice setup Lucas! I never would have considered pex for airlines. It seems like it would be much safer than pvc. When I was a teenager, we made a pneumatic potato gun out of pvc. it worked amazing until one of the 90s shattered and the barrel hit me across the chest and laid me out. But man, that gun would turn a potato into a wet spot and nothing else. You are going to have one nice shop! I'm really excited to see the lift get installed. Do you already have stuff lined up to put on the lift?
