    My uncle taught me the same technique for packing bearings over 50 years ago. I've used it on everything from farm tractors to motorcycle I've ridden to championships. Since they bought a hub with pre-installed bearing races, they didn't show how to drive in replacement races. I use a hockey puck. The hard rubber transfers energy and doesn't damage the race. Another good tool is a brass drift that allows you to fully seat the race without damaging it. When you restore the end of the drift make sure you put some beeswax on the grinding wheel to keep it from loading up with the brass.

    Great fix Wes ,, good to be that you saw her video and were at the right place & time to offer the help.. She probably doesn't realize how bad they really were ,, litteraly life and death , for herself or someone else .. Vehicles are only machines that wear out ,, they need regular service and inspections of all areas of design ,, some problems can be frustrating with costs and delays ... but no brakes can be death..
    .. I also Turned wrenches for many years and would have loved to had a shop setup at home ,, always was a dream but didn't happen ,, life changes constantly ..
    ...I hope that many road travelers watch your video's like this and think about vehicle maintenance scheduled into the plans..
    And if they are in your area ,, you might be able to schedule a few in ,, you deserve the reference and clientele..
    .. Again as a concerned viewer of some of these road warriors ,, Thank You for stepping up to help !! .. And a big Thank You Mrs. Wes ..for being the wife and person that you are..obviously a strong and secure marriage ..

    👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always. Congrats. Although it is already 24yo that Bronco looks nearly rust free (although it was driven in the winter and on the salt flats). Pretty amazing! I guess a good rinsing with water (pressure washer and/or hose) always managed to get rid of the salt/dirt.
    This RUclips collaboration was nice to see and I'm curiously looking forward to watch part 2.(and, if course, the next part of the great crawler series too). I guess having 4 dogs in the shop was a premiere too. I simply love dogs.💚

Tried to explain that grease doesn't flow or circulate, even when I showed him one of his hubs packed full of bright pink grease and after 5000 miles only two dark rings where the bearings are. I pack the bearings like Wes does, can't remember if it was my dad or his dad that taught how to pack bearings, I have passed the knowledge to my son.

      Talk about a "lost art". Packing a bearing in that fashion was the way I was taught by my Uncle Mike back in the early sixties when I was just a wee lad and just learning the enjoyment of busting wrenches (and knuckles). Still do it the same way even though I was presented a fine bearing grease injector years ago which still resides in its original box somewhere in my shop. Where I do no longer remember. I grease them the same way even when they are going into an oil bath environment. I also drill out, tap and insert grease fittings in all my "permanently lubricated " U-joints, tie rod ends, drag links, steering shafts etc. I've found that "permanent " means between 2 to 5 years depending upon severity of environment.

    I like the chaos the extra pups bring. An old farm dog used to walk to my dad's shop every day, stay until lunch, and then walk back home every evening. He fell asleep under a car once and then freaked out when he woke up and was locked in. He made quite a mess of the place trying to get out. My bluetick hound is much more laid back and sleeps most of the time, UNLESS there are visitors. Then he can't sit still.

    Great video. I have done brakes and bearings several times on my one owner Bronco. Loved the detailed coverage on the 3 screw automatic locking hubs. They are kind of rare. OEM on mine was a 6 screw but was replaced under warranty with 3 screw. When repacking bearings I only found 1 video on taking them apart and it wasn't very good. Hope your video comes up when searching for automatic locking hub bearing repack.

    Hi, Came to your channel from watching Morgan’s last video. I don’t know much about either one of you but this video seems like something I’ll enjoy watching. So I subscribed. You have peaked my curiosity so I need to go back and see what the story is on this old dragline. I wish you luck with it. And, although I’m also fairly new to Morgan’s channel, I also would like to add my thanks for helping her. She appears to have a host of problems and seems to be content to coast through life, much like I would bet her Bronco has been coasting through stop signs until recently (bad joke)... If only we could throw on some new parts to people to get them back on course and going again, how simple things would be. In that general direction, I think you really helped her out and now she will at least have a more reliable vehicle on her journey! Here’s hoping she figures out where she is going and out to get there...

    My first USA car was a 1977 Econoline (3 on the tree, 6 cyl). It had noisy brakes that worked well and I I just assumed that they were noisy because it was old (this was in 1996). 2 months and my miles later when driving through a town with mirror window buildings I could se, every time I braked, lots of sparks and some flames poured out of my wheels. My rotors were almost down to the fins, the pads were ...well there was enough of the backing plate to cover the piston! Broke lots of tools including a 16" G clamp getting the brakes the back together.

    • @WatchWesWork
      @WatchWesWork  4 года назад +1

      That style of brakes are kind of known for that. The abutment surface goes all the way across the rotor, so the pad can never come out.
