I lived and worked on this ranch when I was a teenager. It was an amazing experience. The stallions were real Divas. Legionario was a difficult horse, a real rascal. But Capitano, the lesser prizewinner was a super intelligent animal and a real gentleman once he got to know you.
That is so cool. I could only imagine the fun you had working at the stables. The stallions are really great horses to work with, no matter what the breed. I’ve learned more from a stallion I had years ago they are more honest than a mare & 10 times more of a horse than a gelding. I really miss Harb.
Magnificent? They are tortured. Did you not notice how their heads are tied down, putting immense pain on the neck? Horses naturally raise their heads to spot predators . His method of training is absolutely cruel.
This is an old, old video. The kind of training where you have the horse lower its head to relax is something I only learned about 25 years ago. I don't think that kind of training was around then and I don't think that was the point of the horse's training in this video. If you're talking about the part with the long lines, it's a training session. You can't walk up to a horse and say, "I want you to prance in place today." You have to set the horse up so he can do what it is you want to teach him so he knows what to learn and have a successful training session. You also want him to learn to flex his neck and how to balance. Think of how ballerinas train. They have to learn to balance and how to flex their muscles before they can do the moves they do. If you took someone out and just tried to raise their leg over their head with no training, you'd hurt them. Muscles have to be worked and stretched. Think of how physical therapy works. Once the horse learns what's expected of him, someone can ride him and give the horse his cues for the things he's learned through the rider's legs, balance, and the bit. Look at the part where Dean is riding the horse. The horse is balanced and relaxed with the reins loose. And the horse's head is lowered with nothing holding it down, as far as I can see.

The Andalusians are the "Peacocks" of the horse world. Noble & Giving animals.. These horses are well trained. But Deans riding skills needed improvement.
