Stoopidest idea ever would be a beer refrigerator under a seat. Still gotta get up for another beer. Next to the driver's seat makes so much more sense. Keeps the captain at the wheel. Too many accidents happen when the captain has to go all the way below to get a beer.
Shocked 😲 I alway thought your tanks would be pre-fabricated plastic, incredible. I cannot imagine the amount of tigh space bonding and fiberglassing your doing now.
Not shown in a video, but I (Jessica) got to go back into the space under the transom to glass the hull side and the transom together at the flange - from the inside! THAT was a tight space. lol 😱
It is great to see the nice shiny white bits going in. Starting to look a lot more attractive. Talking about looking attractive, Jessica, don't be shy to wear your glasses on channel. Guys love girls in glasses! I am impressed with you making the water tanks part of the structure. I would not have thought of that. Great idea for strength combined with lightness. Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus cars, was a great advocate of building in lightness (or saving weight). I know catamarans are very different from sports/racing cars. But the same principle applies. Lighter makes more speed and maneuverability. Looking good.
Yes, two of the big reasons we chose to build our own water tanks in is to save weight (using our foam cored fiberglass), and the fact they are now a structural item, adding even more strength to the foredeck. 😃 - Jessica
Hello. I am a guy from Sweden who likes boats very much, I think I have plowed through all the youtubers who live on the sea or build boats including you. I think you do an absolutely fantastic job of taking on the task of building such a large and "luxurious" boat. I am renovating small motor and rowing boats, this winter I am also building a small mini electric boat 8feet. I wait all the time until you release new episodes :) continue with your fantastic job / Robert "Lapp84"
Have you tried using the back of a spoon to make the coves? Also may I suggest installing valves at the bottom of the tanks themselves. Instead of running the pumps to flush the tank, just open the valve to drain. Wish my boat had them installed.
Looking great guys, nice sneaky peak of the front with Jess sitting there.Had a laugh with Rossco when he mentioned some Americans wearing ice vests to work in the heat🤪🤪🤪🤙🏼🤙🏼🇦🇺 keep the videos rolling guys.
I like the idea of building your own water tank. That way you get what you want and you get it where you want. Tell us about that special USA approved epoxy you will use on the inside.
You guys are killing it. Boat looks so close to seaworthy. Let's send her off and hope it floats? Just joking. Happy to see you 2 happy to build your future home. It's gonna be awesome !!!
I like the "angry bee saw". The multi tool / vibra-saw sounds like a bee. Those tools are so infinitely useful from detail sanding to flush trimming. Back in the late seventies as a little one I remember finding my grandfather's electric coping saw. It was a coping saw with a transformer on it. I don't recall what or how the vibration was caused. It buzzed at lower frequency than the multi tool, a not so angry bee.
If you don't mind, I'd suggest, that you take some masking tape and put it on the edges and corners to protect all those venerable areas. They can be damaged so easily when your doing assembly. I just think its a wise thing to do. Cheers. Obtw and leave them on until your done the majority of the work.
It’s amazing how a couple of cockpit components can change then look of the build. So far they look like they will be really comfortable to sit have cup of coffee/tea in the morning or have a cold beverage on a hot day. Something tells me that you will be spending many, many hours in that area when you get out on the water full time. Once again, nice work!
Thank you so much!! Yes, we're hoping to get A LOT of use from the cockpit once we're in the water. We also love the fact that the doors will open the entire way between those two bulkheads, giving us an amazing view from inside as well.
I've only been watching your channel since the start of this build and it's been so great watching you really evolve your skill set with this build and how far you've come since then. Obviously if you weren't filming you would be a lot further into the build but thank you for filming and sharing the process with us. Oh and measure twice, cut once. Measure once, cut twice. ✂️
Again showing your talent, most would have purchased ready made water tanks, but knowing you that is not adequat. Building your own gives what you want. Great job!
It's more than that, ready made water tanks can need to be secured well which adds more weight and gives you smaller tanks as they never fit perfectly, so what they did is the most sensible thing to do, they already have the material and skills needed, it's the lightest, strongest a least dangerous way to create tankage.
@@pekkasvinhufvud5215 I'm guessing English is not your first language, so so I'm at a slight advantage there, but your English is excellent and I wouldn't have thought about it if not for your second comment, so hold your head high 👍🏼
Always fun to see another significant piece go in and things looking more and more like the final boat. Thanks for the explanations. Still very impressed that you all don't have any (apparent) bumps and bruises from walking under things, sideways on things, backwards on things, all while carrying big cumbersome shapes and pieces, and crab walking with multiple coordinated bodies. Nice job demo-ing the Jackery. They need to hire Jessica!
Great to see your tape measure in action, good ole metric. Seriously you guy’s are making a fantastic job of your Cat she’s coming along nicely and looking really good. Cheers from Southwest England 🏴
My wife listens to channels that I listen to, in passing, and noticed you guy's uploads on Sundays! She asked me today if I had watched 'those crazy people building their own boat yet?'! So, while you she is not going to be a subscriber she is a fan!
Love watching you two work together on this build. Non sailors have no idea just how HUGH a 42 cat actually is although they can get a general idea watching yours come together! Looking forward to the next - and next - -ad infinitum episodes. Just be safe and continue to love life.
Keep tuning in for the next few episodes - we're about a month behind real time now, but have since managed to get the decks and windows on as well! 😃😍
It's really going to be transforming quickly now all the bones are in place. We really start to see a real perspective now, it's just like when I built my house when it's all frame it's really hard not to just see a building site and lots of frame but as soon as the sheet rock starts to go on you immediately notice the defined spaces and how it will flow and look and hopefully everything and more you envisioned it to be
Great job you 2. The satisfaction you 2 will have when this project is done is unexplainable. Keep pushing on and enjoy every moment of it. One day when you look back it’ll feel like it when so quickly. Lots of love 👏🏻👏🏻
Never have I been so excited for a channel to post I saw that clip of the layout/blueprint and oh my lanta so excited I’ve got my own boat projects and I’m way more interested in yours 😭
I'm glad I started watching from the start because it makes the progress you have made stand out more.... you are SO smart to take your time and not rush things so you don't have regrets later.... I look forward to the day of the splash!!!!
Thank you so much for following along from the beginning of the build! ❤ That is right, we are in no rush to finish ASAP - we'd much rather things take a little longer and have a vessel we completely trust. 😍
This is Awesome, I have been with you since all the pieces were delivered. I really enjoy watching how you are doing such a complex project. Thank You for the videos! Look forward to more. Can't wait until you put here in the water. Thanks again :):)
A nice idea for baffles is to fill the space with upright plastic tubes from home depot (say 150 to 200 mm diameter) close to each other. No more slashing at all.
I saw at the end both seats where onboard I was wondering why Jessica said this is our Starboard seat then you were placing it on the port side LOL :-)
I like the pace of this build. I follow and enjoy a few other boat builds, but pace is more "micro-steps" rather than the quantum leaps that you make each week.
You’re always going to make quantum leaps when using pre fabricated sections. Foe an accurate total time build you need to include the factory fabrication time too. There’s a hell of a lot of blood sweat and tears that have happened before all the pieces were put into sea containers. Nice work per usual people!.
You should have all exposed gel coated finished areas well protected from foot traffic. The transom steps should have a 1/8" plywood sheeting taped down.
Wow, those are not huge pieces, but what a difference they make in the look of the project. It's to the point now where you'll be running out of room inside the boat!
Loving this build series way more than I expected I would! Started watching just before you left Indiantown w/ Elements and thought this was gonna be dull viewing, boy was I wrong! Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next episodes. BTW, is there someway to plan a quick meet? I've got a Christmas gift I'd like to drop off, but I'd hate to drive over to Kent Narrows to find out you're in VA or MI...
Thank you so much for following along with the build!! If you shoot us an email (admin@mjsailing.com), we can let you know what our schedule is. Although we should be at the marina during working hours for the next few weeks. 🙂
You guys are doing a great job and very impressive work. On a personal note in todays EP213 episode Matt doesnt look well at all with dark circles around his eyes. With all the chemicals and long hours I was just concerned that you guys are watching your health. I know a bit personal but double back to this episode and see what I mean in front end scenes.
Great job guys,,. A question, two after tanks are part of the ballast? Because 120gallons seams like a lot of weight to be carrying around with water makers to fill them up. Maybe it is because I am use to 2 x150 liters tanks.
