Brendan, you are a star!!! I have played drums for years with bands and therefore have the independence in my hands, but this has been a burning ambition for some time now to obtain a reasonable standard of proficiency on the piano. Your lessons are an invaluable source of learning. again, many thanks
Brendan: My 16-year-old son and I heard some Boogie Woogie piano this past week when we were on vacation in Florida, and ever since we have been throroughly enjoying and learning from your videos. For now, I play the left hand and he plays your right hand riffs, and it sounds fantastic!! Thanks so much for these great videos!!
Cheers. I will do a series soon devoted solely to rock n roll piano. Jerry Lee Lewis' piano style is a world unto itself and deserves in depth treatment. Thanks for your encouraging comments. BK
Thanks for this Brendan. I spent ages being a reasonable boogie woogie pianist but found myself stuck in a bit of a rutt. Your videos have inspired me to work on my playing and have added an extra dimension. I particularly love your Jerry Lee Lewis stuff. Please keep it coming!
Love your work. I look at these things over and over and over and over. I look forward to seeing your new stuff too. I'm 66. I've seen Jerry Lee a bunch of times. I remember back about 30 years ago being in position to see his hands and how that shed light (for me) on what he was playing. I also recall a conversation I had with Eddie Harsch in '88 (then piano 4 Albert Collins) how I'd like to be able to create a loop and watch stuff over & over. Would love slow motion too if possible. Thanks.
Another terrific lesson. You are doing a great service to piano players everywhere. Especailly cool is the way you show he difference between Rock N Roll and Blues. Great stuff!! You're also one hell of a player!!

just found this video, and watched the 'how to use this channel' - thankyou for taking the time to help people who don't have time/money for lessons. Love the internet. Thanks man
Hello there Brendan! I will come to the UK and try to find you one day! I am one of your biggest fan! I am a boogie woogie player because of you! I love the videos man
Great video, as always :) You've had a lesson about pentatonic scales. Maybe a idea for a future lesson would be to make a video about when to use which scale. E.g. if you play in C, you could use the C minor blues scale or the A minor (or actually C major) blues scale. I hope you'll consider it, thanks!
你好!Hello!I am from china, thanks for your lesson,I first watch your video from chinese youtube youku(优酷),very less playnist can play boogie woogie in china,I want learn these ,I love this music!Thank you,感谢!
1st time I have seen you on here . yes you rock . I just love to make it up as I go along . I do 12 bar blues . but I am not that fast at it . but with me when I sit at the piano and make up turns I just get lost in my music and time gos fast.
I would to love to know your story Dr K as when I search for you, you only come up as RUclips videos, as I am more a person who enjoys getting to know the background of musicians.
Superb Brendan! as much as I love the boogie woogie and will continue to watch all your wonderful clips this is the stuff I've really been looking for....Jerry Lee, Little Richard..Great! Please keep them coming. Many many thanks for all your time and hard work.....Just Brilliant I know it's been said before but, if you could only show or tell us all the notes your playing it would help. I'm sure i'm playing them all but not necessary in the right order (sorry Eric Morecombe, your gag)
Glad you mentioned the singing ,I'm always embarased to have a go at singing ....even on my own .I need to get over it and have a go .Thanks for the lesson .
yor are the best, your clips are perfect, just bought a digi piano 2 months ago and learing by doing my left hand goes better every week... this clip are my favorite... can you make an better clip for beginner ? its to fast for me... I want play it complete like you :-)
Brendan Kavanagh A friend of mine once told me I married above my station. Which , I guess, is true . I lived in Greenwich Village at the time and the wedding was in the Columbia University area around 120th street ,about 100 blocks above my station ( 14th street)
What was the riff in the right hand when you come down the keyboard between pounding out the chords? It is the same riff you taught in lesson 2? 3? Is it in another lesson? I bought your bad ass bundle a year ago and am now finally getting time everyday to practice and love it.
Great!!!! I play mostly classical piano, but Im learning rock n roll piano! Do you have any tips, like other videos, dvds, books or songs for playing a real rock n roll piano, I mean, fast stuff only? Thanks!!!
Hi Brendan Got the left hand nailed but having difficulty with the right hand after you play the F sharp grace note and the C & G simultaneously, it's just going too fast for me to pick out all the notes. Could you either break it down real slow or just tell me the sequence of the runs please? Inspirational! Thanks again
Thanks, that;s great.. Iam, trying to play rock n roll for the first time.. The song I am learning is JINGLE BELLS, Looks hard and I need to work hard..
Great lesson thanks. I've been practising left hand and right hand for many months but can't seem to get it smooth and right. I seem to be able to play most other pieces but rock and boogie seem to elude me. How many hours do I need to practice to get good right & left riffs, or should I give up as I just don't seem to have the gift? How many hours did you practice. Thanks again. David J.
Hi I have a question: what type of digital piano from Yamaha is suitable for what you sung here (boogie-woogie). I plan on buying Clavinova CLP 535. Is it OK, or I need something better in order to get this boogie woogie sound. Thank you!
This was my favourite musical style to play as a kid, but I have always shied away from singing. I have developed the habit of playing melody lines in the right hand instead. I'm slowly accepting that imagining the words takes away some of the listener appeal though.
Could you pleeeease give a lesson on the style of Little Richard? How he does that CRAZY FAST right hand movements? (Like the stuff you did at the end of this video too)
In a band situation do you get the bass player to lay off, double up, just play roots . . . ? If you are improvising, well you couldn't improvise the left hand if the bass was doubled but he could play roots or root - five without causing too much trouble. What do you do? For that matter why have a bassist at all?
Get rid of the grace note, and just *plays jerry lee boogie stuff* I had to slow it down to see what order the notes are in lol, great tutorial but woulda been helpful to hear what order those notes are generally going in and when to change em up and whatnot, although I supposed thats up to the player 🤷♂️
Ca va pas la tête ? Too fast. BUT, for your tricks ( A.milburn ) and having shown your wonderful girlfriend, A HUGE THANKS ! Vive les anglais et les mangeurs de grenouilles. Don' t try les escargots.... c 'est big beurk ! baaah.... XC

I simply love the way you play since I watched the first "public piano" music with you👏👏👏👏👏
To be honest, I don't think I'd find teaching this way rewarding. Need to have face to face contact for proper lessons.

Or perhaps Yamaha YDP 240 is better?
can you slow those right hands down?so good
check out the 'slowed down boogie riffs' playlist on the main RUclips page.
This was my favourite musical style to play as a kid, but I have always shied away from singing. I have developed the habit of playing melody lines in the right hand instead. I'm slowly accepting that imagining the words takes away some of the listener appeal though.
I've noticed you don't use the pedals so much. Is it common in R&R not to use the foot pedals?
I'm SO jealous !!! Why didn't I keep on taking my piano lessons when I was young !!! Awesome !
Thanks Mary
Could you pleeeease give a lesson on the style of Little Richard? How he does that CRAZY FAST right hand movements? (Like the stuff you did at the end of this video too)
Hello brilliant lessons any chance of a right hand rock n roll turn around?
In a band situation do you get the bass player to lay off, double up, just play roots . . . ?
If you are improvising, well you couldn't improvise the left hand if the bass was doubled but he could play roots or root - five without causing too much trouble. What do you do?
For that matter why have a bassist at all?
its right, also in jerry lees band it was often so, the bassist plays the root notes of the bass part
*of the left hand bass part
Please do this at a public piano
Pas comparable ! Le son piano différent ....
Can any one tell me if there's a lesson on the riff at 6.10 to 6.15? It's a must have!
Why this is so difficult!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAA 😠😠I must be able to play it, this will become my life Misson 😊
