so you telling me i m going to watch this guy talk for a full hour TWICE to understand the settings and play a video game in vr ?
you're goddamn right
Funny! 😀
What you did is, according to me, the best to date on RUclips. Would be great to see you updating that content now that we are all facing fps issues post rain, post S3 2024. Hope you are fine and will come back again with such a content updated or any other results of your abilities.
Great video buddy. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Shared 👍
It’s reassuring to see you here Dave. Keep making them learn the track videos, I learn so much off them ones. Thx
Just cannot thank you enough for this. These settings were the difference between an undriveable mess and the best immersion I've ever experienced. Thank you SO much for your hard work.
Thank you and I am very glad the guide was helpful, please visit the iRacing forum and my guide thread there for many many many updates to it. Take care!
Simply brilliant. Running a high end gaming pc just for VR and I have to say it’s even better with these settings. Thank you for your hard work.
Would love your settings for Dirt Rally 2. Please.
Thank you for your hard work. Definitively one of the most informative stream!
Robert thanks for taking the time to produce this super super guide , i am due to change VR headsets in a couple of days , so i will deffo be needing this info :)
Thanks for the video, good to have the good tips from thousands of pages in the forum in a short video, for low end gpu users (like me) i would recommend to set to off the grandstands and crowds, and medium shader quality and particles, use virtual mirror and no mirrors (mirrors can be on for replay). It looks pretty good despite almost everything else is in low.
Good job and good luck on your races.
I just updated almost all of your suggestions and WOW what a huge difference - Thank You :)
Sort of wish I had done it one at a time though so I knew which changes did what and which were the most effective - but that is time consuming and I am lazy so will just live with it as it is now.
Over many years I have followed other peoples settings for many things and some worked and some didn't and I generally ended up just figuring it out on my own. But honestly this is the first time someone elses settings have blown me away - Great Work !!
Amazingly detailed video. Thanks so much for taking the time
Thank you for the new guide 10/2022!
Incredibly good work. iRacing now looks great and I have a constant 90 frames!
Works great with my HTC Vive Pro 2 with a 2080Ti and 9900K.
Thank you so very much, much appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
Greetings from Germany Robert and thanks for this interesting and informative guide. I today got me an Oculus Rift S on my Ryzen 2700 and a 1080 GTX. Without configuring iRacing yet it performs very well but your video shows still a lot of tips how to conserve performance for best VR experience. Thank you :)
Thanks for the lengthy video!!! Your depth in explaining about everything, is THE BEST I've found. Even if the changes don't work on my system, you time is WELL APPRECIATED!!!
I just raced in an official race, WoW!!! What a difference!!! Thanks again. Is it ok that I share this to my league?
Terry CRASH61 Landis Oh yes, sorry for late answer 😄
Amazing and a true service to the community!
Great guide. Works fantastic with my Oculus. I made the mistake of adjusting the main slider toward max frame rate before a race once and it erased all my settings. Thank again for making this video.
Thanks Robert. Your video helped me get my FPS in iracing with my index VR headset from 75-80 FPS to 140+. I think the nvidia pre-rendered frames setting was the big one. Thanks for this amazingly helpful content!
This was fantastic, you advice has totally transformed the quality of my iracing VR experience. I thought it was good before but now it is amazing. Thank you for the time you invested and your preparedness to share.

@@FrontSeatRacing Great guild help me also so thank you
@@Simlife101 Cool thanks!
.... lol you have some pretty low standards if you use the word "amazing" in reference to the quality of iRacing's graphics in VR, in any capacity. Do yourself a favor: Buy Assetto Corsa Competizione and play it in VR. The quality difference is like night and day.
@@Kultivater ACC looks shit in VR - its very poorly optimised
Thank you for all the work and your time to produce this video.
Thanks for your time on this. Very detailed and useful information 👌
Hey Steve and thanks!, please visit the iRacing forum and my guide thread there for many many many updates to it. Take care!
Thank you very much for the time you spent putting all of this together and sharing it with us. I just acquired a Hp reverb G2, this is extremely helpful.

Thanks for that, will try out your recommandations
G’day Robert, I’ve watched this video quite a few times now and use it as a reference when I come back to iRacing VR settings.
I run a HP Reverb (the 1st one) and the distance blur has always been annoying for me, I have not yet found a way to fix it but I just stumbled across your written guide searching elsewhere, wow, what an awesome document, well done and thankyou for your input into the community, I’ll read the rest tonight and have one last go before looking at replacing the Reverb V1.
Wow your info in this video just helped me so much. Just got into VR with a HP Reverb G2 running on a 3070. Was getting roughly 60-70 fps with mostly high settings. With your info, i am now at 89-90 fps. Thanks a lot!
Great video, very helpful, thank you!
Great video learnt a lot watching this, im having a mare streaming with quest 3 rtx3080 new to VR, hopefully using and understanding settings may help for streamlab twitch streams. Very informative guide in all settings. Thanks Robert.
awesome mate! took the shimmery race lines away looks way better now
Great Video, Thank you for putting this together!
Thanks, please see this guide in the iRacing forum to with tons of updates to it. Take care!
Fabulous Well done , cant wait to try these out ..
Thank-you sir. Great video! What a difference it made for me. Still had trouble getting my CV1 to work smoothly in iRacing on my i5-4670K system after replacing a GTX780Ti with an RTX2070 Super. Your video solved my issues.
Midnight Walker Thank you and I am very glad the guide was helpful for you, please visit the iRacing forum and my guide thread there for many many updates to it. Take care and good luck!
I also updated my RAM from 8Gb to 16Gb after realizing iRacing had changed the recommended minimum hardware specs. This eliminated the excessive page faults.
Thanks m8 your video has helped me get my FPS back from 22fps to 90fps solid in race GTX1070
The best iracing VR guide in youtube. Thank You!!!!
Dude THANK YOU SO MUCH. My game looks 10x better and I haven't taken any FPS hit at all. You're a bloody legend I bet this was a ton of work to put together. Thank you!
Awesome man. Thank you!
This video is legendary, got a Quest 2 the other day and thought since I used to run triples just fine, but would do good too without any graphical adjustments, instantly got motion sick the second I got in the cockpit. This video helped me tweak so I can use vr just fine now, hopefully enough to do a full Daytona 24 stint too lol
Very in depth. Thank you. 👍
Thanks so much, please see the iRacing forum for the written extended updated guide, take care!
I set my oculus quest to these settings, getting my VR legs, my battery went low on lap 8 of 10 and started acting crazy. But I can put my car where I want to put it unlike with a monitor. This thing is a game changer. First dirt oval I placed 3rd and dodged stopped cars I’d hit or never have seen before. Thank you for the video it helps alot
Thanks, great video . Regards from Mexico.
You did a great job man! TY very much!!
Thanks for the guide it was very helpful now i only have to get used to vr and not get sick in like 5 minutes haha
Outstanding work! It really makes a big difference on my system. My default frame rate was around 60fps and now it is at an average of 120fps. Thanks for sharing your work ... great video!
Thank you and I am very glad the guide was helpful on your system, visit the iRacing forum and my guide thread there for many many updates to it. Take care!
FrontSeat Racing thanks again , Unfortunately everything that worked yesterday after I made all the adjustments doesn’t work today . I’m now getting similar FPS as before . Even with these changes . I noticed that Windows was running an update and if that’s is the reason for it. One setting I tried was "visibility frame delay=0 “ but that made the picture very blurry inside the car ( the gear indicator) and outside the car the banners. It was unreadable. I’m using a valve index . CPU i7-6850@3.6 Hz 6core, 16 GB Ram , Nvidia GeForce 1070 windforce oc 8GB
@@vwkrebsOh it´s hard to tell what the issue is but again please read the forum thread and search for info there. Good luck and I am positive it will be fine!

Thanx a lot! Best Video and Tutorial about VR-Settings in Iracing. Workshop fine! 1000 thumbs up!
Thank you very much!
Had iracing for a week. Tweaked it on my own and was fairly happy with until I watched this video. Gained 30fps on average . Thanks!

@@FrontSeatRacing 2 years on and I am using the guide still. HTC Vive Pro. This and the forum post are still extremely helpful, thank you again!
I have just stumbled across this vid on forums, im new to VR quest 3 RTX3080 and although i have found a decent visual with 90fps, streaming has been a nightmare with streamlabs, so im hoping that this may help with settings also. Very informative video and i have learnt a hell of a lot of what settings actually do. thumbs up even know it was 4 years ago lol
Thanks! Good tips for me after upgrading my GPU and CPU. From 980 ti to rtx 2080:
I couldn't reach the 90fps... Just delete the old configdx 11.
Start again. Let the program choose the good config...
For me resolved everything...
90 FPS smooth with high settings...hope it'll work for you.
Thanks!
Wow.. never saw a video that explained each settings pros and cons this good. Never needed to touch the settings, could run Iracing with most settings to the max, but the G2 is just too demanding for that. Hard part is that some tracks much more demanding than others.. it would be nice if we could set the settings per track :)

Thank you very much indeed. Great video 👍 You are the man!!!
Thanks so much for this great explanatory video!!!!!!! It was exactly what i was looking for to finetune iRacing with my HP Reverb HMD. And please continue your great work with a detailed video on how to best use OBS to capture videos. I'd love to see that. Also I would be very interested in a video on Steam VR optimisation, as i'm sure i got it setup all wrong. I cannot even find where to turn off async reproduction in Steam VR. Perhaps it's not an option that can be turned on or off anymore? Keep up the great work!!!
Hello and thanks for your comment, I dont plan doing any Tech videos for a while as this one drained me ;) but perhaps later on. If you visit the iRacing forum you got an updated written guide post that hopefully can help you with the SteamVR thing. Good luck!
Frank what cpu/gpu combo are you running? Looking to improve my reverb experience.
Besser geht es nicht. Herzlichen Dank!
Hey did you try this recently? Wondering if many of the settings might be outdated now 😢
Like Pareto. Even with 4090 in VR i got 80% from this video incl. the knowledge what I can change if my headroom is big enough. Some special configurations I found in other places but this video is still very very helpful.
thank you@@Kaiserphysikant watching it now!
Amazing! You're DR VR!
Not really haha, please visit the iRacing forum and this guide there as I have added tons of updates to it, more is coming. Good luck!
@@FrontSeatRacing did you see that one can buy Starvr One now? It looks like it can be the optimal HMD for sim racing as it sports human level FOV: www.starvr.com/product/
Jonas Norberg Hello, I agree it looks really promising and as always the determined price later will tell if it will something to consider. Take care!
no leaving extra ram in the gpu or the meories is wrong. Always leave some especially if you have a nice pc. It increases performance. Also cap the fps to 92 if you use vr. cheers
Really awesome work. Watch the whole video and been on the forum for updates. Got a i7, 1080gtx 16gb. 16gb ram.. works perfect with these settings except some tracks. Le mans for example. Getting fps drops alot when racing.. one question. You state in the guide that Fps G and R should be lower then 10 or 11. Mine is stuck at 12.3 but 80 fps stable. When 12.3 goes higher i have fps drops. Using rift s. Should i be able to get the number lower? Thanks in advance
Still valid... TY
Hello, please visit the iRacing forum and my guide thread there for many many updates to it. Take care!
Great Video Robert.
Would these changes work for people who use one monitor?
Yep, most of them works the same!
Thank for the video. I can only imagine the amount of time you put into researching all of this data. I do have a question. Are you seeing the data on your screen for driver position and fuel remaining in your VR headset while driving? If so, what software is that, and/or how did you get it to show up? I haven't been able to get anything to show up in the headset while I'm on the track.
Hi Jeffrey, I only see the in game menus when racing in VR, the ones that are shown in the video are streaming overlays from Kapps called APPS. So that is the deal, good luck checking that great app out!
FrontSeat Racing Thank you for the quick response!! I’ll keep an eye out for anything coming up and let you know.
I don’t understand how come such an old game can’t be run on max graphics with my rtx 3090 and 5950X cpu in vr.
Thank you so much for this superb guide, really is exactly what I was looking for to help get the best out of iRacing on my Reverb G2.
I have s light issue with my app.ini file though, I hope you may have some suggestions? When I open it to edit (of course making sure IRacing is not running), many of the lines mentioned in your guide (e.g. "SharpeningAmount" or "SharpeningClamp" are not there. In fact in the [Graphics] section the only line is "ServerTransmitMaxCars". Am I doing something wrong? many thanks
Hey and thanks, my guide is not updated but its coming, please see the iRacing forum for tips and solutions, good luck!
Thanks for this guide! I’m new to iRacing and have been using my triple screens. I do have a VR headset, but in other sims I often like to go back and forth between VR and triples. How do you do that in iRacing? Do you just keep backups of the .ini files and replace them when going back and forth? Thanks again!
Hello, I mention that in my iRacing forum thread of this guide so go there and see a lot of other updates to.
FrontSeat Racing Thanjs again. I’ll check it out.
Hi, thanks for the video but I’m still having issues with things being really fuzzy and pixilated especially at a distance, on all Sims like ACC,IRacing, Assetto Corsa how can I get rid of the bad quality as it’s really disturbing.
Can I ask where you got the bracket connected to your seat that holds your rear speakers?
Steve Duerr Hi, its a Obutto bracket that can be ordered separately. Check Obutto online 😁
Is there any new videos out here on yt that show VR Optimization? Some stuff that is in this video is no longer in iracing and some other new stuff has been added to rendererDX11.ini file. (2020-10-27)
Hello, I have not done a new video about this subject but this guide is also in the iRacing forum, I have continuously updated the guide there. GL!
windows reality, steam vr, pc, radeon catalyst, in game settings.... There are literally 5 settings here interwined... no wonder we all have issues. whch takes precedent ? The graphics card or the steam vr settings etc?
Thanks for the video
In the file renderer Dx11 under open vr i can’t find resolutionscalepct
why ? I use hp reverp and it’s really good in other games but in iracing the car look really sharp but the track and objects looks blurry , i have no issue with performance and i set most of the important settingsto high
Welly Hello, see my iRacing forum thread to the guide, it got a lot of updates to it, they have removed that setting.
Nice video. But the DDU program ruined everything of my graphic settings plus a new install i was not able to do. Lucky 4 me he made a restore point.
I do have one question.... i'm on iracing with the Skip Barber in my Oculus Rift... and everything is fine except one thing. You can adjust the rider seat to left - right - up - down.
But is there a way to rotate your head view ? Because when i look straight ahead i look at the right front wheel. And this is ''out of line'' for cornering. I know the option "re-center HMD" key. But it keeps me looking a little to the right side. I hope you know the answer :) Thnxzz 4 the video
P.Tijgers Hello, I dont have the answer fully but I believe you can adjust that by a command in the compositor mirror app in the Oculus folder, search the iRacing forum for more details. Take care!
@Front Seat Racing can you link me the part used to attach your speakers to your bucket seat. I have tried to find one everywhere but no luck. I want to attach my surround sound speakers to my seat as you have so any help would be wonderful.
cheers
Hello, the speaker brackets are bought from Obutto webpage and are original accessories, take care!
Great video. I don’t have “ResolutionScalePct” in the “rendererDX11.ini” file. Has iRacing changed the file?
Just tested all the other settings and it bumped my FPS by about 20. Thanks!
Hello, you are right, iRacing changed that setting a while ago and please see this guide in written form in the iRacing forum for many updates to it.
What software do you use with the quest to play iracing. Is it directly iracing, or is it via steam vr ?
Hello, I use the Oculus Rift and its software Oculus Home, I could use SteamVR with same result. Take care!
Question......I have the Oculus, I use 3 sensors. BUT, the left and Right ARE NOT more then 3 feet apart, like they should. While racing, my image jumps to the left OR right. Do you think I should remove bith left and right, and use a center sensor only?
Dont know really but do spend time configure the sensors in the Oculus software and test it there. Generally two sensors is enough and I it can be fine with one also but I have not tested that. The more width and right height of the sensors the better tracking. Derek Spear design got som adapters for the sensors than are positioned on the top of the monitors that can be helpful. Good luck!
Hello im having some trouble fixing my driving position. Im using HP reverb. every time i press the reposition key im set to a position where the only thing i can see is the car peddals :(
do u have any thoughts on that. thx in advance
Hi, please check the iRacing forum for info about the issue, I dont know the answer more that you can adjust seating position in the iRacing options tab and camera tool. Good Luck!
the new settings are great - i have more or less 90 frames - many thanks
and ist Looking much much beter
BUT from time to time - after 2-3 laps (Monza, Imola - others i did not test so far)
fps Drops for 1-2 sec down to 75 fps - not always at the same place
this happens during online Training, online Racing and also VRS based Training sessions (without other cars)
i have no idea - had this too, before i change to your Settings
any idea about the root cause
Hi, can be many things but most likely an iRacing issue and not related to any hardware and software on our side.
@@FrontSeatRacing Thanks - i testest without SPS - get less fps drops - have a GTX 1080 - maybe thats the reasong
Great Video but "Grand Stands" is not completely right ... just try start/finish in Barcelona with "Grandstands high - low" you will see the difference. Grandstabds high is a must have imho :)
Man, this is a great video but I'm stumped on how to actually get the VR set up on iRacing. I already went through the HP reverb set up with Microsoft but am lost on iracing on how to actually use the headset (I thought it would be like the PS4 where it would recognize and auto-switch to it). Any help here would be appreciated, thanks!
Hello, for iRacing we need the program SteamVR and the standard Mixed Reality Portal for it to work. Just got my Reverb and I had the same question :)
@@FrontSeatRacing Thanks for the reply! I was actually able to get it to render to the Headset about two hours after I wrote the comment. But now I'm stuck where I feel super close to the steering wheel, can't see rear or side mirrors and when I try to "look around" the interface doesn't look around with my head movements. Were you able to solve this issue? Thanks for any help!
@@christopherregalado366 Adjust your seat position by the iRacing camera tool and choose the cam inside the car, this will make you move your position and save it. Also the reset tool something at the bottom under controls is good.

Perfect. I just remove the sharpening. I don't really need it with a pimax 8k+.
diamond0sgi Sounds good, visit the iRacing forum thread to, it got tons of update to the guide.
Hello and thank you. I have two questions. 1. Is this information still accurate, just as it is 4 years old now? 2. What I see in VR (Quest 3) is also displayed on my triple 1440 monitors.
How can I best reduce the workload on my system from the 1440 monitors, so my system can focus on the VR display, (Lenses)?
Hey you just reduce the res in graphics settings. How did you get on with the rest of it?
Have been trying to get my 3060 ti and 5600x setup to run with quest 2 as best as possible, but I’m running into problems with this so-called screen door effect where the outside of the car and everything looks really fuzzy, it’s real frustrating being so new to this
This is just from the headset itself. It's due to the resolution of the headset's screens, as the pixel density isn't hight enough to really elimenate the screendoor effect. After using it for a while, you'll probably start noticing it less, or rather get used to it. I personally upgraded to an HP Reverb G2, as it's significantly clearer due to the high pixel density. It is however quite taxing on the system as it's having to render a much higher resolution per eye.
what are those overlays and are they available in OpenXR?
Hey, the overlay is called kapps but is discontinued, try Racelabs instead, great great stuff, GL 😀
I have an i7-4790k at 4.4ghz
16 Gb ddr3 1600mhz ram- mobo limited
1070ti 8gb. Am i ram limited here?
I would also like to note that i can run 90fps even on higher settings on all tracks but Le Mans, which I got last night. Im going to try these settings including your nvidia, but im keeping geforce experience for the sake of video recording easiness
Hi, you are good with that hardware, iRacing loves your CPU and your GPU is also fine. Less important is the memory speed and you are good there to IMO. Yes, keep Nvidia Experience for the recording stuff. Good luck!
FrontSeat Racing I also assume its varies track to track on what is capable of being ran? For instance, michigan has a ton a pit objects in the infield and that killed my framerate.
Also, I have a coolermaster hyper ever 212 cpu heatsink. Do you think it would be save to OC higher than 4.4 to say 4.9?
@@Thirty-OughtSick Try OC at your own risk, some performance gain for free :) Should be safe and I had the same CPU and got it to 4.7 stable.
how to make vr work in iracing, it's just a big screen, it's not putting me in the cockpit vr :(
Hello, try reset your seating position by the button "recenter HDM", take care!
Is this still relevant? Or is too much changed? Thank u!
Are these settings still relevant in 2024?

Great video and forum post on iRacing, Robert! I am very happy I have found this invaluable information.
Please, update this YT thread after you have tried your new Reverb. I have been trying to decide if VR is the route to go over using high-res monitor(s).

How can I run Iracing without Steam? Steam limits me to 45 FPS.
Hello, I dont believe in any way Steam is limiting your frame rate but your VR software can. I suggest you go and check my iRacing forum thread of this guide and see a lot of other updates to. Good luck!
Best to buy I racing from the actual website rather than steam, much cheaper and easier, i use the beta iracing app since it’s really simple to use and quick too
