- Water being released to prevent Fontana Lake from flooding. Views from the top and bottom of the dam. Be patient...although tunnel 1 starts flowing first, it is rather unimpressive until after tunnel 2 gets up to speed.
Fontana Dam is the highest dam east of the Rocky Mountains at 480ft. When the flood gates are raised, spill water flows through two 34'-diameter tunnels that lead to the river below. The water is being released at over 100,000 gallons/second, traveling around 100mph at the bottom. The sprays are about 100ft tall. Наука
This was neat. I have not seen the dam from this angle and the water release. What strikes me most is knowing that the young voices I hear are now 9 years older and will have this memory forever.
Bless you folks.
those 9 year olds would be about 18 now. crazy how time flys
Legend has it this kid is still there asking questions
Fantastic video, one of the best that I’ve seen of a release.
Thank you for posting… a few years later of course! 🌻🇺🇦😂
Epic indeed. Great job with the video!
We camp there just about 200 yards downstream quite often. Beautiful place. I've never seen them spill water like that.
Thanks for filming this. Loved to see.
Went there one year and watch the water be released. It's so cool 😎!
Remember reading article some time ago where one the spill ways had extensive damaged from cavitation which destroyed the spillway, took engineers time to figure some solution to repair the spillway.
Great video!!! Never seen Fontana spilling.
Wow that is pretty cool awesome video there's like a wave of water coming out of the tunnel and then it makes like a big splash going into the river
Omgosh reverse cowboy boots 👢 🤣
Thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed that!!
Awesome video.
0:40 was that an otter on the rock lol
Wonderful
you can hear the kids mind being blown in real-time
Thanks for posting this . If you like spillway porn check out Digi De Rivaldis. It is a huge dam I believe is in the far north of Italy
I wonder how many CFM that is?
1 cubic foot contains approximately 7.431 gallons.
