- In this episode of Embroidery Hub, we teach you how to make DIY double-layered face masks in bulk using a multi-head embroidery machine for mass production. You’ll be able to embroider 16 masks in just 30 minutes using only your embroidery machine, straps, 2 yards of fabric, and tear-away stabilizer. Download the FREE mask design below.
Face masks are in such high demand, that we wanted to show you how to embroider them quickly and affordably to ensure you meet the demand and also profit from your creations.
To create the masks, we use 2 yards of fabric and string for the rear straps.
First, download the design below and load it onto your embroidery machine. Proceed to hoop the tear-away stabilizer within the sash frame and load the frame into the machine. Then, choose the sash frame option on your panel and position the designs onto the frame to make sure that you can fit as many designs as possible. In this case, we will be embroidering 2 runs of 8 masks, creating 16 masks in total.
Afterward, cut the fabric to make sure it covers where the design will stitch. Place the fabric with the outside facing up and stitch over the fabric. After the design stitches onto the fabric, position the ear straps on either side of the mask and secure them with tape. Allow the embroidery machine to embroider over the straps, permanently securing them in place. Place another layer of fabric over the top with the outside facing down and run the machine again to secure both pieces of fabric.
After the machine is done embroidering, remove the masks and tear away the stabilizer. Cut around the masks and then turn them inside out.
The math: 2 yards of fabric costs $14.38 and the straps cost $6.98. The materials add up to be $21.36, which is about $1.36 per mask for 16 masks in total. Masks sell for about $10 apiece, so $10 minus $1.36 = $8.64. Multiply this by 16 masks and you can stand to profit almost $140 for 30 minutes of work.

Thanks for the great video. One thing I noticed was in the beginning of the video you said you were using cut away stabilizer instead of tear away. I only bring it up because I don't want people using cutaway and getting hemmed up (pun intended) when they try to tear it away at the end.
Our mistake! It is tearaway we used, our host miss spoke at the beginning! But yes use tearaway!
this looks good but you did not close the opening which you used to turn the mask inside out ??
is this closed by stitching on the outside by machine ??
thanks
Hi Sandra, you can close it with a sewing machine or and sewing it closed, if you want to close off that side!
Did you top stitch around the perimeter, to close up the hole?
We didn't in this video! You can close the hole with a sewing machine or hand sewing it if you prefer to close that side!
Thank you for mask designs. much appreciated.
You're welcome! Thank you for giving our video a watch!
Hi, do you have a vector file for this design? I want to laser cut the fabric before inserting it into the embroidery machine.
Our deign is exported in .DST!
Do you stitch the opening shut? That's the only thing I missed seeing. Thanks so much for the terrific pattern and video. It's great!!
In this video we left it open! You can close it up with sewing machine or hand sew it together if you want to close those seams.
@@ricomatv Thank you so much for your reply. I thought it should probably be closed either by machine or heat n bond. I don't think you would want to leave it open.
@@ricomatv Could the opening be used to insert a filter?
Willy, man i love your videos, but, but! Show us very step man. At what point can we add a logo, or name or phase to the masks? I know it's a hit or miss, but every little bit helps.. And as always! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for your feedback!

How can I get a dst file for a mask for a single head machine?
HI Janet here you go -> drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bf0MLsJ7UEA-5CsonBtvxDNMWcGEOhiE?usp=drive_open
Can this be done on a 5x7 hoop?
Mary Carlson you would probably have to do one at a time rather than fit 2 in the hoop
Henry's right! You can use a 5x7 but you'll be creating one mask at a time
thank you for the design
Welcome 😊
can you send me the link for the design? sara@yachteesapparel.com I cannot find it.

Hi Victoria, as these masks are washable, we recommend washing them before using them!
