  • Kingdom Hearts III is a game that exists.
I'm not even sure what the general consensus is, whether most people see it as a worthy finale to a story almost 20 years in the making, or a huge let down.
Kingdom Hearts III has always been one of the biggest disappointments I've experienced, but it wasn't until I gave this game a second chance do I understand why. There's some good, some bad, some ugly. This is a video about Kingdom Hearts III.
    I'm so sorry.

Kingdom Hearts 3 may have let a lot of people down, but it was all worth it to hear Woody roast Xehanort.

I think most of those problems are easily addressed or excused due to how the game has to bend over backwards to be itself. First off we’ve built up so much we have nothing left but pay off. It’s time for the final showdown between light and dark. All we need is to save our missing friends. Can’t have Sora do that he’s weak and has to start at level one. Let Riku do it. Ok then let’s train with Kairi. Well see what we really need you to do is get the power of waking, so instead you’ll go to Disney worlds. Oh well how do I get this power. We’ll call you and let you know when you have it. So we are just stalling? Yep stalling. Can I at least go see my FF friends and see if they have something interesting to do while we are sitting on our ass. Shhhhhhhh…
And that’s the point of everything happening in the last 3-5 hours of the game.
The characters standing around regurgitating plot points is all for the sake of making sure everyone is understanding everything. We already saw how Nomura and the team handled keeping every one up to speed in 3D, with the chronicle data entries. Which worked fine but we gotta make sure that nobody is confused so nobody says it’s convoluted so it sells.
The bad voice direction and the action is because the style of directing hasn’t changed since the ps2 days which worked for them because characters where less expressive and there was not much action they could do. Let’s be real KH3 was the first real AAA game in the series since KH2. It’s been riding comfortably while FF had to undergo lots of trial by fires since 10.
Riku and Kairi get lots to do but we can’t see them do any of it because we are playing as Sora. They’ve always had things to do in the background of these games but that was largely because they’re stories where in the background and we as Sora where supposed to go find them and figure out how to take the enemy down in the process. Here though they are all preparing for war, they’re all working together. So it gives us really nothing to do until Sora is ready to do everything. Which just kills the pacing in the Disney worlds.
Same with the rest of the cast. I don’t know why everyone thought everybody in the game would be playable but this is being billed as the next big numbered entry. We see Sora running around all the Disney levels. The best we could get are set levels and move sets for these other characters and still 7-9 is way to many. Even then I think it does the best the game can with the idea of a big battle royal where half of the people involved all have beef with someone. And still give Sora the chance to fight them all.
But out of everything you said I can 100% agree that the set up should have been done in the ending the secret ending and reports. And then of course the Remind dlc stuff.
As far as character motivations though, we could have had scenes of Axel talking about not only Roxas but Ventus and Isa to here, maybe something that could help the Subject X part not feel like it came out of nowhere. Or let’s have a mid game level in Radiant Garden where you can address that Even/Vexen isn’t actually a crazy immoral mad scientist like he was always portrayed as. And also let us see freaking Leon!!
And honestly the DLC does address some of these issues. I don’t think he rushed the ending because he’s looking forward to the next Saga. I think it got rushed because he was working on the two biggest games the company has ever made, after coming of the near 20 year long development hell of Verses 13, with lots of pressure to make the them perfect from both Square and Disney, snd having to restart the whole process again half way because they had to change game engines.
This game does have flaws and some major ones at that. But it hasn’t failed me and many others in what may be the most important matter. It’s still something I hold near and dear to my heart. And from the sounds of the video so do you. I do hope u you try KH4 once it’s out because Nomura is putting everything into this. He’s staffed up the team is ready to move forward and he’s leaving the direction of the FF7R to the guys who really want to run it off the rails.

The biggest isue is the english dub..it mistranslazes alot and causes plotholes. Kairi Surfers the most. She does have a slowburn character arc. All her choices wher so she and Sora and Riku stay friends. She is afraid of change. Sora in KH3 when he sees her in the light is in japanese a callback to the conversation in kh 1.
In kh 3 she trains offscreen but the way its disscripe sounds simulare to how Riku and Sora played with the toy swords as Children wich Trainer them as Keyblade wielders.
When Xemnas tock her its very obvious her instincs kicked in and she called for Sora as he Was always they to save her. In kh 2 he wasnt so sje kicked Axel. In kh 3 he Was. Atleast this was likelyNonuras thought. It also serves as the Final straw Kairi needed. In MoM aje aculy blames herself Not just Xehanort wich is why she wants and decides gerseöf to stay behind and Train with aqua wich will help her Deal woth her supressed issues.
Notice how she practicly had a Panik attack when Terranort tried to atack her? Thats becaus she saw the fave of the Man who once kidnapped her whe she was 4 !

I'm going to level with you, as someone who loves picking apart obtuse media and conspiring about speculative universe mechanics, I quite liked KH3.
Well, I quite liked 20% of KH3, to clarify. But that 20% I really liked, and the DLC is imo excellent.
The problem with KH3 is it's nowhere near as good as KH2. It's not written as well, it's paced considerably worse and though I do like how KH3 plays, KH2 is still basically the bar to which action rpgs need to be judged against.

I see your point mostly, while it’s flaws are sometimes inexcusable, weird, intentionally complicated and a massive turn off, I gotta say KH3 still does a lot good and most reasons for characters being the way they are, is explained throughout it’s narrative, things like Riku and Mickey’s recap of Xehanort’s timeline isn’t a mainly a refresher, it’s figuring out what happened to Terra which I can’t really find a better way to do so that doesn’t make them look stupid, putting their heads together as the team they’ve been with the heads on their shoulders always being the benefactor and leaders of the group, so them dumping some purposeful exposition in order to refresh the player while also helping the plot move along is something I don’t think many get, also Kairi has a story reason for her being so off to the side, she was being trained by a Wizard in mainly magic spells yet I think many forget she hasn’t been through enough experience in order to be more then a liability, sure she managed to get a few lower grade heartless yet expecting to be cured of her PTSD she experienced as a child while also not having much moments of confidence or actual fighting skill that isn’t boosted by pure adrenaline is a large ask, she’s been trained only by a cooky old wizard and a novice keyblade Wielder is not the best of training moments where she could actually be useful and she isn’t useless, she’s the reason Sora’s managed to pull through spiritually multiple times, she just hasn’t been the best in the field physically and where the narrative has placed her, she realistically can’t until she actually gets training from a proper master, which she is now, any other complaints I’ve seen mainly aren’t that good, like “heart jumbo jumbo” or “retreading movies we’ve seen before” which is the point, it’s a fantasy world JRPG with that stuff being complicated intentionally and has been a mainstay since KH1, telling the series to deviate from its roots is exactly what many players don’t want and as you even addressed as times are always changing for video games, tonally and dynamically and that’s not all chalked up to what’s popular, stories change along with gameplay and tones shift along with where the narrative, so I don’t get why God Of War changing to a calmer story that still keeps intense moments while progressing the development of its main characters and mythos changing stories is the issue when that’s what its trying to do, Kingdom Hearts while a mess development wise, it’s been hated by multiple different consoles and publishers along with new engines and experimenting on new and fitting elements to add gameplay wise and story wise, it’s also being headed by one of the most complicated writers of the past 4 decades who has had a passion project canceled, has to fit the tone of the story from Disney and Square Enix, while also continuing a 20-year-long series he’s desperately wanted to continue in the direction he always wished it to go

Why I dont aggre with you i must say its a good change to see someobe who doesnt like kh 3 be an adult abput it anf just say he outgrow the series and hos taste changed and doesnt alinge with Nomuras style why still saying he sees how much Nomura still cares about his games.
The Game turned out mostly how he intended it since 2005. And tbf to Nomura he did say since atleast 2007 ther would be more Arcs.
Abput Soras character: he was always like we see him in kh 3. The diference is that the Facade breaks.
    He isnt just all smiles.
In 2004 Nomura mentioned having the final scene of the series in mind wich suggest he has the Framework of it mapped since atleast KH 2.
KH 3 is just the first nummberd titel wher is is confident enough to work with the Story je has in mind.....
Sora seams to be on a Heroins jorney wich suggests Quadratum is wher he faces his supressed issues. Notice how he isnt smilibg in any KH 4 Sora artwork nomura put out?
He also lets staffmembers put in they own ideas.
Idk i just ramble now. I found the set up was handeldd well in kh 3 and was keept at a minimal .
Kh 4 will also add the writer of Neo TWEWY to the writers team.nomura hopes this will help add in more Character moments make motivatiobs clearer without much exposition and add fresh blood.
But i woukd say Soras future is cast and the end is ther. Minor changes as they progress and new characters get added but thats badicly every story.
And manga. Did you knew he compares writing kh to mangas😂
Anyway I hope soneday you get to be exitet for kh again

Yeah, I get you. I’ll always like this game but it’s problems you just can’t look away from. I’ll follow this series like how I follow sonic. I’ll stick around when I can but it’s never worth putting all my energy to it. It’ll only really make me inevitably distasteful towards it and maybe even the people who are into it. I still have a strong connection with this series and I care enough to keep checking out where it’s story goes even when it doesn’t deserve it
