I know the lateral RUclips channel doesn't get the kind of views that Tom's other work does, but I'm so glad that the team have figured out the best format for this platform by having single question videos!
I'm actually curious if the podcast itself gets more views (listens?) than these outtakes. I personally prefer to have the shorter videos with the added visual from face cams.
if they didn't post so many videos on the youtube i'd listen to the podcasts. As it is now, it seems there's only like 1 or 2 questions per episode that don't make the cut, so trying to listen and skip through is a real pain.
I wish they continued with the full episodes. They did it at the start for the first (and maybe second) episode but stopped. It didn't get enough views and was too much effort to edit it.
Early thumbnails were on occasion spoilery, I am glad they were able to steer away from that. But now I guess they are spoilers, in that we can rely on the fact they are the wrong answer... 🤔
My son is a hugger. He will gladly hug any random person for no real reason at all. This is especially true for Disney Princesses. We had to peel him off a few when we visited Disney. And no, they didn't let go until he did.
My favorite part was when Tom started mentioning cruise ships and Melissa was like “go on” and then when Sabrina jumped in with a Titanic reference Melissa just immediately dropped her head in disappointment
She could have really confused them by saying they were really close at that point, and they would have fixated on sharks in giant balls of water roaming around on land. :)
The more i listen to this series, the more i find the guests are a big part of why this works. The questions are really good but the guests are better. Great concept by Tom and his crew. :D
This is not technically a rule. It’s a guideline but not a rule. Tom’s factoid at the end is real but also that happens with character performers on their training shifts. If you ever see a character next to a random wall or gate, they are having their first outing. They are near a door so they can escape quickly if something goes wrong
I haven't seen any of Sabrina's videos, but I love her attitude in these. I think I'm gonna check her out later. This podcast / videocast is a great way to introduce youtubers to new audiences...
Definitely one of my favourite questions in the podcast. Really clever, everybody was really far from the answer, required a LOT of lateral thinking after the initial guesses.
That's a great question. That's one of the best I've seen on lateral. I wasn't anywhere near the answer and the reveal was so satisfying. I'll be stealing this one for the pub.
Whoah i was just binging episodes because i only learned this podcast existed yesterday, and then this pops up right after I subscribe. Brilliant timing
i dont think its timing, its google knowing what you are interested in, and recommending that thing. even if you use nothing related to google, they know what you are doing in the internet
@@bj.a.j. that would be relevant if it were a recommended video, but this was in my sub feed uploaded 1 minute ago after I decided I was done binging, subbed and then went straight to sub feed.
in the entire episode, really; from start to end he made the most of the show (but also he is the only one of the three who actively watches quiz shows ((he is the one who asked to be on the show)) so it would make sense)
I actually totally already knew the answer, but it wasn't until after Taha's arm wrestling bit that it actually came back to me that I already knew it. That was a good question Edit: Apparently everyone on the crew had about the same experience I did lol
I think I know this one because I've heard it before. . spoilers obviously . . . It's Disney characters when a kid wants a hug. You have no idea how much the kid might need the hug and reassurance so letting go first could be upsetting.
Why did I instantely start thinking about the rope thing on aircraft carrier that catches the plane, and then they also started thinking the same thing. It's not in any way related to question, how did that happen. I'm weirded out.
I know this one, it's Disney's cast members at Disneyland or Disney Cruises. When they hug kids, they are not allowed to let go of the hug unless the kid lets go first.
There actually _are_ multiple people playing some characters (such as Mickey) at the same park, and they have to carefully coordinate their movements to ensure that nobody can see two of them at the same time.
Unfortunately this is not true. It’s just an internet rumor. I even checked with a Cast Member today to make sure I’m not wrong. I still love Lateral, though!!!
Initial thoughts: I went straight to nuclear weapon usage: trained occupation, specialised role, highly-limited locations, ... military commanders of ICBM sites and Air Force bases for land, and SSBN/SLBM for sea. And "letting go first" would mean "striking first with such weapons"; (well except that one time in Japan... long story...).
2:20 : Nothing to do with safety..., and no direct remarks on the military aspect... . It seems my nukes guess is astray. As Geralt would say: "Hmmph..."
5:25 Don't start laughing, or break character, first in a performance group? Don't break improv or 4th wall. And the locations are the "stages" all over the world? But that feels way too vague and generic.
I thought it was tandem skydiving instructors for the longest time until the "it's not done in the air" part was said. That's probably also kind of true for them, but not for this question!
Spoilers: I guess that this must still apply if you are just a random costumed mascot. But the whole 'don't let go first thing' I have come across a costumed character that didn't do that. Ok 5 year old me did kind of accidentality knock it's head off... I'm still terrified of mascots to this day.

“Release a shark in Disneyland” The slight smirk Melissa had at that line was amazing
But in a giant hamster ball so it can swim around safely.

I love that Sabrina kept talking about things that can be EXCLUSIVELY done in the ocean. Despite being repeatedly told it was also on land.
From a certain perspective, you can SCUBA dive in land. A lot of the lakes around here are _really_ muddy.
So, if I ask two Disney cast members to hug each other, they'll be trapped forever?

It's Disney characters when a kid wants a hug. You have no idea how much the kid might need the hug and reassurance so letting go first could be upsetting.
I think this is the first one that I would have had to sit out :D
About halfway through I was thinking of something like a greeter using a handshake, so not too far off in the end
finally, a question that I already know the answer first 😂
Why is Tom Scott so handsome? Why is that the only thing on my mind while I'm watching this?
First thought was something like Search and Rescue operator. Don't let go of the person being rescued, but I'm sure this isn't it.
I really wanted to know that "rolling" gesture while listening

It's so funny that the moment I read the title I went "Elsa, DUH"
Does this rule apply to Elsa? I feel it shouldn't.
The facepalm of melissa is hilarious when sabrina talks.
There actually _are_ multiple people playing some characters (such as Mickey) at the same park, and they have to carefully coordinate their movements to ensure that nobody can see two of them at the same time.
Which Succession episode is Sabrina referring to?
The one where Roman is sent on management training at the parks maybe? Or when Greg is in the mascot suit in the first episode
I hugged a random Pluto? once... GREAT hugger! I guess they WERE a professional hugger...
Have they ever not gotten one?
BRB - Off to Disneyland to hug Goofy for an awkwardly long time
Tom also once described a house as a people tank
I thought it was when meeting royalty, you are briefed to let them control the handshake.
But that Succession episode does make sense now!
My first thought was someone working with powerlines. You can't let go first due to arcing.
The bit about Goofy being execs makes sense of the time Goofy hit on my teenage sister at Disney World.
Does it only apply to kids or can you deliberately make Goofy really uncomfortable by hugging him and not letting go.
that would be goofy indeed
