I attended the game. It was a bitterly cold Sunday. I'm a Liverpool supporter. Great days, great memories. Thankfully, our great days are back. Chelsea have had many good ones in the interim.
Thanks for this upload Although I am a chelsea fan and we lost this game This was the first time I had seen them on tv as back then you was lucky if you saw your team once or twice a year on TV Fond memories Thanks for the up...
Also remember watching this on The Big Match, as a young Liverpool fan. Remember Jimmy Greaves' comments at half time...''Liverpool go a goal up and they don't deserve it'
You're right that there was a blackout in the first half of that season as the clubs and TV companies couldn't agree a deal. But this wasn't the first live game. Liverpool's match at Watford 2 weeks before was also shown and a quick search suggests Charlton v West Ham in the FA Cup was shown the week before that as the first live game of the season.
Saw the goals from this before but never saw this game live up in Scotland at the time remember checking the teletext just to see what the score was for this game lol
Dave Waller Yip saw a lot of classic games on teletext back then lol Never got much games and used to listen to the radio and even go down the pub just to watch the games live facebook.com/video.php?v=654250257968458&set=vb.100001504693398&type=3&theater
Was at that game. Liverpool supporter at the Shed End. Living in London at the time, mate was a Chelsea supporter, insisted we go there. Unbelievably stupid thing to do. Let's just say it wasn't one of the best decisions i ever made.
@@samcurtisrobinson Yep, couldn't keep the joy from erupting when Liverpool scored the first goal. My saving grace was that being crammed in together on the terrace made it impossible for the knob heads to really swing a leg or a punch properly. I ducked, dived and disappeared down out of the line of sight and their inherent short attention spans meant I was safe after about a minute. It was a dodgy, painful, minute though.
Richard Taylor That's because they were all working class locals who could afford to go, not day trippers with selfie sticks paying £50-60 for the privalige.
@@davidmiles2636 These people who you think was priced out. Seemed to have alot of money for lots of other things. All seater grounds made it different. I know loads who went 80s dropped out 90s. But they spent loads on other things. 33k gate was 27k Chelsea who packed the stand where the camera's was. When the old West Stand was 2/3 empty it really was not that loud. Loads didnt go when it was cheap. Was 12k Leicester at home not long after that Liverpool game. 17k Qpr. 16k Oxford. Yet people who never went 80s years later was spending fortunes on lots of things
This seems a strange argument. If tickets were £5 in 1986 and £50-60 now there are obviously going to be people who can't afford to go regularly now. Those people will have £5 a week (plus inflation) they would have paid to spend on other things but that doesn't mean they can afford current ticket prices.
That end was huge. It was full for the title decider at the end of that season, but this cup game was live on TV on a Sunday which made a big difference to attendances at that time.
Dave Waller I thought that myself. When they won the league there at the end of this season it was absolutely packed. I always liked the old north stand at Chelsea because you didn't feel squashed and uncomfortable even when it was full
paul smith thanks I didn't know that. I presumed it was down to Ken bates considering what he did with the electric fence thing!! I think QPR were the only other team in london along with arsenal and West Ham to not install fences and you're right about not stopping fans if they were set on getting on the pitch!!
These where hit and miss times. Fuck all money anyway and a live Sunday game.......rare as hen's teeth. Liverpool didn't travel this day for the same reason you didn't fill your own sections.🤷🏼♂️

If I recall, this was the first live match of the season. There'd been a blackout on live football during the 85/86 season up until then.

At first I was surprised to see the fans fenced in the east stand but then this was ken bates in the 80's

speadie was a nasty sod, but a very good player his goals to games ratio at Liverpool was very good to be fair

@@gregbradley7482 haha ouch. Even to this day you can’t sit in with the oppo fans and celebrate a goal!
Why such a small away support?
must say chelsea fans were loud as hell in the 80s I remember watching this on a Sunday afternoon chelsea did not stop singing

@@davidmiles2636 yes to right its shamefull now they have complete contempt for the working class like the evil government and most goverments

Don't suppose you have footage of the 6th round match at Watford (2-1 Reds)?
only the goals: ruclips.net/video/qNvGD-aorVc/видео.html
Thanks Dave - have never seen those goals until now.
Why were Chelsea down to 10 men?
2 injuries when there was only 1 sub allowed.
@@DaveWallerLFC Thanks
WHY DID CHELSEA NOT PUT ON A SUBSTITUTE?8 MINUTES?LOST A MAN? JUST THINK! THAT BABY GIRL, CHELSEA! SHE WILL BE THIRTY YEARS OLD NOW!
they did bring on a sub, but they had 2 injuries.
Why is half of the Liverpool end empty??
