- It was another night of arrests as police and protesters clashed in Portland, Oregon on Sunday - one night after a man was shot and killed in the city.
After declaring an unlawful assembly after saying protesters were seen throwing projectiles, police began arresting demonstrators, and at one point, while arresting someone, police began to shove the crowd back - knocking one person into the press.
Anti-racism protests have roiled downtown Portland every night for more than three months calling for police reform following the May 25 killing of George Floyd, the Black man who died under the knee of a white police officer in Minneapolis.

I lived in Peru during the 90's and protests for government corruption turned into a magnet for impoverished criminals and they eventually just turned into riots looking for opportunities.
I think it's important to point out that there is meaningful purpose with the protestors and that now there's people going there just to incite violence

Well, protestor and demonstrator is technically correct, while they would have to say "alleged rioter" if you had your way, wich seems a tad tabloid-y. In the USA we have the right to be innocent until proven guilty. The irony of that statement is impressive. The Hong Kong protesters were far more violent and destructive than the Portland ones have been. Gluing bricks to the roads to stop traffic for weeks? Occupying gopvernment buildings long term? Assaulting officers? All things that were every day activity in Hong Kong.
Yet you support the Hong Kong protesters I am sure but oppose those in the US. Even the issues are the same... the Chinese have considered Hong Kong the last bastion of colonial power in China and have wanted it integrated into China because of that for a hundred years. We see (rightly) protest against authoritarian government and yet many in China see Hong Kong as a bunch of selfish kids, snow flakes who want to think they are special who should become real Chinese. By contrast people over seas see protests and rioting in the US as natural considering how much oppression minorities here have experienced and the lack of action to change it but we see the protesters as selfish kids who are snowflakes apparently.
It's like expecting blacks in South Africa not to riot. But here we are as Americans pretending we don't have a race problem so large that minorities feel the need to disrupt society to get attention drawn to it.

Had a friend who cut his finger in the mid 80's. He ignored it. When it got infected, he continued to ignore it. When his arm swelled up he finally sought medical treatment and the came very close to amputating his arm.
