We call them strangers, as if they don’t know each other. Maybe it was only three minutes, but these men know each other well. This language communicates so much in so little time.
I just shared this on facebook. THIS is what it's all about. Young, old, no matter what color you are or what country you are from. THIS is what brings us all together. The gift of music.
+Piano Around the World As a visual artist I could jump in on someone's mural, but they would probably punch me. I've always envied musicians for the opportunity to do just what you two did! How fantastic to know your instrument/music so well that when something like this happens you don't get flustered, you just go with it! Loved it!!!!
for those who would like to try this out,the left hand goes Cm-Fm7-G7-Cm-(on the last beat, of the 4th bar, play a B major chord on top of a G7 chord) Improvising with your right hand, you could either play the C minor harmonic scale, of the C blues scale. Have fun :)
His approach to chromatic lines are genius it’s absolutely bonkers and his swing is spot on and he adds this little flavor of blues but not to blues because he goes right back to the chromaticism which is cool in every way possible
You guys are playing my favorite jazz on the very street (rue Montorgueil) that I lived in Paris! I've watched this video a countless number of times and it never fails to bring a smile on my face each and every time. Thank you so much!
Oh my god he just runs into you and starts to sync instantly like that? It's like you two have been playing together for decades! What unbelievable synergy that was! One of the best I've ever seen
The way the young guy gives up his seat to the older guy is a great example of respect for your elders. Love this random battles. Strangers making beautiful music together.❤
Its because most people dont learn music like a Language. They learn it by rote, by positions, and its very limiting. Once you realize that music is a Language, you can speak with anyone else who knows Music that way.
It's true.. I wish I could go back in time and totally re-learn everything like this. Slowly trying to implement some improv training but it's so hard once you get accustomed to everything written on paper for you.
hey can you tell me how to learn to improvise ? i stopped playing piano a while ago cuz i didn't line playing after notes that much. are there some "jazztricks" to learn or do i just have to try ?
Not sure if you're asking me or not, but honestly it just takes doing it! That's the cool/awful/frustrating thing about it 😂 I used to have a teacher who would just play bass chord progressions sort of like in the video, and I would have to improv a treble melody. I find it so hard though.. but the only way to get better is practice.
Allan Googe Please do! This has a very Tom Waits-Esque kinda feel to it, but traditional jazz can be really flooring. As far as jazz piano, check out Bill Evans, he's a fantastic jazz pianist and brings me to tears all the time. Just an incredible soul and brilliant improviser, some of his best work is honestly just him sitting playing solo on his piano.
Oh my god I can't help but to smile the whole way through listening to this and watching them play. Loooooove Jazz, the duet was like icing on a cake for me.
It's the middle of 2018 and I'm still enjoying it so much ! This makes me so happy, it feels like they were connected, playing good music on the piano together, without wondering who the person is, just enjoying life
Nadim Khan for an Ab7 add 13 chord, you need to add the F for that extra dimension and feel to the chord. So the chord is built up as follows: #F C F or #F Bb C F for your left hand, you can simply play Ab in your left.
The most beautiful thing of playing an instrument really is that you first can express yourself in a way you can't otherwise, and you can speak this very understandable fun language with strangers.
seems to be the world we live today. people have no feeling. self absorbent, lovers of themselves. music used to bring humanity together, now it seems to be some lost past time. i feel you on your comment!
its Aria well some people have a tight schedule and they’re rushing. I’ll love to sit down and enjoy something like this but sometimes time doesn’t allow. Shame
Oh how simple and lovely life was 5 years ago. Hope we don't take these moments and being in an environment open with love and friendship for granted ever again.
Music for the win! Bringing people together in such an awesome way. Perhaps one of the last hopes we have at unity as citizens of earth. Keep on playing folks. Spread some love and peace.
Sounds like an improv of 'just the two of us'. That two dudes can meet over a piano and play this sort of music is truly outstanding and thrilling. Fuck all those passing by with their busy busy lives. Their loss. RobertE.

Mannnn, it's stuff like this that makes me love people. Call me an optimist, but people are just so wonderful. For every bad we may do, there's just so, so much more good. So colorful and vibrant -- I just love it!
The emotion, the spontaneity, the look of pure joy on your faces... I couldn't stop myself from smiling ear to ear throughout the whole video. Music is truly a beautiful language.
This just shows that the blues and jazz can bring us all together, music sets us free. And I want to bring the world together and do the best that I can.
+Ingvar Baranin In jazz and blues piano you learn everything in chords and patterns, so improv becomes significantly easier! I was trained as a classical pianist for 11 years and I'm currently 3 years into learning jazz and blues. You instead need to practice reading instead focusing on notes, so you could write a song using G7, Cm7, stuff like that, then improv your right hand to whatever notes are in those chords. Hope this helped!
Thanks for watching! Thanks for subscribing! Hope to see you again!
What's the chord progression?
Do you have a go fund me
Paris is magical
i made a piano improvvisation on my channel , visit my chanell if you are interested , Bye
It was so good!
The first guy was setting the mood the second told a story !
this is how jazz should be. absolutely beautiful!
I real nice musical conversation
That’s such a good way of putting it
Exactly this bit without one there wouldn't of been the other. Brilliantly jammed together
We can hear that the first story is calmer while the second one has some spice in it!
1:50 - NICE timing from that car.
Lol yeah!
hahah i thought it was the piano!!
bensons999 hahaha indeed..proper riser
bensons999 😂😂😂😂 OMG you made my day
Reving
We call them strangers, as if they don’t know each other.
Maybe it was only three minutes, but these men know each other well.
This language communicates so much in so little time.
Fun fact: The guy joining in composed the theme music to the Danish tv-series The Killing as well as the American remake
Wow I love that show! Thanks for the fact :)
Frans Bak ?
hot dayum that was a fun fact indeed !
You can see 'The Killing' on his jacket!
whats this kind of jazz called? how can i find mroe of this type of sonoroty?
I just shared this on facebook. THIS is what it's all about. Young, old, no matter what color you are or what country you are from. THIS is what brings us all together. The gift of music.
+MarkThomasMusic Yes! It is the language of the universe
+Carol Taylor haha interesting. yes this is one of my favorite thigns to do is jam with complete strangers.
But they're both white :/
Music is the common language of all mankind !
I found out the name of this guy is Frans Bak. He is a film composer from Denmark.
Amazing
+Piano Around the World Thanks for the follow up :)
+Piano Around the World Thanks for letting me witness something so awesome.
Jai Denmark!
+Marcus Kellermann what???
That moments makes our life brighter!
I WATCH UR VIDEOS
"Can I join in?"
"Yeah!"
"...And that is how I met your mother"
lol
"...before she.... transitioned.." 2019 update*
Father* :D
Kid: thats swee.. Hol up
The untold story
Bloody brilliant. And the guy that joined in is truly a musical gentleman.
Cheers.
Anaximander of Apollonia „Musical gentleman“. What a proper expression
for those who would like to try this out,the left hand goes
Cm-Fm7-G7-Cm-(on the last beat, of the 4th bar, play a B major chord on top of a G7 chord)
Improvising with your right hand, you could either play the C minor harmonic scale, of the C blues scale. Have fun :)
thank you ♥
+Derek Serrano thats actually wrong... Listen harder
Here: Cm - Eb13 - D7 OR Ab13 -G13(b13)
Thats the chord progression used
And the last chord that finishes the song is Cm(M9)
Sorry guys my original progression is wrong. Check out the new one I posted
Thanks :D
If you sit on the street for enough time something awesome will happen.
+kilésengati very true!
spontaneous is Magic
Kilesengati. Yeah...Like the police will book me for vagrancy.
Ask a homeless guy. I'm not sure if he agrees . . .
RAPE
Joke. Calm down sensitive
Love the way the car engine revs at just the right moment too at 1:52 brings a new meaning to street music. Well played guys. Awesome
1:39 is what brings me back to this video. Crazy how their timing matches up
jstdun its staged i gues
+bl4ckmedia Might be but I wouldnt take it past piano professionals to have that inherent "feeling" for collaborating on music
Nah that doesn't mean it's staged. Just two good musicians reacting and listening to each other.
not at all, lmfao its not tough for 2 talented paino players to match up simple jazz chords
They just matched beats per minute which doesn't mean it's staged it just is beautiful
I come here every few months to listen to this spontaneous masterpiece
It's like he the elderly man is playing the piano with his past self.
your words made me say awwwwwwww!!!
+조현지 kamsahamnida 고맙습니다~~~~ :)
Your awwww made me go awwwwwwww
That's an amazing point of view...
Lol, the dude isn't exactly "elderly". He looks maybe 50's, 60's. Not exactly decrepit ready to die lol
I just can't get enough of the 1:40 - 1:50 part, it's just so perfect and the fact that all of this was an improv just blows my mind every time
they understand each other and it seems like most people around don't understand what's going on!
This gave me goosebumps!! Music is the most beautiful thing ever, can't stop smiling while watching this
Awesome! I'm glad you like it. WHat other video do you like?
All of them, specially those where you play with other people
I feel the same, Luis! I loooove music.
Music is the only language on planet earth that everyone can understand without study of it
Toni martin
Jazzy improvisation are the best music for me, people just share their hobbies around the piano for a short moment, that sounds so great dude!
Can you say to me thesong name please?
@@pinboll29 It's improv man! He put some sheet music in the description, but aside from the progression, they are improvising over the changes :)
"Can i join in?" word's spoken before a classic was born.
This is one of the best duets I've ever heard
one of my faves
Wow… this one is absolutely my favourite
Those left hand licks of Frank's in the second half. The accents!
SO awesome. Put a smile on my face :)
TedescoCreations me too : )
Now imagine if a Sax player showed up......then a guitarist......a trumpet player......my mind would melt.
WHEN I SEE THIS THEN MY FAITH IN HUMANITY IS RESTORED !!!!
+Robert Mueller the way you put it is not trustable....
+Martin Tesař hahaha
And your faith being restored matters why?
That's how streets are meant to be in a real city, no cars, no pollution, just people walking and cycling, interacting, enjoying.
God, random ass jam sessions are probably the best things ever. Kudos to these guys.
That dude knows his stuff. Perfect pitch, he didn't ask for the key and he picked up the base with barely a stutter
Everytime i see videos of this guy, i always have to smile :D
Yeah me to :)
His approach to chromatic lines are genius it’s absolutely bonkers and his swing is spot on and he adds this little flavor of blues but not to blues because he goes right back to the chromaticism which is cool in every way possible

Goose bumps.
THIS is what life is about man. Amazing experiences an amazing people. Love it.
that was probably the best moment of this old mans music duet career
That was one of the best improvs ive ever seen and i love my improvs!!!!!
How can people just pass by and not stop to enjoy this!!! I would be glued to the piano!!!
I love this style of jazz. Does anyone know where can i get something similar to this?
Anytime you hear a jazz solo, it's improvisation.
Eugene Grewing so this isn't a specific piece "borrowed" from somewhere?
Sangrealle Nope.
Damn!
Rorro Sanchez It's a gypsy jazz version of round midnight.
Oh my god he just runs into you and starts to sync instantly like that? It's like you two have been playing together for decades! What unbelievable synergy that was! One of the best I've ever seen
this should go viral
Wow, I especially love the beginning of Bak's improvisation. Amazing.
1:44 - 1:51 MADE MY HEAD EXPLODE. THAT WAS INSANE
omg saaaame this was the best part
The way the young guy gives up his seat to the older guy is a great example of respect for your elders.
Love this random battles. Strangers making beautiful music together.❤
This is hands down the best piano jam ever on youtube! Amazing pianists!
+Ryan James Baliza i agree. I think it should have so many more views.
Life is amazing! And all of those folks walking by don't know that something truly special is happening. A lesson here.
These kids of videos are the best! Genuine on-the-spot improvisation must be so fun!
Love love love this!! Been playing for ten years but could never do improv like this... soooo cool
Its because most people dont learn music like a Language. They learn it by rote, by positions, and its very limiting. Once you realize that music is a Language, you can speak with anyone else who knows Music that way.

i was asking both :D yeah that's the problem....just try....i will and i'm probably still trying in 3 years. thanks fo your comment though :D
YOU GOTTA FRIEND IN ME
That's a gentleman, he knew exactly when to flourish, how much, and when to fall back into the background. A dream jam partner.
I'm not much of a jazz lover but hey I'm gonna look into it after that. That was cool guys. !!!!!!!
Jazz is awesome bro!
Maybe you should start by Charles Mingus, you'll be surprised
louis armstrong is the guy to listen to if you want jazz
I concur
Allan Googe Please do! This has a very Tom Waits-Esque kinda feel to it, but traditional jazz can be really flooring. I love watching these kinda videos
wow I love how happy his face was when the man asked to join.. nothing can bring us together better than good music
Love this. This is how the world should be, in every way.
People filling in each other.
Why do I have tears in my eyes? I love people making music together, for music's sake.
This is amazing I found myself smiling after the man said can I join in until the end of the video ! Love it truly amazing
I always come back to this gem
now close your eyes, imagine you're in a bar/restaurant with dark interior, drinking red wine, in 1930s, New York City....
Cheesy G wouldnt be able to afford that shit during the great depression
Thanks for the feeling 😅 I wanna live in the 19th or far future
James Kan somebody would. Not you, but somebody
Cheesy G plus depends that year in the 1930 you'll cuz prohibition would still going...might be coming to a close but still.
I would prefer mid 20's. The age of jazz, after the recovery of countries from ww1 and before the great depression
Two strangers creating such beauty. THIS is how the world can be healed. The one commonly shared language of music. So inspiring.
Libertié, egalité, fraternité! The national motto of France should be adopted by the whole world.
The chord changes are Cmin, Ddiminished, Fminor7, and G7. The notes to play over this are C,D, Eb, F,F#, G,Ab and B in case anyone was wondering
FindStephen harmonic minor scale
It's the middle of 2018 and I'm still enjoying it so much !
This makes me so happy, it feels like they were connected, playing good music on the piano together, without wondering who the person is, just enjoying life
haha im glad you like it
These kind of people make form this world a better place! I love it
Frans Bak's ear for a sweet melody is amazing.
People wondering about the chords: Cm(7) - EbMaj7 add 13 - Ab7 add13 - G5+b9. There you go. You can solo over Cm harmonic scale
what do you mean by add 13-Ab7
Nadim Khan for an Ab7 add 13 chord, you need to add the F for that extra dimension and feel to the chord. So the chord is built up as follows: #F C F or #F Bb C F for your left hand, you can simply play Ab in your left.
Pieter Overeem it sounds better with Eb7 instead of EbMaj7 imo
I see some fellow music nerds here~
To me it sounds more like a diminished scale but I'm no expert
The most beautiful thing of playing an instrument really is that you first can express yourself in a way you can't otherwise, and you can speak this very understandable fun language with strangers.
I mean look how happy they are afterwards! haha
How, just, how can people walk by without even caring? Why are there some much people without feeling?
seems to be the world we live today. people have no feeling. self absorbent, lovers of themselves. music used to bring humanity together, now it seems to be some lost past time. i feel you on your comment!
I'ts because people have stuff to do. Most don't have free time, some are just having a conversation with someone else.
"stuff to do" lol, it´s not like those 2 minutes of your boring life can´t be spent on something brilliant like this
its Aria well some people have a tight schedule and they’re rushing. I’ll love to sit down and enjoy something like this but sometimes time doesn’t allow. Shame
You right I thought there would be much more people listening to this beaut improv
One of the most wholesome videos on RUclips

+ju judd yay!!
This was a real delight, nicely done gents.
1:48 the car accelerating goes really well at this point
Oh how simple and lovely life was 5 years ago. Hope we don't take these moments and being in an environment open with love and friendship for granted ever again.
this should be recorded so I can listen to it everyday...
One of the most wholesome videos on the internet.
that switch though 😱
Music for the win! Bringing people together in such an awesome way. Perhaps one of the last hopes we have at unity as citizens of earth. Keep on playing folks. Spread some love and peace.
Não canso de assitir
This made me cry. It spoke to my soul man 🤍
Sounds like an improv of 'just the two of us'.
That two dudes can meet over a piano and play this sort of music is truly outstanding and thrilling.
Fuck all those passing by with their busy busy lives. Their loss.
RobertE.
Like EVERY single comment on this video. The energy you feel coming from this video and the people supporting is marvellous
watching this after a rough day will definitely gives you positive vibes
hey i worked our the chords, but the notes he plays makes it unique, so the first chord is (d,f#,c) for four beats. then (d,f,g,b) for 2 beats, (d,f,g,d) for two. then (g,c,eflat) for six beats, then (bflat, eflat,g) for two. then (gflat, bflat,c,f) for four, then (gflat, bflat,c,eflat) for two and finnally (f,g,a,b,e) for two. thats the intro. then he just changes between (c,eflat,g) for eiht bars, and (d,gflat,c) for eigt bars. .
James Anderson lol noice!
Absolute pitch right ?
Bebeto Tandane Jr. yes, for the right hand.
Bebeto, us geeenyisses call it “perfect pitch”
People walking past that have no idea how amazing this is and how much music can bring people together (OK, some do - obviously). Very well done sir!
I love spontaneous duet, makes me think about how I'm just a worthless creature
Why? You are not worthless. You are worthy! These things happen all the time. You must be open to these experiences. The world is an incredible place.
Piano Around the World haha thanks, made my day^^
Lol that took a depressing turn
Mannnn, it's stuff like this that makes me love people. Call me an optimist, but people are just so wonderful. For every bad we may do, there's just so, so much more good. So colorful and vibrant -- I just love it!
does someone knows what kind of jazz this is? i really enjoyed it :)
Could watch this ALL DAY.
Thanks Nelson!!
Wow! I loved how that guy joined in. Beautiful! Melody(that is my name if you were wondering lol) :)
The emotion, the spontaneity, the look of pure joy on your faces... I couldn't stop myself from smiling ear to ear throughout the whole video. Music is truly a beautiful language.
brilliant . great video to watch as always 👍
I watch this video a few times every year and each time it fills me with a crazy amount of joy. Thanks so much :) Happy new year everyone.
Awesome
Still many years later broo....... its just breathtaking how 2 random people met at the streets and feel the music so perfect!!
This was brilliant!
This just shows that the blues and jazz can bring us all together, music sets us free. And I want to bring the world together and do the best that I can.
How do you do this!? I've been casually been playing piano for a good 9 years now and I still can't wrap my head around improvisation..
+Ingvar Baranin practice
feeling
+Ingvar Baranin from the heart, not from the head. Journey, not a destination.
Gillian Gross Thank you! This is the first informative reply so far.
I like the "Go!" He really took that to heart and went.
if you or anyone could give the chord progression of this that would be so sweet. I really want to be able to do this. Beautiful.
Noob Burg It’s been a while, so you might have gotten it already, but there’s a link to his site where you can get the sheet music.
Is it all right if I cried of joy. This is just beautiful and pure....
Brilliant...
