@@tristain0 They're both based on the original pre animation colour scheme, there are few details on what it was supposed to look like prior to studio interference other than it was pretty much all white. That's why Zeon call it the white devil throughout the early episodes.
Same here. The Origin Gundam is such a really good kit. Though to be honest, getting it as my first kit kind of spoils me since I expect other kits to be as good.
Honestly speaking I very much prefer this kit over the standard release. Don't get me wrong, the Origin Gundam is an awesome re-imagining of the original, but I feel like several of the design changes and choices just makes it feel too big/bulky all the while keeping the toyetic colors. This balance of white, grey and red actually helps the design more, especially with the rabbit ear antennae and no traditional V-Fin.
Agreed. The orginalRX-78's colors were designed to appeal to children under the age of 10. Discerning adults and warriors alike are looking for more mature colors.
Ooh, I like the antenna set-up on this! I have the G-Armor version of this design, but was unaware of its origin. But said G-Armor is just a repaint of the non-Origin RX-78-1, so it has the conventional V fin, but in silver with a red center.

The Orgin line has some of the best High Grade builds in it. Char's Zaku 2 was an experience that I never thought I'd enjoy so much on a HG! Highly recommend any of that line to anyone that has not built one yet

Certainly my next purchase. When I read the original Gundam novewl they describe the Gundam as being white and when I saw the HCM Pro roll out colors - which seems to be the basis for this color scheme - to me it was the RX78 from the book.
I've never really liked the standard Gundam colours and the Grandaddy always looks better in white or greyscale (probably because that's what it was designed to have) but I think the hero suit that gets it the worst is Barbatos. It has this incredibly aggressive, angular design that just screams killing machine and it's painted in bright primary colours, it's like the Punisher suddenly decided to dress up like Spiderman.
Well since it's called the Roll Out Colours i think these were the intended combat colours for the Gundam once it was mass produced. The blue, red & yellow we're all familiar with was just some flashy colours to show of the Gundam to the... backers? funders? There's a word i'm looking for but it's escaping me... Basically the Gundam colours as we know them were purely for demonstration. I think it's all based on what's done with aircraft. Bright colours when showing off the vehicle to the board but plain colours once it's actually deployed.
This was the RX-78-1 that shows up in the first few pages of The Origin manga, and it's actually the brother unit of the RX-78-2. It gets destroyed by the Zaku team.

I felt that the PB tax for this kit in my area is a lot, so I hesitated for a long time before eventually picking it up (esp when I have the standard kit). I highly recommend it! The colours work so well with the kit. And I absolutely love the new head design. It is what I imagine the white devil would look like
PB is a lot in general. The business model can be a turn off. I got the RX-7800 and the Dodai Kai in 1/144 and shipping boosted the cost by 50%.Some stuff should be regular releases as they sell out so quick and taxes and shipping rack up. The pandemic scalping doesn’t help either. Even stuff like the old RGM-79 HG goes for $40+ on places like Amazon. As for this kit they should have given the option for different antennas instead of a commanding 50$ before shipping. I hope in time the pricing model is adjusted post Covid as Gundam here in the US is noticeably more expensive and harder to get.

In my experience it's even worse for things like Robot Damashii figures, many of which tend to sell out in spite of their ridiculous pricing, primarily because scalpers know they can make an even bigger profit later on. I only have one Granddaddy Gundam. The Origin version. This P-Bandai kit should be a good deal for those already in possession of the base kit, if they want the base kit to have dual shoulder cannons, instead of buying two base kits. One of them could do dual rifles with the bigger rifle variant, while the other could do double bazooka.
Does this mean that the decals sheet that this kit and the main RX-78-02 Origin kit come with are in fact peel-and-apply style stickers or are they waterslide decals?

I tend to agree with our man Mecha Gaikotsu like 88% of the time. The most times i don't agree with him are mostly about the stickers. I understand putting them on kills alot of time for him when it comes to making his videos and all but alot times (i believe anyways) ive heard him say that he feels they affect the kits aesthetics and appearance to him and when the stickers comes to situations where they affect color separation or has something to do with the color separation i noticed hes usually say that they should have / or could have just done it with the parts instead. BUT ive noticed (being as how i have a good amount of kits hes covered on his channel and going back and watching those ones to make sure i wasnt crazy and just thought hes gone on about these things, i looked the kits over woth their stickers all in place on them vs his comments about some of them) that alot of those parts couldnt be done by just having that area just be a diff colored part, most of the time because of the placements adding a new part to these areas wouldn't make any sense and would either overcomplicate the part or get in the way. The kits build the way they for reasons. The stickers add that extra flair that otherwise wouldn't be there on a flat plastic surface lol and when you take the time to put them on, most of the time, i find that it tends to click in my mind afterwards that " okay yeah i see why they had these go where they are and why" a kit never feels quite complete until ALL the manuals instructions on its construction are complete to be honest. BUT while i sit here and defend stickers (whom i know a few people personally whom absolutely hate stickers and a few people who genuinely like them as well, as ive come to learn) My personal preferred final details are usually custom painting done in place of then, while looking good from a distance usually stickers look great but up close depending on the color and plastic of your gunpla the edges are always visible and depending of those factors, they tend to show more on certain types than others. Albeit its the same with mold lines on a kit or nub marks that are tricky to clean up and never quite go how it should therefor leaving a noticable mark on your kit (again unless youve cleaned them all up and then painted the kit then you wont have to worry about ANY nub marks, scuffs or, scratches. Hell alot of times even them dam mold lines if its a permanently posed kit but those are all a different story) so basically what im trying to say is, if its going to be straight out of the box and your building it with once its built, posed, and pictured, then its going on the shelf and onto the next one. Id always sticker it up with what it comes with (some kits admittedly have a few to many and like MG has said , its starts getting to clustered, then even i will skip a few just to make it make sense again, but if your a perfectionist and like to give your kits the attention they deserve then i say go with a good solid cleanup of the nubs, do what you need to do about mold lines, panel line it up, tighten up anything that may need it, glue what shouldnt move or fall off so that they dont (i.e HG chars zaku IIs left shoulder armor spikes or its helmets horn) give it all the love, and dont do the stickers that can be painted instead. Painting and detailing gunpla will always, ALWAYS look better in every aspect. They tend to look like they have a good sense of professionalism to them as well. So yeah theres my pointless rant people are going to get mad at me for for one reason or another thinking im calling our lord and saviour Mecha Freaking Gaikotsu out on something likened to fraudulence or tax evasion or something but im not. I just noticed he doesnt like stickers to much or something similar to that and i think they are a pretty essential part to the kits thats all. I wish he would give them a chance every now and then because they end up tying your build together just that one step furthur once you slap them on after you've finished building it. I usually find it very satisfactory feeling once ive had it built and getting that extra bit of satisfaction with the stickers very nice lol Also note that i am no artist by any means so i tend to 100% of the time just build and sticker because i cannot paint for the life of me, but my friend in the hobby is damn good and therefor ive spent alot of time seeing the processes, and learning a gunpla painter's motives and reasoning for not using nearly as many stickers and painting them on instead. So yeah.
Answer: This supposed “Gundam Roll out” does not exist, this version of the gundam is basically what the Origin 78-2 would like straight off the production line and waiting on paint (the same goes for other Rollout stuff, like the Gerbera tetra and Guncannon first type)

Even for MGs, only the Ver Kas and a handful others got waterslides. So you'll have to get them separately for this as usual. The Pbandai label is the thing thats makes me hate these kits. Being only available to 10 countries, it's a big middle finger to us the rest of the world....
@@gtanusetiawan Yeah, I was speaking of PBandai MGs all coming with waterslides, with none for HGs or RGs. I don't expect them in standard releases, any time you get them in those it's a bonus. We just got PBandai here in the US in the last couple years, before that it was 2-3x the price, so I feel you. The worst part is, awesome kits like the MG Mk V and F90 would sell out as regular releases, and it sucks that they'll be so hard to find for so many.
I feel like I should point out that the origin versions of these mobile suits use slightly different model numbers to differentiate them. For instance this is not the RX-78-2 it is the RX-78-02 Gundam.
i wonder what's the lore of this gundam, the origin prototype (local type) already got v-fin even for its yellow roll-out type, and then its become twin radio antenna and back to v-fin

Using the 3 antennas, the RX-78-2 Rollout was able to find the exact location of the person who asked.
I bought the HGUC RX-78-2 Origin in my very first Gunpla order and I am still incredibly impressed with it. It's a brilliant kit.

You can get waterslides instead of the stickers, I did that for this kit as well as the Origin Zakus I’ve built, looks a million times better

The Pbandai label is the thing thats makes me hate these kits. Being only available to 10 countries, it's a big middle finger to us the rest of the world....
@@gtanusetiawan Yeah, I was speaking of PBandai MGs all coming with waterslides, with none for HGs or RGs. I don't expect them in standard releases, any time you get them in those it's a bonus. We just got PBandai here in the US in the last couple years, before that it was 2-3x the price, so I feel you. The worst part is, awesome kits like the MG Mk V and F90 would sell out as regular releases, and it sucks that they'll be so hard to find for so many.

I feel like I should point out that the origin versions of these mobile suits use slightly different model numbers to differentiate them. For instance this is not the RX-78-2 it is the RX-78-02 Gundam.

Only thing I’m not fond of on the Origin version are the bordered chest vents, the rest is phenomenal.
the head unit makes me think of the Ez-8 but has the antennas mounted on both sides of the head instead of just one side of the Ez-8. 🐰
i wonder what's the lore of this gundam, the origin prototype (local type) already got v-fin even for its yellow roll-out type, and then its become twin radio antenna and back to v-fin

Btw after applying the v-fin it resemble the fa rx-78 color scheme
Other thing:
It would be easier to rank future kits if we had a base-line for the standard in silver tier e.g. for hg gunplas it would be better if we use the standard version of the hg rx-78 as the base-line for ranking
Does anyone on here know if that Tamiya Mark Setter stuff works on sticker style decals? I have some for a kit , but haven't applied them yet out of concern they'll look terrible

I personally like a combo. Black for true panel lines that would be gaps between the armor, and grey for smaller lines and details.
