When drilling metal, you should always wear safety glasses. Metal shrapnel in an eye is not good! Be safe Trent
And the dogs should not be wandering around where there's metal shavings.
And those boots will have little metal shavings embedded, I assume they don't come in the house.
👓🎧 need to use these to protect your eyes and ears.
My dad got a metal bit in his eye once and did not have fun.
My first thought was 'metal dust in the eyes !!! OUCH !!!.....WHY, oh WHY doesn't Trent wear safety glasses ??????
Trent, I usually don’t like people telling you what to do but, this time I must agree. Wear safety glasses when drilling metal !!
Yeah I m the same but seen my brothers and ex have to go to er for eye injuries. I always get mad when people/viewers give advice
As a machine shop owner let me give you a tip. Drill a smaller hole, say around 3/8" and then drill the 3/4" hole. it will go much faster.
This is exactly the way to go when you drill holes in metal. Smaller holes first. It’s way faster and you save your bits
Probably more accurate too. Pilot hole less likely to wander, then the big bit will just follow the pilot hole.
@@soupofpossibilities8537 absolutely
This! Doing a pilot hole will make your life so much easier when doing large holes. Keeps you on center and drills so much faster.
OMG! Saftey glasses while drilling PLEASE Trent!
@@loppylou490 my granddad lost sight in one eye due to a piece of metal in his eye, be careful!
I still think putting a camera on Frank and Lyka when they are wandering the woods would be awesome!
I miss them. Poor Allies probably going in a hundred different camera directions though.
I like that idea!
If you do put a camera on them, please use a breakaway harness so they don’t get stuck out in the woods somewhere at the mercy of the wild animals
I live in very rural NW Montana and my puppers are NEVER out of my line of sight if we're outside for a few seconds or working multiple hours and I always have my .44 mag on or very close to me. I'd love to see a camera on Frank but I know they're often allowed to play out of sight regularly. I'd hate for the last thing they see is a moose or a mountain lion coming after Frank :^(

Safety glasses please my husband was a car body man I cannot tell you how many times I took him to the eye doctor to get metal drilled yes they drill out and you get a major headache not to much fun and when he gets his eyes checked they talk about all the scars 😮
Yes, my brothers too
Me too. Had metal drilled out of an eye a number of years ago. Never again.
The amount of UNUSED vertical storage space in your garage is astounding. I know you have 1 million projects, but you DO have a lot of vertical space to put cabinets or shelves! haha 😉
SAFETY GLASSES, SAFETY GLASSES, SAFETY GLASSES, SAFETY GLASSES, SAFETY GLASSES, SAFETY GLASSES, metal fragments in the eyes is no joke!!!!!!!!
Ditto, ditto, ditto!!
For God's sake Trent, not wearing safety glasses is just dumb! And arrogant to think it can't happen to you!
@@joannahatton99 Trent your ego defies logic when you take reckless safety risks I.e. safety glasses!
Where is your eye protection? Please be safe!! You guys after making good progress!!❤
Need ear protection as well.
Absolutely... 👁👁 Protect your eyes!! I know you're careful.
Check yourself from head to toe for any metal shavings that could get tracked in the house.
We let our daughter play in the giant box the swingset came in, and ended up in the Dr's office that Saturday morning. Thank goodness he was able to wash out a small piece of metal that scratched her eye and she just had to wear a patch over her eye for a week or two.
A friend lost an eye when he got a piece of metal in it. And around the same time, my husband's uncle lost an eye when hammering a nail and the head popped off.
@@lindathompson4770
😮 Wow! thanks for talking about the dangers of not wearing eye protection! After Allie went through months of eye issues, and questioning a metal shaving in her eye, I can't understand Trent not wearing eye protection..
Trent….PLEASE…..wear your safety glasses when drilling metal!! You sure wouldn’t want to deal with one of those shavings go into your eye! 😳😵💫😳😵💫
Trent using the drill press with out safety glasses 😢. you know better.
Children are never too young to teach them manners
It’s the first thing to learn, it’s more important a please, thank you and sorry than having a whole vocabulary early.
Suggestion: shelving up high on the back garage wall for camping gear, off season sports gear; lower for extra building materials, will be a space game changer.
I've been saying that for a while for him to put shelving up on the walls. Would give him so much more room in there!
Came here to say this
Grew up in 60's and 70's. Listened to Janis Joplin, Beatles, Steppinwolf, Def Leppard, Lynard Skynard, Journey, Kansas, Ac/DC, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen and many more!
Fell in love with my husband at an Aerosmith Concert!! He's my best friend and we celebrated our 12 years of togetherness yesterday!!!💖🤗💖
My now husband / then friend- wanna be boyfriend 😄 took me to a Loverboy / Joan Jett concert in the 80s
We are in our 70's and enjoy music but It can be too loud over talking...
T&A 2020 !!😅😮
Should have read A&T 2020.❤
Born in the late 60s here! Love the music we all grew up on.
I had that happen to me. I was walking by someone cutting metal and the wind blew a shard into my eye. Holy cow was that ever a mess. Having to get an eye DR take it out was not pleasant at all. Please protect those peepers😊❤
Trent Trent safety glasses safety glasses on the drill come on man😢😢😊😢😢😢
Where are your safety glasses when drilling?
FYI….when you drill holes always step it up.
With a hole that size I would drill 3-4 holes starting with probably 1/4” and stepping up 3-4 times until you reach the size you want.
Try it and you will know why…it’s way easier.
I also am looking forward to Trent’s garage again !!
In about 5 years, when your boys are older, the toy rock crawler could be a great project for Trent and boys to bond over, while Allie relaxes in the hot tub contemplating her next redecorating project.
No eyewear while drilling metal? Take care. Love your house on the mountain and scenes with Leo.
Dude, not wearing eye protection while drilling holes in metal is just dumb! 🚨
Setting a really terrible example. Why?
Yeh. What you just said!!! AND while we're at it... Try NEVER to inhale concrete dust!
@@cboyle707 I cleaned a machine shop daily. After getting metal in my eyes twice I went from safety glasses to full goggles. It was using compressed air to dust off the machines that is really risky. I removed the stuff myself with good light and a tightly rolled up piece of tissue.
Hi Trent and Allie. Do you ever watch The Tool Show on RUclips. Comes out on fridays around 5. Milwaukee pipeline coming out with alot of neat stuff..Your videos help make my week.
@officialTrentAlliex 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You must really think people are stupid enough to fall for: "@officialTrentAlliex" there are a lot of skillful hackers out there. My advice, change your password 🔑 just be careful 😰
Ah Trent, where’s your eye protection!!! Please don’t take such a risk to eye injury, Allie and your babies need you, honey.
I love watching you guys I've been here since you did Van life it's amazing to see what has been done I don't even couldn't even imagine keeping up with all of it I still wonder just asking do you still have the van company it's just amazing I don't know how you all do it but God bless you for the amazing work you do you inspire me so God bless you guys Jenny
I noticed that also
Please where eye protection at all times Trent! You can get eye protection glasses that are so comfortable that you forget you have them on! Safety first Trent, you definitely don’t want a shard in your eye with a baby and you set an example that everyone should follow! Adios…
What happened to Mountain Made vans?
We’re boomers born in 1958, so it’s 70’s music for us! Happy Canada Day from us up here in Canada! ☕️🇨🇦☕️
Same here! The conversation about 70's music was awesome and sobering at the same time! lol
Marshall Tucker, Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Santana, 70's
I was listening to Heavy Metal in the 70's!
Suggestion, enclose the space under the casita's platform into an enclosed storage space for outdoor tools to free up garage space..
I like this idea. I wonder if they've got something like this in their plans...
What a great idea
I was thinking peg board for some of the loose tools.
A casita is a standalone dwelling. What they have is not a casita lol.
@@SagebrushRamblesAnd their firstborn is not a Lion and yet we all accept that he is called Leo.
Can't believe Trent is running the drill press without eye protection.
Not as much of a drama as everyone is making out. It's a slow speed drill press, doesn't really flick debris out as such. yes he should wear them as a matter of habit but it's not that necessary.
"Wish I had half the energy of Leo" says every mom of their kids.
YEP! "Youth is wasted on the Young"
Whatever happened to Mountain Made Vans?
I'm a boomer. As a young teen, in the early 70s, I listened to The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Carol King, Neil Young, James Taylor, The Stones, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt. I was never a fan of disco. 😊
Lol..70 hear and MAJOR disco queen!!!
The Beatles, Abba, the Carpenters, John Denver, Boston, BTO, Kiss, Simon and Garfunkel, Three Dog Night, Neil Diamond, The Guess Who, BeeGees, Elton John, Chicago.. all my favorites; pass on the Disco 😄
Same here! The best years for music!!! And I, too, will pass on the disco.
Pass on disco! Old time Rock and Roll I was born in 1958
ABBA was nowhere as big in the US as it was in the UK and Australia.
They only really had 1 major hit with Dancing Queen.
9 number ones on this side of the pond.
Safety goggles, oh my gosh.
Funny how I started watching this channel as minimalistic Van Lifers...see how fast the crap builds...its truly mind boggling. Great Video guys!
It makes me crazy to see Trent working on anything without eye protection! Can you imagine what it feels like to get one tiny metal shard in your eye in the middle of ALL these projects, while Allie is having a baby, looking after a new born, a toddler, two dogs, and everything else, while Trent has both eyes bandaged. To get a shard out of your eye, the method is a magnet, if taken out I’d a different direction from they way it enters can cost a portion of your sight. Makes me crazy!
I totally agree and have been saying hardhats from day one..safety glasses gloves etc..TRENT!
Maybe it’s the “ mom in me” BUT I just said the SAME Thing!
Trent…PLEASE put on your Safety Glasses….For God’s sake PLEASE!!!🙏🙏🙏👓👓👓👓👓👓👓
One of the Vanwives, I think it was Crystal, got something in her eye while they were doing ceiling work in their cabin. It burned her eye. Luckily it has since healed without lasting effects, but she made a whole video after that about the extreme importance of using PPE...eye protection, hard hats, etc.
@@sunnydaze136 I'm yelling at Trent too! TRENT, get your stuff together and keep your eyesight decent to see those babies of yours!
Looking at his wife, son and one more on the way I often wonder why he takes so many unnecessary dangerous risks. Does he disrespect them and not care about the repercussions should he get injured severely, crippling himself or worse yet leaving his wife and kids behind should he die? I purposely looked for an older woman to marry because of not wanting to leave her stranded on this is should I die before her. I was a twelve years old when my neighbor told me that statistics say men die younger than women because of the nature of their work (physically) and that we are stupid and take too much risks, machoism. So my wife is 2 years older, I married her when I was 19 her 21 back in 1974. September makes 50 years, I am still here, she hasn't killed me yet and we are working on till death do we part. We plan on going together. Grow up Trent so you can grow old with your family, or not. Your choice. jus sayin
Safety glasses all the time when working around metal. I shiver when I don’t see that being done. Be carful.!!!!!!
I heard LOVE SHACK (B-52s 1989) in the grocery store last week. Most of the people were either singing, dancing or both. Great songs never go out of style!
Trent..plz wear Safety Glasses when drilling!!!
Ahhh..Eye protection Trent... I have had a piece of metal shaving in my eye and it is not a fun thing. Also, you should drill a pilot hole first, believe it or not it will speed things up, there will be less surface area for the larger bit to cut through.
I was born in 1964, loved Abba, Bay City Rollers, Rod Stewart, Bee Gees, Sweet, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Celine Dion
Yes!! Still listening to 70's music cause today's music stinks. I remember Bay City Rollers especially at the roller rink
@@chasethecat3839 use to do lots of skate-a-thon, bike, roller all nighters..with great tunes to raise funds..
@officialTrentAlliex ?
Safety glasses please when drilling.
I giggled when you showed how full the garage was. This from a couple who lived in a van that carried everything they owned lol
If AG1 ever went out of business what on earth would you guys do?? Lol Not only just you guys but other RUclipsrs!!! ❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️
More dog food and mattresses 😂
Always good to see a new video.
I graduated in 1974, fav music for the decade: Spinners, Doobie Bros., Moody Blues, Todd Rungren, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Carol King, Neil Diamond, James Taylor,
John Denver, Three Dog Night, Tom Petty & HB’s, Donna Summer, Peter Frampton, Eagles, Little River Band, Bee Gees, Steely Dan,Chris Rea, Cars, Fleetwood Mac, some ABBA, Supertramp, Elton John, Hall & Oats, Boston, Al Stewart………..🧐
What has happened to music indeed!
Where the heck is your safety glasses Trent???? Talking about when you are making the holes.
I’m 72 I love Journey ! Beatles , Beach Boys , and of course Jimmy Hendrix , Janice Joplin etc etc etc 😊I’m a Navy pilot 🧑🏻✈️ veteran 🇺🇸from the 70’s amazing time a amazing music 🇺🇸God Bless America 🇺🇸
70s had the best music!! 💗
Thank you for your service, and happy 4th of July!
Yes. TY for serving
Put some cabinets on the garage walls. You are wasting all that storage space. Plus you will get stuff off the tables and the floor. It drives me crazy to have to step over stuff on the floor plus it is a tripping hazard. You spend more time shuffling stuff around than getting the real work done. I’m done ranting now😝
Nice welds Trent. But eye protection please, metal swarf is no joke
Trent no safety glasses !!!!!!!!!!!when drilling !!!!
Trent!!! Wear your eye protection when you’re working with power tools!!! Safety, Safety, Safety
Gosh, looks like you could use more garage shelving… stack upwards ⬆️ sure helped us with floor space.
Sitting here thinking the same.
There are storage shelves made specifically to hang from the ceiling
Please Trent,,,,, Safety Glasses
I see all that you have now and have to laugh remembering a time when all your worldly possessions fit into a van you both lived in. A testament to how our lives grow through the years. 😄
. . . and . . . the more space you have . . . the more 'junk' you collect
Funny, I had the same thought while watching the decluttering of the garage. Big difference, but also a big change in the family dynamics.
1/4" pilot hole would save burning the big bit plus massively speed up the drilling process...safety glasses are a must speaking from er experience...
You guys are awesome!!! Your motivation and plans are so inspiring! Take care Allie 💖😊
all those moving metal shards! SAFETY GLASSES?
Please put some protection on the welding table before Leo hurts himself on the edge or corner. Pool noodle cut so it will slide on should work, can be put on and off as needed
Leo’s never around, so it doesn’t matter
Trent, how did you ever survive living in a van!!! You sure have accumulated a lot of stuff since then …..not to mention the expense of it all!! Great clean up!! Onward and upward! Leo is the cutest!! Allie, you are the best supporter of Trent! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
Hey Trent - you're not alone, I know all the words to the songs from the 70's. I'm a 70's kid - good stuff!!!
Don’t forget Tina Turner! Saw her in st John’s NL, couldn’t hear clearly for days. Also saw the Beach Boys in a field near Gander. Fun times!
We listened to rock. Disco lasted about 15 minutes…
Leo is the show stealer. Simply the best.
Grew up in the 70's and NO on the disco! Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Rolling Stones, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg, ELO, Bee Gees/not the disco stuff; Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Jethro Tull, the list goes on. NO disco!
Hey, I use to play music and we went to rock concerts religiously but Disco was cool at the Roller Rink and dancing at the club when it was ladies night 😊
@@chasethecat3839 I can see that at the Roller Rink and clubs but not music I preferred to listen to.
pilot holes makes using larger drill bits easier and faster. for your 3/4 holes use a 3/8 bit first and then there will be less stress on not only the larger drill bit but also on your drill press. One thing I've noticed is that Trent you weld hot enough for thick plate contrary to many on RUclips. For all my career I have used a whip technique when MIG welding Great work Trent.
The real question is... why so thick?
@@doctorbills790 Its code for the support of the roof over the porch I think. The weight of the roof isn't the only thing to consider. The snow load requirement comes into play.
@@justanoldman697 But its just vertical load-weight. There is no shear. If that's a code item, its nuts.
Who in their right mind drills a hole that big without going up in sizes first, pilot holes would speed up the process greatly and prolong the life of the drill, but this is Trent!!! ,,
Do you sometimes wonder at the absurdity 🤣of you making TENS of THOUSANDS of DOLLARS 💵💰A MONTH making videos about things such as cleaning your garage?❓💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💵
ABBA was from the 70s. There is a story about ABBA and a road trip and ABbA. They were my Dad’s favorite. Lots of disco. Saturday night fever came out at that time and my best friend and I took disco lessons.
I been watching Trent and Allie since they stop traveling and they decide to began to build their own house. I watch when they began to clear the land in (2020).
Trent, ware your eye protection while using the drill press!!!

I’m 71. I had a penpal in Surry England. We sent each other model car kits. In one letter he mentioned the “Beatles”. I gave what “Beatles” could mean? Some months later I saw them on Ed Sullivan. Very exciting! Who knew?😊 Living in Nashville, mom took us to Graceland in Memphis one summer. I met Vester Presley who was security, ran all over the compound and saw Elvis’ personal jukebox which was out by the covered pool. We never thought to take pictures. This was around 1960…
Trent you should be step drilling. 1/4" inch bit first Then 1/2" inch bit then your large bit.
Trent, please wear safety glasses while drilling the holes. Metal in the eye is not fun

Good point, that in reality Trent should be wearing eye protection while working on his base plates. At least with the surrounding verranda built, winter will be a lot easier for Allie with the baby, Leo and two dogs.
ABBA is definitely the 70s
You know you're old when the Oldies radio stations tart playing songs that were popular when you were in highschool.😮
You also realize how old you are when you graduated in 1962 and that was 62 years ago... Just sayin...
I realized that when I saw a CD with "The Best of the 90's!" in Wal-Mart several years ago
Yep… I hate that my 80s music Is on the oldies station
Or that you hear cover versions of those songs on the radio. Why, just why?
Aunt Jan sure is a blessing to your family. PS, you need shelves on the walls.
I guess it's going to take a hot chip in the eye before Trent wises up and wears the most important PPE: SAFETY GLASSES!!!! Think about it Trent. A metal chip in your eye could disable you for life. That's not being overly dramatic. That is reality. You have an obligation to your wife and child(ren) to provide for them. Provide them with some peace of mind and work safely. BTW- You could drill your holes much faster if you would first drill a pilot hole with a small diameter bit, maybe .25", and then move up to your larger drill size. Try it with your safety glasses on. Both have always worked for this retired machinist. And get on his glutious maxi's Allie.
No Disco! We used to say: "Disco Sucks!" I knew I was old when I walked by a young guy on the sidewalk and I said; "Pull your pants up and put out that cigarette!"
I loved the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin etc. I knew every song and would turn up my stereo and sing and drive!!! Until... about ten years ago I found out that many things were not as they appear.
Do some research and find out from a former insider what rock music is really about.
Look up John Todd aka Lance Collins.
I’m 72 and listened to rock and roll, jazz and folk music!
Disco music did _not_ dominate the 1970s. At best, disco was a notable excursion from there and was quickly forgotten after a few years. There was substantial backlash with widespread disco *haters* for several years! Every week I play ping pong with a group of guys. The stereo always has the same heavy metal 1970s music. My attempts to get more flavor don't work. Do they like that stuff, or are they just used to it?
Allie, when you are doing your stretches, that would be the perfect time for you to practice saying _garage_ ! You are surrounded by guys who have zero problems saying it correctly. In this video, your disability was again apparent mostly by your inclination to smooj it into about 1.5 syllables! For the record, there are two whole syllables in _garage_ .
Born in 63, I started listening to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd ELO, all rock bands at 9 yrs old! Thanks to my sisters!! Still listen to them all every day!
