This is my second time using your cooking method to cook rice and beans and it came out fabulous!. My mom actually sat down and ate a bowl of rice by itself and we are not rice people in our house. Through prayer and by using your method and watching a one other rice and beans video I actually understood the ratio water to rice method.... cause my rice was usually literally a hot mess. Now every grain is flavourful and not mushy . Thank you again and appreciate this video soooo much.
Hey Carmen. The water was brown because she used the water that was used to boil the beans. So, with regular water boiling with the beans, the water turns brown. Don't throw away the bean water after you boil the beans because you'll use that to put in the rice like she did. Love this video!
To help everyone, epise spices are added to a blender( every Haitian does it different), to name a few: garlic, onion plant diced, onions, green bell peppers, parsley, pepper, lemon juice(the one sold to marinate), Maggie(optional). Blend it all up n it may come out green, or red depending on your bell peppers. you can bottle up the remainder for nxt time. CAUTION: keep away from your eyes and hands. these spices are delicious but strong. ;-)

You should soak dried beans overnight before you boil them. The rice will taste better but I have used canned beans in a pinch for time. Just make sure not to boil the cooked beans too long or they will be mushy when you cook them with the rice. You can also do a quick boil method where you bring the dried beans to a fast boil, then turn the heat off and let the beans stand in the hot water for an hour before using them.

Looks heavenly! We can't go with that eating out of the hand. Get you a clean spoon, put it in the pot. take some broth out of the pot and eat away from the pot. LOL. We did this before the coronavirus pandemic. Now you must be extra cautious!!!. No food on body parts while cooking PLEASE Madame. Otherwise, I could eat about half of you delicious food. LOL🥰😍🥰

Thank you soooo much for this video. Im haitian and I know how to make meat but not rice. After watching this video I think Im ready. I'm going to try it today. Thanks
edelineestivenne everybody knows Haitians use black magic and voo doo and stir disgusting things into the food to keep their men. It is what it is, just letting people know if that. No need for disrespect though.
Wonderful video! thank you for sharing!!! The rice is gorgeous!!! I have specific questions about the type of rice you used because this is how I want my rice. (the extra long grain) I use jasmine rice and its shorter. Would you be able to share the exact rice that is used (brand, type-- like if it is jasmine or basamati--, and also if it is parboiled or regular.) If possible, can you take a picture of the packaging PLLEEAASEE!! LOL. thanks!!
PrincessOfTheYew Hi I made the Haitian Spice with a veggie maggi and it was really good. I will be making the rice tonight and yes a veggie maggi will be used.
If I don't have haitian spice, is there any store bought spice that might give a similar taste? I do plan on making the spice but I was just wondering. P.S. this is the best looking rice I have ever seen and I can't wait to make it. Thank you!
GorgBrownEyes Haha Thank you so much :) I hope you try this recipe soon, I'm sure you wont regret it!I don't think it will be a good idea for you to make this recipe without the spice, mainly for the reason that the spice gives the right taste.
Ayinofu Chinny Amala it's very easy, you need these basic ingredients, how much you put is up to your taste... you need garlic, green onions (not the dark green part) salt, Maggi, accent, mash into a paste or blend with a bit if oil...for meat same ingredients above with scotch bonnet pepper, some MOJO, this is pretty much your base to add anything else you want. ..hope this helps
If you are a press for time, go to your local Hispanic Market and buy what they call Sofrito. Its good but may be missing the vinegar and or citron that most Hatian people add. Me personally, I use: 2-3 Garlic 1 Yellow Onion 1 Green Bell Pepper 2-3 Green Onions 1-2 teaspoons Black Pepper 2-3 Tbsp Vinegar 1 Bonnet Pepper or Red Chilli Powder 2-3 tsp Pink Salt (Substitute for Maggie) I hope this helps. You can add your own flavors but this is what I use as my epice.
it is strange how food can surface up in other places this rice a peas combination is found in Guyana Nigeria this dish definitely has an African origin
Omg that rice looks so delicious in definitely making this as part oft meal. Can I use can cream of coconut milk and is it supposed to be sweet or unsweetened coconut cream. What kind of beans are those ? Are they dried soaked beans or are they can beans rinsed. Thank you for sharing this video.

LOL🥰😍🥰

Haitian food is so ridiculously good man 😭😭😭😭
U cook?
Autumn Lewis the women use the blood from the menstrual cycle which is they're dirty blood, they cook with it how disgusting!
edelineestivenne everybody knows Haitians use black magic and voo doo and stir disgusting things into the food to keep their men. It is what it is, just letting people know if that. No need for disrespect though.
Forever MCFC getting angry is not going to cure your ignorance my friend 😶😯!
Forever MCFC lol Electric 9 sounds like a hater. You must don't know how to cook or a haitian woman broke your heart😂
The Rice and Peas look nice. I have to try to make this thanks for the recipe.
LOL. thanks!!
thank-you so much for explaining this recepie ! God bless you☺
@Jennifer Midy The Stove should be on medium heat.
Hi! Could I use a vegetable maggi instead of a chicken one?
PrincessOfTheYew Hi I made the Haitian Spice with a veggie maggi and it was really good. I will be making the rice tonight and yes a veggie maggi will be used.
PrincessOfTheYew
Quick question should i soak the beans down overnight.
If you like :) the beans will cook a lot faster.

Thankyou for sharing im a haitian american & i needed this. My grandparents dont cook anymore 😢
GorgBrownEyes You can go to Publix sometime they have mixture spice, but it may not have that haitian taste. Make your own its really easy!
please how can one make the spice at home?
Ayinofu Chinny Amala it's very easy, you need these basic ingredients, how much you put is up to your taste... you need garlic, green onions (not the dark green part) salt, Maggi, accent, mash into a paste or blend with a bit if oil...for meat same ingredients above with scotch bonnet pepper, some MOJO, this is pretty much your base to add anything else you want. ..hope this helps
If you are a press for time, go to your local Hispanic Market and buy what they call Sofrito. Its good but may be missing the vinegar and or citron that most Hatian people add. Me personally, I use:
2-3 Garlic
1 Yellow Onion
1 Green Bell Pepper
2-3 Green Onions
1-2 teaspoons Black Pepper
2-3 Tbsp Vinegar
1 Bonnet Pepper or Red Chilli Powder
2-3 tsp Pink Salt (Substitute for Maggie)
I hope this helps. You can add your own flavors but this is what I use as my epice.
Thx for sharing I'm really wanting to learn the legume recipe
Please the name of the bean you used. Thanks
Aminat Adewunmi kidney beans
