    Really good example of all of the skills needed to make a tool from scratch (apart from it being a ready made file of course) but the cutting, grinding, shaping, the handle cavity, turning, the ferule; the whole process. Good job.

    Nice job. I have a big old file that I need to make one of these with. Save $200 over a commercial one.

    I have made many homegrown tools during my 20 + years turning. It is a good feeling to end up with a great tool and LOW cost too. Great job.

    You are right Δημητρη…for hardening/annealing the file ,I am going to do the same since my file scraper is not all that good ( not holding edge not scraping properly )

    ωραίο βγήκε ρε παλικάρι μπράβο σου ! έχεις φτιάξει ολόκληρο σετ ! ένας φίλος έφτιαξε bowl gouge από καραμπίνα ! έχε το νου σου μπας και βρεις τίποτα θα αξίζει Τον κόπο να το ανεβάσεις !

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад +1

      Καλόοο, τα κουρμπαριστά ακόμη τα δουλεύω στο μυαλό μου. Το bowl όμως είναι σημαντικό εργαλείο και ίσως πρέπει κανείς να επενδύσει σε ένα! Θέλω πολύ να φτιάξω ένα μεγάλο spindle ξεχονδριστήρι! Είδομεν!

    Great build, I also make a lot of my tools from old files and tool steel. Only one question though and not a critical one, why did you decide to harden it since files and tool steel come hardened? Maybe you know something that I don't? Please reply.

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад +1

      Perhaps this was not a necessary step. But the angle grinder kind of burns the steel. It seems to hold an edge fine this way!

    • @FromTheHeartWoodMK

      Looks like it cuts great, I'll be adding this to my list of tools to build!

    nice work, best tools = self-made, you love epoxy 5 min, don't you?

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks. it's a really cool glue for glueing different materials

    • @NiceTubeAccount
      @NiceTubeAccount 7 лет назад +1

      the epoxy resin is hard to get, the glue probably too? the epoxy resin is only available online, there is no such thing in local stores :(

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад +1

      The resin is more difficult to find. But at least in Greece you can find epoxy glue almost everywhere!

    • @NiceTubeAccount
      @NiceTubeAccount 7 лет назад

      Strange thing, why the polyester resin is almost everywhere but epoxy nowhere locally, only at the Internet.

    Ever same music ?
    I do like it
    but you don't have to heat treat the file
    just do the annealing process 😃

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад

      Ι guess you are right about the heat treating. It doesn't hurt anyway!

    What happened to the cut off wheel on the grinder?! It looked like it the edge had broken apart

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  7 лет назад +1

      When I use the angle grinder with the disc parallel to the surface the disc loses material from the flat side. It was not broken, the wire inside the disc just came out. At this point the disc might brake, that's why we need to use the guard. Anyway the wire mess inside the disc helps a lot in these situations!

      Dude, this man made an awesome video of making a scraper out of a file. And all you got out of it, did that thingy break? You dumb ass
