- Episode 192 of Mike Finnegan's Garage is so damn good! The Death Metal 1968 Dodge Charger has been keeping it sketchy since the 1970s and now it's mostly fixed! Thanks to Kevin Smith and some slick parts from QA1 and Wilwood, this car handles, stops and steers better than ever! By the end of this video we are doing burnouts and shaving 40ft off of our 60 mph to 0 mph stopping distance. So much win!
Wanna help us out? Buy a shirt, hat, hoodie, or stickers and we'll keep dumping that cash right into fixing up the car!

Thanks!

Yesssssss!!!! I’m excited to get it to a track now!!
How fast of a time do you think it would get on Cleetuses track?
needs to race jack stands camaro
Good to see you measuring like the alignment like the rest of the world hahah
NO JOKE! Road racing this beast would be amazing.
Great to see you with Finnegan again , love the crossover episodes , you two make a good team with Neubern and Bow lol
Love how no matter what Kevin is working on he doesn't stop till it's perfect to him. From top notch drag car to Independence chevelle and death metal charger.
I know it's funny seeing him on all the top car channels. Seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy
Kevin brings so much to the table that we shade trees didn't know. He is always welcome
Couldn't help noticing that he also speaks fluent metric, which is bloody impressive for a yank ;)
Also seeing him on Demolition Ranch is crazy
@@Brudovo3434 what episode was that? I missed that one
The guy in the Chevelle- "did we just become best friends"?
Finnegan after seeing him burnout- "yep".
That’s one sweet looking car. Sounds nice to.
I love that. Pulling over and shooting the shit with another car aficionado after ribbing each other on the road is so wholesome. Memories like that last with you forever.
Happyface Chevelle. :)
Kevin has obviously cloned himself. How else could a fellow be involved in so many badass projects, racing of all kinds, engine building, a RUclips channel, and run a successful fabrication hotrod shop? The man is a legend in his prime.
and honestly it didnt look like he recorded any content for himself or his channel all for good old Finnegan
@@TugBoatENT Kevin has a video on this job
🤔🤣
I’ve got another video coming too ;)
Kevin is that youtube gift. The world gets to know how freaking amazing he is !!!!!!!!!
I love it when my favorite channels collaborate. Kevin is such a good dude and very knowledgeable.
yep
Can we all agree that the world needs more people like Kevin?!?
The guy is absolutely killing it and KNOWS his stuff!
Could he possibly be the “Most Entertaining Fab-Guy in Florida”?!?!
FYI QA1 has extended shock toppers. Stock is 1/2" THey have 1" and 2" extended toppers. Possibily a good, easy, cheap fix for your travel issues. (They were for me!)
Finnegans garage is what roadkill used to be!! Keep it up Finn you're doing awesome!
Necessary hackery and roadside repairs? Yea no. This is more like HRG if anything
Word!
No, it's not what roadkill used to be.
Kevin Smith is a smart feller. He knows what he’s doing when it comes to cars 👍🏻
Fricking love ksr attention to details. This guy is a beast.
I love how the 2JZ out smoked the V8! Excellent choice Mr Finnegan 💜💜💜
Not being corner balanced is gonna be on Kevin’s mind all week.
Can't go wrong having Kevin on your team!!💪
Kevin just helping everybody out so cool. Talented man.
Man, Kevin from KSR is the man. He is 100% racecar
Finally...the Not-so Death Metal. Doing races and rally with it would now actually be fun, plus no more overheating! Maybe sometime we'll see this car over at KSR
I love seeing Kevin work so much. His attention to detail and drive to get it perfect is entertaining and I'm learning stuff.
This project has been a blast to see come together
Kevin is awesome! If you want something done perfectly, Kevin is the guy for the job.
Once the rear is fixed and the wheel hop is gone I’m excited to see the handling and burnout potential. Love the build.
Agreed. I only just clicked the video and the first thing I saw was wheel hop. Went from oh cool, to oh fuck real quick
I am using one of those "drag race" radiators in my Triumph Spitfire with a 5.3, with an additional four wheeler rad in the back. working good so far, but this summer will test it for sure. Fingers crossed!
A 5.3 LS Triumph Spitfire is the kind of madness i like!
@@williamgreer4087 Its a looker with twin turbos out the hood.
@@BlytheLifeRacing just subscribed mate, awesome stuff 🔥
The Smile on their faces, Especially Finns when he revs up the 2 step, is PRICELESS!!! That is pure love for cars and what you do right there! Love it! Love the vids you guys put out, keep up the awesome that is you!
I go total suspension or Electrical geek mode when Kevin is involved. seriously, If I had the coin and Kevin had the time. I luv to build a turb'd up drag car with him. Sorry Fin, I know this is your channel, but, KSR personifies; dedication and excellence. I luv how Fin just scrolls Am*z*n and adds stuff to the cart...."I can make that work"
🤣🤣🤨🤨 "Reeling it in, like you're reeling in a fish'n thing". We need to get you into the woods and on a bass boat more often Kev... If work...was it a dumb idea...
Kevin is the man! Attention to detail and lots of knowledge!
It's nice to have a master like Kevin Smith to help with your build, He's an absolute legend!
I’m about 26 minutes into this video. The cat that is helping you is very very smart !!!
Not only does he know what he’s doing but he knows all the right terminology.
All those big words 😮
Mike You definitely have one of the best men working on the car. Kevin is outstanding at whatever he touches. Awesome content 👍💯 Aussie Fan 🤟🇦🇺 🤣
Awesome. Kevin is so knowledgeable. He’s a good guy to have around and on RUclips!
Thanks!
Thanks, Beekeeper610 I really appreciate it.
Always awesome to see Kevin fabricating, that guy is a wizard and has some of the cleanest workmanship out there! Great work on the Charger, this thing reminds me of how happy you were with the Rotsun but this one is way better haha!
12 volt Dave needs to embrace the beautiful sounds that musically spews from the exhaust as the symphony conductor mike directs that beautiful 2j and orchestrates the sound of his people!!
Finnegan, if Kevin can get your Charger to handle like Lee's Viper, you're in for a treat. Fun to see #WINWITHKSR in Finnegan's Garage
As many things as Joe Barry got wrong, it's pretty cool to see what he was going for and what he wanted to do with such limited resources.
He was going for a ww3 Biden has fucked the world he literally is a ass clown
A lot of that front end stuff he did is not necessarily wrong. It was set up for circle track use which doesn't really work for anything else. Especially the left front.
And remember it was done 50 years ago. There are lots of things that are "wrong" now that weren't then.
Also consider, he may have just been working with what he had, budget-build style. Been there, many, many times--get it working now, make it right later.
I appreciate where he came from, but I'm happy the car is being put somewhat right. Especially if it's improving performance!
Reverend
Tennessee, Georgia, Florida... All my favorite channels are too far south. Wish we had guys like you, Kevin, and Derrek up here in Kentucky. Thanks Mike.
Oh Kevin was a good surprise. Why was he not mentioned in the title? :D
Also, 51:20 with same pressure to all brakes, as expected the rears locked as they did. I wouldn't be surprised if you need like 60/40 (front/back)
I don't think there is any thing Kevin can't do! Car setup, tuning, fabricating, wiring, engine building and not just one type of racing drag, road course! Kevin truly is a master of his craft!
This is one of the most underrated builds on you tube !!!
Thanks for the teaching moments. Really love this episode especially on the front of the car!
Kevin installed suspension. Top notch work Finn. Great content, love the burn outs.
At the beginning I thought "when in doubt Cut it out" then i thought wow they are gonna try and make it work!! cut to 7:15 AAnd they are cutting it out lol. Love it long live Death Metal
I had to do a similar fitting modification when I upsized my Hydroboost brake booster to -8an fittings. Went with O-ring boss fitting and cut 3 or 4 threads off so it would bottom out on the face of the casting. Works great.
Blown away yet again by Kevin's attention to detail and excellent explanations of what's going on! Also a 2JZ swapped charger makes me happy too.
I love watching Kevin work. Always a perfectionist
I friggin love this car, I've always been about Detroit Muscle until in my 20s I bought a 1993 Supra and that car changed everything for me. I still love Detroit Muscle but the 2JZ twin turbo in my Supra has pulled me over to the Dark side and I love it. it isn't the fastest thing out there but it has punked and butt hurt soo many turbo Ls Lt boys. love the videos brother please keep em coming
If Kevin can't figure out a way to get it done, it ain't worth doing. I love watching him work.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE LITTLE CAT REVVING BEHIND YOU!!
I am so happy that death metal is getting corrections. It deserves to be a badass project with the 2JZ in it.
So much fun to watch with some KSR Perfection....You Guys Rock...
LOL , god ole Kevin breaking out the strings.... Ive always done it with strings and jack stands over the years but im not gonna lie , I went right to that website sizing up which kit im going to buy....Kevin is a smart one , good guy to have around....
I love how Beautiful the Turbo Spools sound on the 2Jz ufff never removed it never gets old 🙏🏼🥰🥰
Welp when in doubt call Kevin...the man is amazing at what he does. My two favorite Fabricator's teaming up on The DeathMetal Charger.
That sound coming from that car is absolutely absurd! I Iove it.
Super cool of yall to hang out with that chevelle guy for a bit even though yall were filming an episode. It's good to see the car community guys continuing to stick together.
Brother I've got to say without a doubt I'm beyond hooked on an roadkill all the shows tied to u guy's just like the average guy I can completely relate to how you guys build mad props huge amounts of respect
I love when Kevin help other people with stuff he does everyday and makes it look easy!
LETS GO DEATH METAL!!!
Making yourself some local shop buddies, Fin? Love to see it! Glad the new shop is working out so well for you!
The "flapping things" definitely work, not sure about those ones but the hinged type you find on OEM shrouds open at around 60mph where the fan becomes overblown and actually restricts the air flow
Look at our new mini lathe....proceeds to use grinder on the power steering pump fitting. Another awesome episode.
Took the Florida Man to fix the Georgia boys toy! Lovin it
A genius For Hire that pisses excellence. As if Kevin doesn't have enough to do in his own to shop. Always nice to see the two of you collaborate.
I'm thankful Cleet badgered Kevin enough to start up a RUclips channel and Kevin was willing to go through all of the headache.
I love when an entertaining data-driven racecar guy dives into detail oriented facets of builds. Top notch dude and a blessing to the sport/industry of racing. #EverythingNeedsATurbo
I actually grew up using an alignment machine that used strings for alignments. It works great! Used it on subarus back in the early 90s until ir and Lazer machines were available! Very cool to see you all doing it this way!!!
3 things ... what is the Bluetooth radio that you had on the bench .... & an Idea for the rear suspension... see if QA1 can help yo put C10 rear trailing arms under the back like current NASCAR ... with coil over shocks ... switch out the hater pipe through the hood to a BOOM tube out the side
I don't mind the 2JZ in this car. It gets it, sounds violent, and now it drives a lot better thanks to Kevin and you guys. I'm pretty impressed at the lower ends of those Toyota engines, apparently they can take a lot of power.
So awesome to see the Death Metal Charger get to a point that it's a lot more drivable and man oh man that sounds glorious doing burnouts and on the 2-step.
Kevin is a friggin master of automobiles...dude knows his stuff and this just shows what his brain has in it!
2JZ! Supra Saiyan! Inside of the legendary Bullitt Dodge Charger. Two legends combine.
50:18 You never want to have the rear wheels locking up first (but preferably never).
The car needs a brake limiter valve on the rear axel so that the more the front dives under braking the less brake pressure is sent to the rear.
Why not just use LINE lock
In the Dez it's perfect.
Exactly. Locking rears will make the car want to swap ends under hard braking. You would be very lucky to install different front brakes and not have a front/rear balance issue.
Lots of knowledge being thrown around in the video today. Love being entertained and learning at the same time.
@Finn - those aren't "Hub Centric" spacers, so need to find their way to the recycle bin before the studs get broken.
The clearance, or lack thereof, of the tie-rod end, is just one of the issues with that aftermarket front end - and clearance is why the factory "rear tie-rod with proper Akerman Geometry" has a curved out tie-rod mount.
From what I've been told, the "flappy things" are there to alleviate pressure within the full shroud at highway speeds so its easier on the fans, how true that is I don't know but an old mechanic I worked with swore that's what they were for. Love the videos Brothers, looking forwards to the next one.
It's good to see it on the road at least them damn Duke boys didn't get a hold of it 😎
You definetly picked the right guy to straighten this out for you. Good idea.
Kevin is a master, best alignment with out a laser.
Finnegan- make a T-Shirt of Beau the Shop Dog. I can practically guarantee that it will be your best seller. Who doesn’t love dogs!
Nice , Kevin IS the man for everything!
Kev is just the nicest guy, Pisses excellence lol (Describes the man perfectly) and Dang if you dont learn something or pick up a cool gadget every freakin time!
And Mike and Kev just bounce off each other well, Newbern caps off the shenanigans part of the show and the only thing missing? Cotton and The Worm!
Add to all of this a nearly Hour long episode and im in Hog heaven lol
Fluid extractors are life changing
Worth every penny
i like the taller ride height, it's more "the general" i'd lift the back to match and move the shock mounts so you've got lots of travel front and rear for when you take it back dirt fish to kick ass
Hey Finnegan, that's pretty decent Boss! Good to see Kevin giving the blessings!
Nice! It was cool seeing footage of you rolling around my area.
The "flappy things" must be good for 10hp! Awesome build
Kevin needs a cape lol. Like instead of a S, it should have KS in a diamond like Superman lol…. “Wakes up and pisses excellence….” 🤣🤣👍🏼🤣
Love the 2J in that thing. Sounds awesome. :)
Hey Finn, the brass inverted flare piece can be pulled from the pump. Thread a screw into it and pull it out
I always love to see the tools that Finnegan uses. I think even he might be a bit of a tool nerd like I am……….
Hey Finn those side pipes hanging on your wall would look WICKED on your Charger!
Awesome to see this car getting some proper fitment & some decent brake stoppage 🤟
Sick Motor Great work Kevin, I love the sound of the 2JZ engine.
I did a similar ...driveway. ..alignment....put a plastic bag under each fron tire....then some oil...then another plastic bag....made it real easy for tires to move w liitle resistance as adjustments were made✌
Love seeing you keep in the mistakes, lots of people dont and make their projects look smooth and perfect. dont get me wrong you guys are talented but it makes me feel a little more normal when I make mistakes myself. Cheers, love the build
Awesome 👍🏼 Kevin is a boss as well
I'll say this, you have the right man for the job, kevin is brilliant. Seriously. this dude knows his shit. well done guys, a fun watch too!!
I'm with you, David. The sound doesn't match the car. It needs a deep, mean sound that a 2JZ just doesn't have IMO. That Chevelle is beautiful. Glad to see the guy having fun with it instead of letting it just sit around like a trophy car.
Kevin’s a genius. I need a friend like him
Dude... I've been a professional mechanic for over thirty years. If you get more than half of the coolant in the pan that's a >WIN!
Love all the puppy action I had a springer spaniel and he was the absolute best buddy I have ever had
I can't believe how much better it sounds and drives so much better just by video. It had to be crazy different driving it.
SO Much Winning.. You are Really making that Dodge GREAT.. That being said..( i'm older than Frieburger So ).... not a Huge fan of the 2JZ.. BUT.. I Totally agree with you on the " Make The Car Your Own ".. and build it how YOU want.. Now.. I LOVE that you are making the car handle and Still.. Keeping the * Joe Berry " Vibe.. ( 8 lug wheels etc. ).. My only suggestion?? Since the car Does have a 6 gear and the engine Loves Rpm.. I think a Steeper Rear Gear would help A LOT... Especially with those tires .. It's Not a 90mph freeway cruiser... So.. I really think Lower Rear Gears would make the car SO much more drivable.. Especially in city driving.. " Less BOG ".. Again.. HUGE win .. Love the whole Beater/Joe Berry vibe...
I can't wait for more charger related episodes just for the sounds it makes lol, and I'm not even a big fan of JDM stuff.
I can totally see why people dig the 2J.
