I like it when my pallet gets messy, I think it looks really pretty and shows how long I've had it and how much I've done
Burt Macklin over the garden wall!

Leaving paint brushes in water ruins them..........
*Runs to take paint brushes out of the water that are already ruined*
Lonely Island SAME i was so scared because i was like “i already ruined them.....”
hahahahha me too
I didn't know that too. I had to paint for a college project and left them there for about a month bc I forgot them. One of them was totally ruined, but the rest seems ok (even though I am now worried)
same!
Lol same
I only watched this for the paintbrush-soap technique but some of them were helpful

Oof same
yeah same i saw the thumbnail and i was like: I NEED to know how to fix my brushes like that!

It would be so uncomfortable to to mix paint on plastic film
bikash das plus it’s really bad for the environment - you use it once on one day and it will pollute the environment for 1000 years and then break down into micro plastics and get into the food chain
For acrylics, I actually use a plastic ice cream lid and just scrape off the paint. I also have a video about scraping the paint if you wanna check it out :)
For acrylic I use tin foil instead of plastic. More rigid, and conforms well to pallet. I also use a fine spray myster to give the surface a light spay of water before putting paints down. This will keep the paint from drying as fast. Through working every now, and then I give the top of pallet, and paints this same light myst of water to keep paints wet.
@@mollysnook7625 guess who has been pouring turps down the drain?
ME!!!!
my art class required us to do that lol. if you pull it really taut, it's a bit more comfortable.
Hey guys! I'm so happy you find this video helpful! It would be awesome if you could help me translating this video in other languages, so people can understand what I'm talking about! You can submit subtitles in the languages you know here: ruclips.net/user/timedtext_video?v=NqDXKm7WbRI&ref=share Thank you so so much guys for your support!
makoccino yes talk about pen and use markers
makoccino what about bangla
i love ur accent
Ayesha Akter yaaa
makoccino this is brilliant 🙌
OMG. hacks that don't require you to spend the same amount of money that it would take to buy those fancy art supplies! GENIUS. thank you so much especially for the brush renewing tip!
for the light box, I usually just get a shoe box, put a flashlight inside and then put the glass from a picture frame on top of it. it's easy to assemble/unassemble!
A see through box that you use for example christmastree ornaments...make sure you make small hole in the corner then use a lampand close lid. That or put a flashlight in the box,no cutting of box needed in that way! But he the fairylights would also do or a strip of ledlights...
Thanks for the tips!
Can I use dishsoap for my brush or handsoap thats liquid?
Abby Stevens Hope you don’t mind if I try to help with your question about the soap. I’d say no. The waxiness of the bar of soap is needed.
We did it guys... we found a life hack channel with ACTUAL life hacks

Haha... this was my thought exactly.
No it's not tbh
i like to let is dry and peel it off. much more satisfying that way
Link The Hero of Time Haha
Link The Hero of Time , It wouldn't come off for me
1:46 then why even use the pallet? Just put the cling rap on the table...
It will follow those shapes into the palette giving the paint appropriate distance and it would hold the cling rap more firmly
imagine how uncomfortable it’ll be to paint on cling film
its really bad for the environment tho..
@@iyla3742 armys r always right lmao @_Taelite_
@@sara-qh7bv well I've had an idea, you can wash it and let it dry and reuse it again!
“Have you ever want to trace a sketch to a new peice of paper but you don’t have a big computer screen, nor a bright window you can use because you’re basically only awake at night?” Loved that line 😂 (5:16)
So reatable 😂
First, thank you Mako, these tips are super useful and second, I use a ceramic plate as my acrylic/oil palette, it's super easy to clean up, in case you haven't tried that; and you can also use hair gel for brushes instead of soap 😊
Awesome tip!! Thank you for sharing!
Bárbara León these were so good. thankss 😉
Wut? You all know so much and here i come like a noob.
Bárbara León ĺ999999900òòooòp90
Bárbara León The hair gel tip is great!!!! God bless!
I use the bar soap trick all the time on my brushes and it really does work.... thanks for sharing.
Dawn Lueders
Is just any bar of soap or a specific one?
Zote works well...you can get it where the fabric/washing detergents are
I just used my oil of olay bar soap.
I use a natural bar of soap I got at a farmers market. My brushes stay clean and straight, o yeah, dry with bristles down. One bar for $5 has lasted over a year. I got a travel soap dish to store it by my sink so I remember to only use it for my brushes. LOVE IT.
Dawn Lueders do u have to rinse it later tho liek what if I use watercolor is it gonna get sudsy or is this just an acrylic hack. Also do u do this after every use
For the lightbox trick: I usually take my school binder (of course it needs to be a plastic see through one and not the ones with the cardboard cover) and put my phone inside the cover with the flash light on, then put the paper sheets on top. It works really well and it’s one of the simplest solutions I’ve come up with
"Because you're only awake at night?"
Hello, fellow nocturnal person!!
😂
Me watching at 1:34 am:
Same!
For the light box i literally just took a container and put my phone under it with the flashlight on.
Its only been 3 days there's too many likes!! Thank u all ;-;
What a smart idea!
Andrea Mikoda OMG I did that too!
Same.
Andrea Mikoda you are the best love u from Samantha💖💖💖
Andrea Mikoda a "container"?
I use wax paper as a palette for painting with oils and acrylics so I can easily clean up (plus it's a bit sturdier than cling film!) 😁
Ccinee11 Foil also works nicely. I've used the wax paper too.
Just My Thoughts I've never used foil as a palette before, maybe I'll try it someday! 😀
Ccinee11 It's actually really nice.
I use it an it works incredibly well. Super easy to use too

If every youtube video was like that one (short but helpful), life would be so much easier.
My fave: the binder clip on side of water jar to dry used brushes. fyi, to make a brush holder I glued together 2 foam pedicure toe separators (from beauty supply store).
I have been out of drawing for months. But u helped me get back in! Thanks! Love uuu

I don't understand who would not like a helpful short video clip like this?
You are so nice to tell us these great tips!
I think thousands of people have said this already but I'll say it once again:D, thanks so much for the soap and brush technique, and the hack for keeping brushes not dipped in water! But about using the plastic film as a palette...I don't think that's very eco friendly, especially if you paint often.
Genius!
The light box would be a lovely wall hanging/light too, especially with a painting behind the fairy lights.
Yes! It's 2 hacks in one
1: u get a lightbox!
2: ANDD u get an adorable piece to put on your wall!
I love a couple of the tips that you showed. The reshaping of the brush and the binder clip on the edge of the water bottle so they can drain down. I have a little add on tip with the ribbons. If you wrap it around a piece of card board and you don't have anymore clips or a stick pin, then you can just cut a slit in the card board next to the wrapped ribbon and slide the end of the ribbon in the slit. It will not move!! Thanks for the hacks!
Kat F Great tip!
Yes, I liked the brush holder clip idea too. I have various size clips too so I might try that .
Thank you so much for the binder clips brush holder idea! You just saved me some cash! I knew you should dry brushes with the tip pointed down, with water dripping AWAY from the ferrule. I just couldn't find a workable solution without buying a stand. What an ingenious idea. Keep'em coming. I really learn from you! Thanks again 😃😃😃
Aww that's awesome! I'm so happy these tips came in handy!
Hey, don't toss the top of that water bottle, invert it in the bottom and wash your brushes and the pugment fragments will fall to the bottom leaving cleaner water in the inverted part...
Brushes should not be left in water AGREE, so get some floral styrofoam and punch the brush handle in to leave your brushes dry, also you can make brush holders the same way to sort your different brushes...

That's supposed to say pigments 😲sorry

@@abbystevens5693 I can get more brushes in styrofoam, I don't have an ashtray...
Me: Hello grandmother, would you like some cookies from this cookie tin?
Grandma: (opens cookie tin and sees whats inside) I see.
Me: hurts doesnt it ÒwÓ
I really should try the soap fixing brush thing. But i honesly do not own a soap bar...
You can also use Vaseline! Someone mentioned hair gel works too!
makoccino so with Vaseline, you just do the same thing too? Damp brush, rub some on and wash it off when it's dried?
I use a tiny amount of moisturizer and it also works. I do this whenever my paintbrush and nail art brush start to worn out.
You may just use shampoo, it also works.
Soraya Kamarullah lol me either 😂
Just bought two expensive Da Vinci- Brushes that I kinda had to hand over for an important wallpaint job (noone of my colleques exept me had that tiny brushes ). So basically after the first use they were a bitt ruff, and I thought I had to buy new ones, because I originally wanted to use them for detailed models, props and moulages. I now tried the hack with the soap, and I am so exited how this turns out! Well I have to whait until the brushes are dry, but they already look like new again. Thank you so much for the tip :-)

I really REALLY liked the suggestion to get your paint brushes back in shape. Haven't tried it yet, but, am going to soon as I have quite a few paint brushes which are outta whack. Thank you for sharing that tip, especially, but, all your tips are really worth trying....will also be using the water bottle cut off for rinsing my brushes in!!! 💗
The trick with the brushes and re-shaping them was pretty helpful. I'll have to use that for my older brushes. Just remember to use conditioner when you use that.
Here's some art hacks:
1: Use hair conditioner on your brushes every few uses. Keeps them good for longer, and can even make a crappy brush good.
2: Clean your palates when you're done. Simple common sense. Clean up your messes, and you won't have a problem.
3: Organize things from the beginning. A tight ship is a happy ship, as they say.
4: Keep a knife in your art kit. you know what they say, a good knife has a thousand and one uses!
5: Keep 120 grit sandpaper in your art kit. Sometimes the best pencil sharpener is an abrasive personality!
4:07 - 4:20 i flipped out and quickly took my brushes out the water they were soaking in 😂😂

I NEVER comment on youtube.... but I was so grateful for one of the tips that I wanted to say thanks. Coincidentally today I was wishing I had a lightbox for tracing and while not looking for it, came across this video. I love this idea of the frame with fairy lights!! Such a creative and economical solution. Thanks :D

The cling wrap one is absolutely horrid lmao
@Sam M | I’ve seen another comment about how it’s not environmentally friendly. Don’t just comment something rude, laugh at it and not explain yourself. 🤦♀️ I’d like to hear what you have to say.
@Preniya Shah it's not environmentally friendly and its seems uncomfortable to mix colours on but then again this video is like 3 years old so I'm going to give it some slack

The soap to model the brush was a life saver! Thanks!
I have a good tip : If want your colours to be smooth on paper and flow with your brush in the paper you can actually use soap (liquid) .Just mix very little amount of liquid soap into the paint and watch the result.....it will super smooth 🙂☺☺😊😊😊

masking tape around charcoal or pastels-game changer. Also shallow reusable plastic sandwich container with vitamin lids glued to the bottom . . . my new paint saver. Thank you. Oh and play doh! Perfect!
I recently discovered a hack. I like using alcohol to blend coloured pencils (I'm asthmatic so can't use solvents) but the colourless blenders end up getting stained. My hack is to use a waterbrush pen and fill it with rubbing alcohol. Works like a dream, and easy to clean
More hacks plz!
I always use my plastic bottles as water holder! :D
And I use aluminum foil or baking paper as my pallettes :P
So clever!!
Estelle I've used baking paper over a damp paper towel as a stay wet palette for acrylics. I also used the foil in the manner of the cling wrap sometimes.
