BeLift pointed out what PLAGIARISM is NOT. It is funny how the YG response saying “not same” is actually supporting BeLift’s point, but everyone missed that.
Is it just me or are trying to have a rational logical conversations in kpop always this much hard work?

there is no original concept in pop music, not only kpop, lets be honest
School uniform, hanbok, teen wear, hairstyles...etc....basically youth concept is nothing new...SNSD, AOA, Sistar up to this time... has used that concept

I'm not familiar with korean laws in terms of plagiarizing. But as for international law it provides that intellectual property must be copyrighted or the owner must prove that she is indeed the original creator. How will MHJ win this when she just copied as well? Moreso, i don't think there is a copyright to own a trend or choreography as it evolves. If she used hiphop concept in kpop, then she can own it and its just for her to use? I think these are just petty excuses to sway the people from her real intention. Thanks for clearing out about the hairstyle and magazine shoots for ELLE where HYBE is not even involved in the concept.
The thing with MHJ is she joined HYBE without the intention of being a part of their work family. She look at all of the sublabels as her competitor. Isnt it common for one agency to copy each other concepts for their idols? The other companies SM, YG & JYP...you can find a lot of concept being copied by the younger gen like EXO with NCT, Twice with NMixx.. Heck, when Sheesh by BabyMonster dropped I thought it was BlackPink. 😅
They said that MHJ is a genius creator and that if HYBE will handle NJ, it will not be as creative. Nope, she is good in situational marketing and promotion. You cannot call copying as "creativity". If you are a trendsetter, then why are you afraid of being copied? Why not let them copy? You wont stick to the same concept anyway. MHJ shud learn not to compare work with others, as you should only compete with your current achievements. It's an Asian philosophy...if you compare with others and they are more better, you will feel inferior. On the other hand, if you are better than them, you will become arrogant (this is the path MHJ chosen as she is narcissistic. If she thinks that she's better than HYBE, then why can't SM break through the global market during her time there? Until now they were asking what made BTS famous? BigHit back then was not afraid of being copied and in fact they encouraged other companies to follow what they did for the globalization of kpop. They even shared that it's because they gave their artist freedom to create, produce and write their own music (which unfortunately a copycat like MHJ cant compete with so she just runs after HYBE's money).

MHJ is using the plagiarism as a pretext to initiate the PR campaign against HYBE. Yes the real intention is to capture ADOR and its one product. As a former director at SM Entertainment during the years BTS was coming up, MHJ probably was not happy with its growing success. I’ve always wondered if the fandom wars were initiated by the agencies themselves. Fans are highly suggestible. That’s why politics are so screwed up.

    • @anistardi

"We are not saying you copied," however, get back to the drawing board and look at all this information: then get back to us.
It was paramount that BE:LIFT came out and spoke about the issue, because this issue wasn't just about the mentioned group, it was an attack on the entire BE:LIFT. Obviously, they can't bring a whole case to include everyone else signed under BE:LIFT. Now Mhj still has a headache to deal with. She thought that she is just going to spew some crap about people without being asked to answer to it. The issue here isn't whether she losses or wins, it is to show her that you can't just speak and think that things will be thrown under the rag. It is not twitter where rampant fans just say anything, she is a CEO who actually took stuff from Twitter and thought that she can make a case out of it.
By the way, I am still waiting for to speak about the album that was replicated but said nothing, yet she is talking about dance moves, hair, hanbok(Even BTS wore those Hanbok in the early years - Pink, blue, grey etc). Ouch then to have them point to each other in blame is so hilarious. I’ll add I’m a KPOP fan for over a decade and what I do love are all of the incredible talented performers here. However, originality is not a strong point. I’m frequently wishing and hoping there were more references to Korean Culture in KPOP. I’m American so I’m already filled up with the western culture, but I never dreamed it would be Korean rap that led me into liking rap music.

*Deleted last reply* Granted, I have had my fill of what constitutes original Western American music and do not misunderstand this unless it's Eminem, P!nk, Alice Cooper there is a long list of preference there and I detest when the standard is to listen to only American music and accept some ding a ling known as Jellyroll as something profound. No offense to country musicians ;but no. The point is that one can see striking similarities in Kpop and American music. However, I think Suga did a variation of one of his own songs using traditional Korean instruments and was fantastic! GDragon did one and mixed with the electronics. T.O.P.: Doom Da Da are examples of using traditional Korean music mixed with electronic Super Junior, along with PSY, tapped into other styles but maintained that Korean culture. Did RM not introduce us to the independent artists in S.Korea? Likewise, the HU maintained their cultural identity through Mongolian Folk Metal and gave a shout out to Metallica and duet with Izzy Hale. There is originality. American music copies off each other and whatever. Saying New Jeans is ; how?

    • @NomadicKitty
      @NomadicKitty 3 месяца назад +4

@notlonely.everybodyisanexpert kpop isn't just the musical similarities but it's also the styling and the lingo used in kpop! Rap itself is American invention. Jazz, disco, r and b, soul. These are American inventions. The music industry itself is American.
Bang pd, jyp and other creators of labels spent time in America learning the business and took what they learned to SK music scene. The early kpop was a direct copy of westernized music. You cannot remove the west from kpop.. Kpop is its own thing but it is NOT mainstream here. BTS blew kpop up here. But yes I wish kpop was more traditionally korean and less western lite. But kpop is intertwined with us. I get it. No shade. The goal is to be global. Especially with social media. But the carribean, latin or afro beats or sound. None of that is korean either. It is what it is but that's one reason kpop isn't taken seriously in the west. A lot of the hip hop community don't see suga as like a real MC. KPOP fans do but in American hip hop circles? Ehhh....Drake and Kendrick Lamar are the standard. Jay-z etc. America itself has a hard time accepting foreigners in the industry. Especially men!!! There is cultural difference In how korean idols move and operate vs American ones. Visually and racially it's hard for audiences to fully accept here. BTS truly did the unimaginable. But faced a lot of racism and hate here. People called them effeminate and strange. Unattractive. Too korean. Niche. Weird. Sad really.

The hate is now directed at BELIET and it’s Groups. I am an older Engene and have been with Enhypen and BELIFT from the beginning. Now that BELIFT is suing MHJ and Adore, there are articles and SM posts trying to drag the fandom and Enhypen into this mess. Most of us don’t care about MHJ or New Jeans. We are too busy supporting Enhypen’s latest album, Jay’s collaboration with the Japanese rock band Glay and getting ready for the July comeback. Some Engenes have criticized BELIFT in the past over issues related to the boys safety, making sure the boys are not overworked and negative hate SM posts directed at Enhypen. What is being said about BELFT as it relates to negative backlash from Engenes because of New Jeans and MHJ does not ring true to me. From my point of view I am glad that BELIET is finally speaking out and suing over how their artists are being mistreated. They usually don’t do this enough.I am also very tired of New Jeans fandom and MHJ dragging other fandoms and groups into her fight with HYBE.I can’t wait until she is gone. Her actions and that of the Bunnies Fandom have unfortunately turned me against New Jeans

I think Kpop in general all groups boy and girl dances have similarities. I think there are just moves that are standard and are used in everyone’s dances. If MHJ wants to complain about the Hanbok then didn’t she copy BTS? Cause they did that concept back in 2022-23. She really is mental. Just want all of this to go away. Also, ❤ ❤ your breakdown explanation of the nuances within this lawsuit, as the public doesn't really understand everything about the Korean history of and the basics of the Korean entertainment business culture of Hybe and all other companies!!!! I can't wait for BeLifts documentary to air with real regular employees talking about how MHJ's plagiarism accusations have hurt them and their company's viability!!!!! All of the employees did a wonderful job in explaining how their work was not plagiarized, from hairstyles to magazine ad clothing choice (picked by the magazines, not the company) in spreads. Especially the hanbocks, with photo stills predating NJ of idol groups wearing hanbocks. 😅😂 But especially the choreographer, who showed by MHJ's own logic, NJ "plagiarized" Bollywood dance moves and how illet's differed and made it more of a Kpop move! He also explained that a specific dance move MHJ claims illet stole is a basic transition/connection move has been used by every idol group since forever.
Set the damages at $10 million, to include potential future revenues lost. That way, if the judge whittles it down, it will at least be over the $1 million needed to fire MHJ under her Hybe/Ador contract!!
Overall, this makes MHJ look like an idiot for even making these plagiarism accusations!!! 😅😂 🤣

This whole think on plagiarizing hair, clothes, makeup, dances or concepts is ridiculous, everything eventually gets reused, clothes in fashion in the past eventually comes back in style years later, there is only so much you can do with clothes, hair, makeup etc..... now when it comes to music, that's different, you can plagiarize more with same phrasing of chorus or same key cords things like that so where MHJ comes of with copying her, guess it's different, she can copy off other international artist, but if your another kpop group you can't copy her copying😂
Hope Belift is successful in their case, getting MHJ out will make everyone at HYBE more comfortable with the black cloud out of the building. No matter what happens, we at least know the there's only about a year left on MHJ contract so the evil will eventually be expelled

Seeing the video, my first reaction was that it was a terrible move. But from their perspective, they couldn’t just allow MHJ to keep the rumors going about plagiarism when they realized that she would keep bringing it up just to bring it up so they need something to defend themselves. Personally I would’ve tried stopping this video because fans would take it the wrong way, but why can’t they speak up?
In their minds, I am assuming they are fed up with all of these accusations. Some of them are truly extremes like that McDonald’s Choreo. I would be annoyed too. Would the choreographer have to study NJ’s to make sure nothing is the same so MHJ doesn’t complain?
The thing is there are similarities. They wanted a similar vibe, cute concepts, targeting teens etc. but if we compare Illit to NJ’s releases, and at NJ’s whole portfolio, they are different. Illit cannot replace NJ’s. Fueling it only strengthen online hate.

Like having ALL members debut with long lushes hair and then netizens realizing “oh this group reminds me of someone, oh yeahhh Newjeans!” It just makes it worse. I have never been this invested in a kpop scandal that involved a group I didn't like. I find the legal, financial, social, and artistic sides of this so interesting.
Also, having known from the first debut announcement that I wouldn't stan this group because something was "off" with them, it's so affirming to see this group be at the eye of the storm. No, I'm not saying I'm glad, just vindicated. Basically, "I told you so". The debut of minors and acting like an obviously retro concept was "so original" rubbed me the wrong way from the start. You reap what you sew, MHJ.

This is just a recycled formula and the bunnies are having a hard time with that idea because Min told them different.

Her attitude of "owning" and "creating" these concepts, dance styles, and fashion trends has created artists and fans with the very same attitude.
The whole NJ circle is grossly bloated with entitlement from blessings they didn't earn. Take the brand deals as example. If I remember correctly, they got those big fashion brand endorsements pre-debut or soon after debut as rookies. Normally, that is something idols earn after years of hard work, IF they reach that milestone at all. But now the industry revolves around praising rookies for just existing, which is creating these entitled rookies (see also: 50 50). So NJ gets worshipped pre-debut and grow to expect that everyone just bow down to them, their demands, and their recycled concepts.

She would work with a team of people. Wardrobe, hair, makeup. Draw up ideas and present them to the label and the artist for mv and appearances etc. It's a basic job in the industry and an independent contractor kinda position. Music is decided by the label and the artist. Concepts is a kpop thing with too much emphasis and importance. Let the artist talent shine. Or lack of. Music and choreo sells records. Especially the Bubblegum scene on the beach where the bubblegum she puts toward her mouth is clearly in the shape of a male body part. I am not a prude, but to me the biggest thing I do not like about the New Jeans concept is that they pretend they are so sweet and innocent while sneaking in adult themed subliminal things. Plus the girls truly seem to have been handed a silver platter with access to Hybe's best artists/creators work, yet they act as if it's their talents alone that got them this huge success. I'd prefer to follow and fan a group that has impressive individual talents and work ethics. I respect groups that properly acknowledge when others talents/funds assist them to having hits.

I am not a stan of either of these groups just a lover of kpop and an unbiased observer. This is a battle of the egos but as a woman & a mother I want the men involved in this to know that you CANNOT beat a manipulative person with words. Rather than trying to argue with her legally or in anyway what you need to do is stand on your talent!! That’s all! Draw the focus back to illit’s talent and the Be:lift’s creative talent. Start posting videos of the girls doing things in a unique way that is far removed from the industry standard and focus on cementing their brand instead of arguing over what he said she said. Someone with a big ego is willing to sink the whole ship before they ever take responsibility for anything they did. They can easily ruin all of kpop in order to keep their ego intact, don’t give them that ammunition. Focus on the girls next come back and make sure it has everyone gagged so that it cements illit’s brand not as a new jeans competitor but sets them in their own lane. No amount of court or talking will win against Min hee jin because she stands on her talent (plagiarised or not she made new jeans the it girls). Stand on your talent Be:lift and stop trying to nurse bruised egos at the cost of these young girls dreams. So what she said you copied her homework, ace the next test and show it to yourselves and everyone else that you didn’t copy her homework. Learn from western artists, Beyoncé doesn’t address any plagiarism she just makes sure the next album is worth talking about for the right reason, Arianna Grande didn’t respond to the media calling her names, she put it all in her art and brought the focus back to her art, Beyoncé did the same thing with lemonade, she put it all into her art so that the focus is on her art not the rumours. Leverage your art that’s the only way to shut anyone up.

Does plagiarism happen? Sure it does, but not all accusations are true and it's sad that majority of entertainment fans can't spot false claims like MHJ's. Many just ride the bandwagon thinking it's the best way to show support for artists they admire, without considering its consequences. The idea of claiming copyright of a single dance move is as ridiculous as the idea of claiming copyright on a word. The creativity is not in any individual move, it's in how they're put together and expressed.
Love to see them reaching like this and I hope their whole house of cards comes tumbling down soon.
