    I play piano and was familial with some of these , this was really helpful . I found the first ones more difficult to play fast and the ones near the end easier . I play numbers 7 and 8 slightly differently , I pivot on my thumb between each note so it's a very busy eighth note pattern , it's actually less difficult in a way , the other fingers find there place easier with the thumb locked in place

    Thanks for posting this. I am a bass player and not really a keyboardist, although I really can do some nice things with my right hand.(as long as I leave the left out ) For instance, while performing with Beatlemania, The piccolo trumpet solo on Penny Lane, or in my last band the solo for Del Shannon's Runaway. However, when I add the left hand the right tends to forget what it's doing! I am going to practice these! Again, thanks.

    Hi
    The difference is in the timing - the notes are the same. So pattern 1 is so called "straight 8s" whereas pattern 10 is swung, or alternatively notated in 12/8. I included both as the feel is quite different, as the pattern 10 has a much more laid back feel (more like a Blues feel), and that will change what you play in the right hand.
    Hope that helps.

    I noticed you don't play with swing in your bass? I though what seperated boogie woogie from rock n roll is that bpogie woogie had swing.

    A variation on Pattern 6, where I first heard it as a kid is the boogie woogie jam that Bugs Bunny and the mouse do in Rhapsody Rabbit.
    Sounds like root--3rd--5th--6th--octave (instead of the flat 7th), with alternating octaves. Man, that's a workout.

    I noticed that you have a paper version of the 10 patterns. Is it possible to purchase these to memorize each pattern. All I have ever heard about playing the boogie woogie is to memorize the left pattern until you can play them and hold a conversation at the same time. It would be helpful to have some simple right hand notes to add to it. I have been playing using Fake Piano books for years. Thanks for the teaching help.

    Great player, great sheet music and great little lesson! .. but I have a question ...Is it indicated the fingering ( especially of left hand ) on the sheet music that I can buy? I would like to know the most correct fingering for example for pattern 3 to avoid hands problems in a future.
    Sorry for my bad english...
    Thank you in advance!
    Ale

    Same notes, but different feel. The first is straight 8's in 4/4, the second is in triplets in 4/4, or could be written in 12/8 as crotchet, then quaver, etc.

  • @ghoulidee

    Hello. Any chance you could email me on this question? I read music just well enough to follow a single-note melody line. All else by ear. Could use something to practice reading, in order to better regiment my practices, develop my muscles , and get into theory. This is very helpful.

    Great video, thanks a lot. I still have one question however, is it just me or does the 1st and le 10th patterns the exact same just played at different rythms. And if so, how to achieve the difference?

    • @whmozart
      @whmozart 10 лет назад +1

      you have answered your own question within the question. Pattern 1 is both 8th notes and pattern 10 is 1 8th and a dot and 1 16th. It gives it a more swing/blues feeling instead of square rock n roll. (I love square rock n roll btw)
