I just come back once every year to this scotland videos. Don't know why but i'm just intriged by this series. Hope you're doing well and having a good life.
Love your adventures in life Dan. I really enjoy the wild Scotland. A very dear friend of mine I have known all my life and was like a grandfather to my kids and my wife and myself. He is from Scotland and use to tell me all about it. Unfortunately I can't travel to see for myself due to a spine condition. So going on this adventure from home is fun. And with our friend John who is not with us anymore. A proud Vet of WW2 Royal Engineers and Always proud Scot. It's nice to see his homeland that he romantically reminisced about so often.
A drain. There are plenty of things to do. Carve a walking stick. You can make a new one each day as you walk. Measure your pulse. As it lowers day by day, you are getting in better shape. Fish for dinner one day.
This is exactly why I now hammock instead of bivouacking or tenting when in the backcountry because it can be hard to find a good ground spot plus hammocks with fly are usually lighter and quicker to set up or tear down. Good video
Hi Dan, great videos! Really enjoyed watching them so far! I did something very similar a few years ago now, I also spent a couple of nights along the Feshie River during a 6 month stint living out of a 1 man tent. Watching you up to this point brings back a lot of memories of my trips and some hard lessons that I learned. One thing I want to share with you for if you ever do something like this again was my biggest lesson.... Take a handheld axe with you, and keep it sharp! A good axe keeps you alive in the woods, a sharp axe makes life comfortable ;) Always split your firewood, ideally every piece you place on a fire should be split, especially when trying to cook something. Use your axe to split logs into smaller and smaller pieces and use these to start your fire. You can start a fire in the rain by splitting wood down to its dry core, it really can be a lifesaver and is by far the most efficient way to burn wood. I was more prepared that you were for my adventure, so far I really admire the way you have taken on the challenge despite the low points, I also really struggled with the fitness to start with. Its not as easy as people think to live outside for more than a day or two! Mind you ... if it was easy.. everyone would do it! Looking forward to watching the rest of this series, keep up the good work old boy!
So jealous Dan. What a great adventure. Thank you for bringing us along. Adding to my bucket list. Maybe I'll reach out to you later for the route you've taken. Would love to try it for myself.
Dan I am sat here at my kitchen table in Doncaster absolutely in tears laughing at your comment 'you just panic a bit don't you when there's flames all over and it's attached to a big bangy thing'...I'm actually giggling while I'm writing!! Good on you Sir
Thirple D I love your videos and find myself every Monday Wednesday and Friday wanting more I am really loving the cooking show its really fun to watch but I enjoy all the others as well.. Keep up the great work 😃😃
Dan, I almost wet myself when you were talking about standing still or moving around when youre on the phone, and started spinning,, Thank You from a fellow metal detectorist who lives in Northern Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire (the stomping ground of Robin Hood)
haha just saw the part of Queen Vic and her lover than you went bazooka's with the camera turning and turning. Loving this video and your humor. thx! Makes me want to see Mountains again...(gandalf?)
I say, you're an adult and you can do what you want. You're not breaking any youtube rules by having a drink. I've seen much more irresponsible videos with drinking in them. Bottom line if a child is watching this then it's their parents responsibility to teach them about alcohol and why an adult can drink it but they can't. It's not like you're drinking on camera excessively. I've only seen you after you bought a few beers and just now holding the whiskey. If you hadn't mentioned it I probably wouldn't have ever thought anything about it. If I were out there I sure wouldn't mind having a bit of whiskey.
Hey Dan, sometimes the best place to camp is in the middle of the path, usually worn flat from hikers. Enjoying your videos, keep it up you're doing great!
Hi dan, next time you come across a river you can take your boots/shoes off and roll your trousers up, walk through then dry your legs off, sure you'll get wet but your gear will stay dry :)
Great stuff Treble D, You have picked up some really good footage in this video with of the surrounding scenery. Your right mate everyone should get out and see it. I think a hammock would have been a good thing to take in the area with the amount of trees. Atb Glenn.
Watch every video myself! When the intro started in this video, my brain thought, "Hangin out with my bud Dan for 20 minutes or so sounds great right now!" Thanks for your time man. Your personality brightens peoples day! Stay safe! P.S. Do they make decent "travel" metal detectors? If not lets make some money!
well said mate - nice to see your having a wee dram Welcome to Scotland, there's no animals 'cos they're all drunk all the best mate - really entertaining video, you're very funny and I could spend a few days having a laugh with y'all Mark
Hay Dan thats a beautiful place is there fish in the rivers there. Would of been nice to see you fish and do a cooking video. Maybe you can do something next year where you can have some of your RUclips subscriber come with you they pay there way of course. I would of love to go there some day. Bucket list.
I met a really nice older man from Scotland on an Alaskan Cruise. One day while we were sitting outside the Irish pub on the ship having a beer, he quipped about wasting thousands of dollars to go to a place that looked just like Scotland. Haha. Now I see what he means.
If you're having trouble finding a campsite suitable for a tent why not bring a hammock and tarp? It's a fairly light weight setup and if you bring a bivy too you're still set up for a ground.
2:53 chances are that's a cattle grid. The reason it only takes up half the road is probably because the road has been rebuilt to the side but they couldn't move the cattle grid so they just left it.
You can drink on your channel all you wish, I however do wish to give you a careful warning not to overdo it. Camping and alcohol do not mix well, you need a clear head. Else you may end up burning the whole forest down or with colder weather you will get hyperthermia faster then you know. The alcohol may give your body a warm feeling, but actually your body will loose heat even faster then. 5:51 Those metal bars in the ground there are there to prevent cattle from moving from one plot of land to the next. No gate will be needed and thus can the farmer move over that road a lot quicker. This one is no longer active clearly since there are no fences on either side or other means to keep cattle on one side. The metal bars earlier in the video could mean the same, although I am not sure since those are only half way over the road. I do not know that type unfortunately.
One word..........Westphalia. Ditch the tent. You are up off the ground, has a proper bed, fridge, cooker. Lights, TV if you want one. Can even take your metal detector. Gorgeous views on this trip.
Dann next time if you find a stream like that throw your backpack to the other side it will give you even more reasons to find a way to the other side xD
Aye, you're thinking about Queen Vicky and John Brown. They eventually called her Mrs Brown. ;) It was Billy Connelly (?) who played John Brown in the film called... Mrs Brown.
3:00 In the USA we have something similar like this that keeps cattle from wondering down the road. Yet there are no fences... I dont know. Weird. 5:44 thats what ours kinda looks like but not so long. 4:35 I have kids. I can curse around them. They can watch movies like rambo. Why? Because i take the time to explain to them how its BAD or they cant do it till they are older or its just television its not real. Now i go into MUCH more explanation then just simply that when talking to them. Teach kids to do what you say, not do what you do. Otherwise they will go on in life thinking they can do whatever anyone else is doing whether its bad or good. Which is wrong. I don't expect schools or anything else to do this for me. Like most parents do... So i agree with you Dan.
jack arrowsmith remove boots & socks to keep them dry!! Remove back pack so if you slip, it does not get wet or you getting hurt.It has f"*k all to do with sharp objects.
Im loving these vids. Ray Mears ? Bear Grylls ? Gang of girls them lot with all there camera crews. Dan deserves to be on the discovery channel not them haha
Hi ive watched them all so far. How are you charging your phone and camera. Would like to no because im doing the same kind of thing. Im starting in april from skipton to lake district to keilder forest. Galloway forest. Loch lomond and the other parks till I get to Inverness. Should be one hell of a journey for this yorkshire lad. Same here.
Another great video, Dan! I'm really enjoying watching your adventure. You always make me laugh.

This is actually brilliant! All the stuff that goes through your head while camping. Great laugh and brilliant video,
This is exactly why I now hammock instead of bivouacking or tenting when in the backcountry because it can be hard to find a good ground spot plus hammocks with fly are usually lighter and quicker to set up or tear down. Good video

haha just saw the part of Queen Vic and her lover than you went bazooka's with the camera turning and turning. Loving this video and your humor. thx! Makes me want to see Mountains again...(gandalf?)
wild camping in Scotland wow looks fantastic great vid
+Deep Digger Dan Yes!!!
Nice adventure Dan. I hope you are packing for protection. A little whiskey keeps you going Dan. Forge ahead.

john papple Couldn't agree more, Parents need to take responsibility for influencing their offspring instead of leaving it to so called "Role Models".
Hey Dan, sometimes the best place to camp is in the middle of the path, usually worn flat from hikers. Enjoying your videos, keep it up you're doing great!
Great video. Like to see them. Yes, absolutely enjoy your drink. You need it in that weather. We are in Tasmania, Australia
Thanks Dan for the entertainment :)
I also love your cooking vids.
Beautiful places! Thank you for sharing it!
these videos are great Dan, thanks for sharing.
Hi dan, next time you come across a river you can take your boots/shoes off and roll your trousers up, walk through then dry your legs off, sure you'll get wet but your gear will stay dry :)
great video Dan love everyone of your videos please do it again one day 😃
Great stuff Treble D, You have picked up some really good footage in this video with of the surrounding scenery. Your right mate everyone should get out and see it. I think a hammock would have been a good thing to take in the area with the amount of trees. Atb Glenn.
Hi Dan. Another great wilderness video buddy. Those grates in the road are Alien Docking stations. Either that or for drainage. ;) Be Safe, ttyl -Drew
What you haven't twigged is that about three days behind you is a metal detectorist scanning the 20p pieces you don't know you've lost...
the rods on the road is an old cattle crossing it pushes them single file to the right as they tend not to be able to cross the pipes, i think.
That thing with two pipes was a drainage thingy which drains the water when it's running on the road.
i laughed so hard when you started making fun of the tree
Watch every video myself! When the intro started in this video, my brain thought, "Hangin out with my bud Dan for 20 minutes or so sounds great right now!"
Thanks for your time man. Your personality brightens peoples day! Stay safe!
P.S. Do they make decent "travel" metal detectors? If not lets make some money!
triple D the highway tripper had a tipple {or 2}. made it look oh so true. cheers.
Love it Dan!! gotta keep on doing this style of vid!! .......Jimmy..........
Loving the vids Dan. Watching during my lunch time. I posted a question on Bleep and not heard anything yet, hope to hear something soon.
And ironic that the youtube advertisement before this episode was for booze traveler. LOL
At 6:20... The wee abandoned house, it's the But n Ben 😂😂
what a fantastic landscape, Ilove it!!! and you are in the middle :o) congratulate
Hi Dan, Another great video...cheers,G.;)
well said mate - nice to see your having a wee dram
Welcome to Scotland, there's no animals 'cos they're all drunk
all the best mate - really entertaining video, you're very funny and I could spend a few days having a laugh with y'all
Mark
Mark Smith Bushcraft union jack isn't a Scots flag or have any place in Scotland

thing on the road looks like a cattle guard, but usually they are a bit wider and go all the way across a road
2:59 I think they are to catch wondering sheep so that the farmer can get it later.
That looked like a great trip.
If you're having trouble finding a campsite suitable for a tent why not bring a hammock and tarp? It's a fairly light weight setup and if you bring a bivy too you're still set up for a ground.
you cannot go to Scotland and not drink whisky that would be like going to Anfield and not watching the match. Love the videos, keep 'em commin' .
2:53 chances are that's a cattle grid. The reason it only takes up half the road is probably because the road has been rebuilt to the side but they couldn't move the cattle grid so they just left it.
Like your video.fun to watch :))......keep it up
Camp anywhere you like. Don't let the man tell you otherwise
You can drink on your channel all you wish, I however do wish to give you a careful warning not to overdo it. Camping and alcohol do not mix well, you need a clear head. Else you may end up burning the whole forest down or with colder weather you will get hyperthermia faster then you know. Any gold found in that Greek? I know for a fact that would be out there with the pan testing here and there special on that broken down wall
dan you should've drank the whisky fast like we Scottish do lol keeps you warm plus it makes everything alright for a while haha :)
Where have you been " my China" ?? Great to see you again!!
Dann next time if you find a stream like that throw your backpack to the other side it will give you even more reasons to find a way to the other side xD
Whenever you go to the Cairngorms you should always check the weather forecast and English people forecast.
I think the metal rods in the road are to alert deer of an oncoming vehicle
You should've metal detected around those buildings... Careful for those trees Dan.
Be well,
AL-Fu
There was a lot of wind but mind you brandy will do that to a untrained pallet 😊
Aye, you're thinking about Queen Vicky and John Brown. They eventually called her Mrs Brown. ;) It was Billy Connelly (?) who played John Brown in the film called... Mrs Brown.
Uh...no, John. Maybe it was James Brown. ;)
I don't blame you have a drink, just be careful because it may feel like its warming but actually It can lower your body temp.
Hi dan. The things in the road were to drain the water, I think
Nice video Dan

It's a simple Water Drain, for when it's raining cats and dogs, 'in't ? Even a flamin' yank would know that, 'in't?
I thought you were 27? And gosh, that old house at 5:17. Too bad you didn't have your detector!
Enjoy your videos! ??? Could you share what brand/model tent you are using. Thanks!
More beautiful everyday! You made me dizzy. As silly as u can b ur still very brave in my book being out there on ur own (:
Dan you are the man
Dan,at river crossing remove your boots and socks, also remove your backpack, throw to opposite side if possible.
Watch out for sharp pebbles or smashed bottled :)
Bottles"
jack arrowsmith remove boots & socks to keep them dry!! Remove back pack so if you slip, it does not get wet or you getting hurt.It has f"*k all to do with sharp objects.
enjoyable =] thanks dan
Nice video dan :)
Im loving these vids. Ray Mears ? Bear Grylls ? Gang of girls them lot with all there camera crews. Dan deserves to be on the discovery channel not them haha
13:56 ha too funny, "nah I won't go into detail" ha
I want to be your friend Hahaa, really cool video
if you can will you do some kind of review for metal detectors for beginners please
Hello, can you make navigation of the places you ve been in in description
Those pipes in the road are for draining the road if there is water running down it
That tree next to you at 20.38 has a face. Its either tired or your standing on one of its roots.
Also if you want to see dans impression of a tree pause the video at 20.35.
I wish you had brought your detector... Looked like a few nice spots there to hunt.
I think the problem is, even though the XP Deus is portable to some extend, It still take up quite a lot of space in your backpack.
its illegal to detect where he is if i remember from the vlogs before the trip
Oh ok... That makes sense then...You know he is thinking about it when he looks at the foundations lol
But wanting to take pics and vids but dont no how to charge my phone up on the road. Dont no if solar power works
Im pretty sure he uses the villages and things that he passes through.
You can buy a solar powered charger, I think that's what he's using
You needed a Metal Detector for that Building.. Bet its never been checked....
Nice video, Dan! Are you going to make a metal detecting video this friday or do you still have nowhere to go?
***** you said you couldnt grow a proper man beard
What was the temperature while you were there? I always thought of Scotland as being much colder.
Serious camping swag
The 2 pipes are to slow down speeders or something. I'm guessing a warning to let them know not to speed and hit wildlife.
absolutely love it when Scottish accent says something stupid or is dissing someone it sounds so funny
and when he was yelling at the tree
That's not a Scottish accent lol
Is that a Berghaus Vulcan II Cyclops backpack 80L plus 10L? at 1min31sec? How was it to hike with that? to heavy? or just right?
