EMERGENCY UPDATE: My tank ended up leaking a few days ago. This is using the tank for not even 2 years. The stand lasted even less time as I needed to replace it after only a year from it getting wet too often. I have a long term review that I will be posting in a week. I'll update this comment with the link. In the video you are currently watching my opinion was somewhat in the middle for this kit. Now a year later it is pretty negative and I would not suggest this kit anymore.
Thank you, she was battling a bacterial infection for almost a year. She did much better over the last few months after finding a medication that showed improvement. It came back pretty severe though a few weeks ago and unfortunately did now make it :(

Taking the rim off wasn't the smartest thing to do IMO. That might have compromised the structural integrity of the tank since these tanks don't have the top center brace to begin with. Besides what was the point of taking the rim off if you are just going to put the plastic lid back on? With the lid on it totally defeats the purpose of removing it in the first place.
Very helpful. As far as algae scraping, you need to get a magnet scraper (and go horizontally), then the the bowfront shape won't be a bother. I think I'd just have glass cut at a local shop and have it overcut slightly, maybe put a lip of silicone under the slides of the glass and let it dry before putting on the tank, to act as a bumper so the glass doesn't slide off, then just lay my own lights on it as bright as I want. I do that in my other tanks. I wouldn't tolerate that top.
Just to provide a little extra information about the glass cutting, I have glass cut quite often for business purposes. You can cut out cardboard patterns, so cut out a pattern of the bowfront shape and then you can half it, and also maybe overcut it as I describe a half inch (there is no plastic lip on this tank like most tanks to hold the glass) maybe even an inch. Silicone might be good, or even gluing small half cut or very narrow dowels might work to hold it in place.
@@SirenaSpades I'm glad the video was helpful. I have a longterm review coming out in a week but unfortunately this tank started leaking for me last week. The stand lasted even shorter so it's mostly negative lol. Thank you for the suggestion though. I actually might do this for my 65g since I'm getting tired of my net DIY solution. Although instead of over cutting I would suggest getting aquarium clips so you can place the glass on that. Otherwise I think the condensation leaking over would be an issue.
Nice review!! Currently considering this tank. I have a 10 gallon rectangular Topfin and it can be annoying taking off the entire lid to clean BUT I’ve gotten used to it. Question what are those two cylinder looking things in the back right corner of the tank? Are they additional filters? Lastly hope your fish feels better soon. Doesn’t look too good :(
Thanks for checking out the video! The cylinders are sponge filters. You are correct in your guess, they are additional filters that are easy to clean. They also can be switched between tanks easily. You just need an air pump to run them. There are some good videos that explain how to set them up.
Nice review! I just bought same tank but I bought the starter set with no stand. They have upgraded the lid and light. Looking forward to setting mine up tonight. I’ll post a video! Thanks for the video!
@@TheAquaticCoder I bought this as a starter kit. Came with everything. Better lid . When I read your original comment I went back and looked at the combo and it has the same crappy lid you mentioned. Not sure what the deal is there.
The tank has held up well. No leaks at all. However, the stand has started to warp after almost a year. My goldfish sometime splashes water and the stand does not seem the be the best quality. My overall thoughts now are more negative than when I made this video but it still is a good deal overall if you get the set on sale.
@@andrewstanley4831 I'm concerned that after it getting wet a lot it warped significantly for me. The material was buldging. It was right under the tank and not a side so I wasn't too worried. With this stand I would try your best to keep water off it. Overall I think it will hold up solid without any worry for at least a year after purchase. But I would keep in mind you might want an upgrade around that period.
@@TheAquaticCoder Gothcha thanks. I’m considering upgrading my 3 comets from their 20 gallon to something larger. 2 of them are about 1.5 years old and the other is a few months old, I’m not worried about caring for a larger tank. I’m concerned about having a proper stand to support the weight and finding a stand/ tank combo.
Thanks for checking in. It is a mix of both. Behavior wise they are doing much better. Very active during feeding time and eating lots. They still sit at the bottom of the tank when not feeding though. The physical signs are not the best as I can tell the infection is spreading. Been trying different medicines for almost 6 months now.
@@Bigdaddysabesautomotive Yes it can be found here www.petswarehouse.com/aqueon-versa-top-36-gallon-bow-front-29-3-wide-l-1/ Upon further research you will likely need clips since the Topfin tank is rimless to hold the lid. he said in another video that it got a parasitic infection that made him slimy so it could stick to the glass and get out. He found it doing ok in a lake not too far.
@@DTaylorRUclipsChannel Lol uhh I don't know what Llando is talking about. Might be confusing me with someone else or making up stories. But thank you for checking out the video and asking. They are doing much better. Still lethargic but they have been without any medicine for months now without any symptoms of the bacterial infection they had. There was a while where a week without medicine would result in worsening symptoms so it is a relief to see them doing well now. I have a recent video with an update where they got a new friend in the tank.
You need to get an airpump and airline tubing. I'd recommend finding a video on here that shows you how to set them up. Just search "sponge filter set up". Once you do it the first time it is super easy and simple after.
Yes the light operate separately from everything else. It has it's own on/off switch and cord. But this kit does not come with a filter. Only the stand, tank, lid, and light. The lid/light are attached together as a single piece.

Additionally, I have an extra 20% off coupon waiting to be used. The leaks and explosions have me worried. I have toddlers and safety is NON-NEGOTIABLE. The Aqueon version with the center brace which is nice and seems the best of all the versions on this tank. I'd have to go in-person to verify it's the Aqueon version. What do you suggest....?
No leaks or issues with the tank itself. It is a year and a half later now and the tank has help up great. I did have an issue with the stand though. After about a year it started to warp from getting wet. It didn't give out on my but it definitely started to not look safe so I upgraded it. Prior to the year mark there was no issues with the stand. I'd just keep it in mind that the stand might need upgrading a year in and isn't the best quality. The one in the video is from Topfin and does not include a brace on the top. It is actually rimless at the top. I cannot speak to the Aqueon one unfortunately.
@@TheAquaticCoder Was the stand issue related to problems with the lid? I've read the lid itself is cheap plastic and collects a lot of condensation. Subsequently, the condensation will drip down and inevitable damage the stand. I would probably get the glass versa lids to mitigate this issue. Yea, I noticed topfin isn't braced at the top and is similar to rimless style type aquarium. I just am very indecisive on it. However, I'm getting an amazing deal on it. Can the light be upgraded easily? I've seen some mods for the hood as well to cut it in half, to keep costs down should I forgo the versa tops.
@@Aquaman-wy3mg No I actually kept the top off for the first year amd used a different light since I kept goldfish in it and needed the temperature lower in the summer. Anyway they did a lot of spashing which warped the stand. I am using the lid now and I do see water streaks drip down occassionally from condensation. So I would expect the stand to warp anyway from normal use. But yes it should be pretty easy to add a different light to the hood if it is a flat light. I was thinking about doing that actually in the future. Probably using heavy duty velcro or something similar.
Sort of...lol, there are screws to easily remove the light it comes with. But in my brief research I couldn't find a light by Topfin that would be a direct replacement. So it may require getting another light attaching it to the lid with a strong adhesive.
That's a great deal! Half the price as what I got it for. After a year the stand did start to warp a little since my Goldfish often splashed water. I'd recommend trying to keep it dry. The tank has help up perfect though with no issues.
