Picked up a 2021 m40i around 6 months ago. Had 24k miles and I have a warranty until August of 2026 with unlimited mileage. Funny that I probably won't even need it. Car has given me ZERO problems. Nothing but smiles.
@@crunchyblack2224 Here's an interesting update. I traded my '21 m40i for a '23 CPO Black Label Lincoln Aviator. My wife has a '20 Explorer ST. About the same vehicle. She has a ton of problems with hers, but I figured since it was the first year of a new model, they'd worked stuff out by now. They did NOT. Screen going black, blue screen of backup death. Clunky transmission. On a CPO with 18k miles! Luckily Lincoln has a killer money-back guarantee. The dealer did me a solid. They allowed me to return the car and hop back into my m40i. So, I did. Lincoln is still just a Ford with a loaner program. No better than the Explorer, unfortunately. So fortunate to get my X3 back!!
Great video. Last week I did cross shop X3M and X3M40i and I bought 2024 X3M40i. I love it. It is a bit slower, but much cheaper to buy and cheaper to service, maintain and a better ride. You gave me hope that this model is a reliable BMW.
Glad my video helped you make your decision. I agree that the M40i is plenty of power and reliability. The X3M is great but I feel the B58 engine is the best overall engine out there today. Have fun!
@@TMidnight I could not sleep for a month. :) I went to a dealer, and they had one 2024 just came out of the truck X3M.... I traded in my 2024 X3M40i. I still think that X3M40i is a better everyday driver. X3M is just a race SAV for the road. Madness.
Yep, I've been driving a cross country 3-4 times a year, and the X3 was superb in every aspect, my aim to properly maintain it, and may be do some add on's like yours soon. Enjoy the X3 and Drive safe.
My 20 x3 m40i has 33k no problems. Biggest gripe is the black brake dust. Cant keep the wheels clean for 2 days. Its been great. Warranty is over. Going to trade it in soon for a new one.
@TMidnight also another thing. On the next one I won't get run flat tires again if I can avoid it. Too expensive and very few options atleast for 19 in rims I've experienced. And I think they are not supposed to be repaired. Hit a nail. Boom 1200-1400 spent just like that. Yeah, I'm not a fan of run flats. But I absolutely love the car. Probably worth it still. But. 😆
Nice, I’ve the exact same car but with 96k miles so far never had any issues at all since I got it from dealer 3 years ago, now I’m working a study on what kind of maintenance to preform on this M40i, cause I intend to keep it.
Wow that’s amazing! You’ve must have taken a lot of road trips also. I’ve only heard through research to check your water pump, other than that nothing major.
@@shadowsniper9513 Hi There, Well, I just passed 111,000 miles. My X3 M40i is still running like brand new car. With all the experience that I have about cars, I went through a terrible mistake that was about to cost me $20K. in other words a new engine. Since I passed the 100K. Miles I switched to using W5-30 Mobil oil to prolong life expectancy of the engine, it was fine for the summer, but we have faced a sudden drop in temperatures in Tennessee and it snowed heavily, temperatures went down to 18F, in the first day in this low temp, I got a message stating Low Oil Pressure, and its suggesting to stop driving the car, long story short I had to replace the oil back to the recommended W0-20, due to this fault I had to replace the Oil Pressure Pump, thank God it ended this way. Other than that the car is preforming well, I don't press on it hard any more like I used to when it was in its 50K.sh miles. I believe the X3 M40i can do 200K. miles if it's been taken care of regularly.
Allegedly Toyota provided input to the B58 and asked for revisions to its design with reliability in mind. Even if they didn't I think the B58 is a long way from the original high power I6 motor, the N54, and BMW has had a lot of time to make improvements. They really came with their best for the B58.
Toyota only gave their feedback on the Supra development. But yes, the B58 is a solid motor nonetheless. I even think it’s better than the S58 in terms of performance, reliability and economy. So much cheaper to maintain and modify.
The M550i is really sweet, I believe it has the crazy fast 4.4 twin turbo V8. I’d still personally recommend the X3 M40i, of course because I’m biased but also I thinks it’s the best overall value especially in terms of reliability.
Thanks so much for the video, In the process of buying a 22 x3 M40i. Met with the finance guy to over the extended warranties (which they take away maintenance for the 2nd owner or $810 ). The cost of the extended warranties (any of them ) negated the cost of buying used. So your review being a owner I'm sure isn't light driving the engine has me comfortable still getting it. Question on brakes. one of the extended warranties coverered brakes/rotors and they were telling me because of the active rear suspension the rear brakes wear quickly. Did you have that issue and if so how much was the repair?
I don’t have the active suspension on my car. As for the brakes if the price there offering for the warranty is good, I’d take it. An independent shop will always be cheaper for brake pads and rotors. I took my my car to the dealer for front and rear pads and rotors and it cost around $2500, a painful mistake. 😂
My 530 x has active suspension, and the rear brakes do wear quickly , Dealer quoted $1,200 to replace the rear brakes. Local foreign car specialists, replaced for $ 800.
Hello: When you mentioned it burns a lot of oil, do you have to put oil periodically? I had a 2012 bmw x5 and it burns a lot of oil that i had to refill it every 4 weeks and it kind of a hassle. Thank you and hope to hear from you. Great review!
I would say it depends on how much you drive, for me I was adding some oil at least once every two months. It was annoying to keep checking but the car was so amazing, I didn’t mind. Thank you.
Enjoying your videos. Just curious how you find the air con? When I test drove it in the summer it seemed kinda noisy and had to work hard to cool the car unless on high. Thanks.
Thanks for watching my videos! Really appreciated! I definitely noticed that compared to other cars you have to turn the AC up higher to cool off the car.
Hey thanks for sharing this video. My daughter is fixing to turn 16 and we are looking at a car like this. The one we found is a 2019 x3 with 81k miles. Do you think that is too many?
That’s great to hear! From what I’ve been hearing, these cars will last a long time as long as they’re taken care of. 81K isn’t too many miles, I would just suggest checking the cars history to make sure that it was properly maintained.
