Landfilling plastic isn't a sustainable solution because plastics take hundreds to thousands of years to decompose, can leak harmful chemicals, and landfills have limited space. Instead of breaking down, plastics persist in the environment, contributing to pollution and harming wildlife. It's more effective to reduce plastic use, recycle, and seek sustainable alternatives.
@unraveltalks bull shit 2 postgraduate students from McMaster University drilled core samples from a number of land fills in Ontario to prove we were destroying the planet. They found no plastic, just an infestation of wax worms. Now they run a number of facilities in the states that produce hospital grade polypropylene glycol feeding plastic waste to wax worms. It takes a maximum of 2 years!
@unraveltalks in the mid 80s, a container load of plastic rubber duckies when overboard on a cargo ship in the Pacific, and they spread all over the globe, making the Ocean currents. In three years, they had all been consumed by bacteria in the oceans. Look it up!
@@terenceiutzi4003 I like how you have a diverse knowledge base already. Landfilling paper and cellulose-based plastics (often considered more eco-friendly alternatives to conventional plastics) does present a different scenario compared to landfilling traditional plastics. Paper and cellulose plastics are indeed more biodegradable; they break down much faster than conventional plastics, often within weeks to a few months under the right conditions. This quicker decomposition rate reduces their long-term environmental impact and the space they occupy in landfills. However, the benefits of landfilling these materials instead of recycling or composting them are still limited. When organic materials like paper decompose in landfills, they often do so anaerobically (without oxygen) due to the compact nature of the waste. This process can produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Ideally, paper and cellulose plastics should be recycled or composted where possible. Composting, in particular, returns nutrients to the soil and reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to landfilling. Furthermore, while cellulose-based plastics are an improvement over conventional plastics, they still require proper industrial composting facilities to break down efficiently. Not all regions have the necessary infrastructure to handle these materials appropriately, leading to their potential mismanagement. I hope this answers your question

Definitely agree to that!
Single use plastic is one of the core reasons to escalate plastic pollution

Another hero surfaced
Indeed, it's inspiring to see individuals stepping up to tackle environmental issues like plastic pollution. Heroes in this context aren't just those making headlines, but also every person making an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle in their daily lives. Each action, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to a larger impact on our planet's health. Let's celebrate these heroes and continue to spread awareness and encourage action within our communities. Together, we can create a wave of change that leads to a cleaner, more sustainable world for ourselves and future generations.

Why aren't we landfilling the plastic and let nature get ride of it without pollution .
Look it up!
@unraveltalks land filling paper is landfilling Cellulose plastic and is that suitable?
