  • Here's another way to integrate better breathing into your stroke.
This sequence has the swimmer using a basic streamline position, to 'set up' for a breath.
Breath the same side of the lead arm.
    It goes...
Streamline L (hold) - Stroke and Breath L - Streamline R (hold) Stroke and Breath R
Swimmers can practice single cycles, but move up to 25m.
    eg
    25m sequence
25m Whole stroke freestyle, practice bilateral breathing every 3
    25m sequence
    25m Whole stroke freestyle
The outcomes we want are for the swimmer to 'go for the breath'
    Early head turn
    Quick breath
Head level - water splitting the face
Keep lead arm stable and anchored, when the swimmer returns after breathing
When streamlined, pause and check - head, lead arm, rotation are in in position to maintain balance and stability.
When going back to swim whole stroke free-style REMEMBER the stroke cycle is continuous, at the back and never pause's or stops, as we are doing here in the drill.
This is a great way to help beginner swimmers, swim their first 25-50m.
Use it to improve breathing on your 'weaker side'
Great for honing in on, early head turn, quick breath.
Have fun and let us know how you go?
