This was something I wish I could have addressed in the video. A pokemon and it's evolution were always loaded at the same time. The first form used tiles 1-49 and the second form always used tiles 50-99. This was done to be able to load both at once and have less unique files. In the end, I probably should have only loaded the one I needed at the specific time but oh well. The project was roughly a year of constantly interrupted work.
The physics is all done in Unity. The scene is set up to mirror the video as close as possible and I just screen capture it. Actually, the memory viewer part 2:22 was also done in Unity.
Thank you! No, the music is out of my skillset. For this game, I used free music created by krümel and previous games I've commissioned music by Scotty Rich.
This is incredible! I’m about to load it onto an everdrive and have a go. Thank you! Diablo 1 for Gameboy. That’s my dream demake. There’s actually a prototype rom out there from an early build that was scrapped! Check it out if you haven’t already!
Very nice work!
Why did you need to fit 2 pokemon portraits in vram at the same time at the start? Were you originally planning to have battles?

@@DistractedCoder makes sense!
Really interesting video! How did you do the physics-like text bouncing at 3:52? What that done through a game engine?

Wow, looks like a lot o work went into that. Kudos! Did you make the music yourself? That's always been a pain for me.
Thank you!
