Respect, yes. But she needs tough love, too, to rid the clutter/mess. I have seen it many times. My pack-rat brother told me “I haven’t had time to clean” like this gal. Nonsense. All of her problems will return until she dies in the house. Then her siblings/children will have a terrible job of clean up. The murder of her son is devastated. That was many years ago. She needs to live what life she can, now. Good to help her but it is a bandaid.

I have been doing pest control since 1981 and I have never seen a rat infestation this bad in a home. Of course, that house was the perfect nesting place. I like how diplomatic you were with Catherine when you gently suggested that she needs to clean up her act. I am not a bit surprised that the rats had a field day in there. The only thing that surprises me is that it was not cockroach infested as well. How come you didn't provide directions on how to make the darts? I would have enjoyed seeing how to did it. I have to admit that I have never gone around shooting rats with darts, but it does look like fun. I've always been more of a build them out and trap them kind of guy. Of course, you did that as well. I would like to give that blow gun a go though. That was a fun video. Thanks for sharing. Be well my friends.

I trained my dog to go after rats. He took to it like... well he took to it like a duck takes to water. My back porch used to have a rat infestation because for years, the porch was practically a storage space till I cleaned and reorganized it. A total of five rats lived in that nest. a total of 4 were caught and killed by my dog. The only rat to survive, ironically was a rat that looked sick and diseased. It had tumors and missing patches of fur, so I'm glad he didn't catch that one. I have two dogs, my large dog kills rats, my small dog points them out. People can say what they want, but at the end of the day, rats are a pest and a dog is a rodent's natural predator.

Unsanitary living conditions at her house BEFORE the rats. The rats accelerate the hazards after finding favorable conditions. My recommendation is cleanse with fire. Move to efficiency apt with less maintenance required by an elderly lady. She can even keep her dog.

An infestation of rats was eating my chicken feed. I brought a crawdad trap out to the chicken-house and stuffed a big hunk of cheese inside. Left the door open for a couple of nights. Made a "cheese-cage" out of 1/2" hardware cloth and put a 1/2 pound of cheese inside. The rats were nibbling all night long. THEN ... we closed the crawdad trap door.
We caught 32 rats in 4 nights.

Always an underlying issue when someone is comfortable living like that. I've been to a house where there were dog feces everywhere and smeared all over the walls. It was an older woman that we helped clean up her yard and fix her windows. We found the bones of a dog that was tied up to a tree. The grass grown over the body and the chain, it was about 4 feet tall grass. We asked her and she said she forget the dog was back there.
