Amazing review as always !! I been shooting bear for years and love them! Crazy story about customer service… My 17 year old son saved up some money to buy a bear species ev. He got a great deal on eBay. Only problem is the guy who sold it to him lied about the draw weight . My son wanted a 70 # max and the one we got was 60. I called bear and explained the issue and asked if I could buy some limbs. I have a press and can do it my self. He said we can’t sell them to the public and I would need to go thru a dealer. I said unfortunately I don’t have anyone close to my area. He placed me on a brief hold. Came back on and said I’m gonna do you a favor . He asked for my address and sent me a set of limbs for free knowing 100% it was nothing they did. Now that is customer service !!

I picked up one of these the beginning of the year. At 41 I’m just graduating from rifle to bows. I’m truly loving it and the grouping has been great. Pumped for bow season this year. Great review on it

I've had a Whitetail Maxx for a few months. Incredibly forgiving bow.
Adding the bearpaw grip was the key to settling it down for me.

On Bear’s website it defaults to the left hand grip. I’m assuming this is still a right hand bow grip, just called the left hand, since your left hand holds the grip? I really want to order it. Have you tried the trophy ridge dampeners? Do they help?

They could bump up the price a 100 dollars throw a pic rail and a bearing cable guard and they’d blow everyone out of the water

Very well done. I really appreciate your approach & application. It is extremely helpful. I watched all of your Bear reviews last year and before.....also the Hoyt Torrex and a few others. I have shot the Species, Legit, Adapt & Adapt Plus, Alaskan XT and this Whitetail Maxx. I liked all of them. My son bought the Legit and hunted with it last season. He harvested his first compound bow deer(doe) late archery. For the money the Legit and the Species are great bows.
I really preferred the Adapt Plus and was ready to buy it when this Maxx and the Alaskan XT were released. After shooting these two new bows it took me a good while to choose. The draw cycle is noticeably smoother on the Alaskan and it is "softer" shooting and a bit quieter than the Maxx. I am 6' 1" and the Alaskan is more balanced and at 29.5 - 30" it just fit me best.
The 90% let off on this Maxx is very, very impressive. Thank you.
Look forward to Alaskan XT review.

I just got a Maxx a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I do wish I could get rid of some of the twang that you hear after the shot. I plan on shooting this thing for the next 10 years. I love the draw let off too! It was a hard choice between this and the adapt+

If the cams lock up, put it in the press and roll the cams back into position.
I've had my Whitetail Maxx since November and I got it tamed really well by taking off the 4 string grubs and installing brass speed nocks in their place with shrink tubing, and installing cat whisker string silencer between them top & bottom. While the bow still has a bit of hand buzz, it's much less than it had with the string grubs, and that 'tink' noise is gone. I also got my Paw grips in tonight and installed it right away, and it just felt sooooo much nicer. It also corrected my draw length by pushing the bow out that extra 1/8". I absolutely love this bow, and my Alaskan XT. Two bows for less than the price of a flagship bow from some other manufacturers.
There's a lot more bells and whistles with the flagship bows that, frankly, I don't care for, because at the end of the day, these 2 bows shoot just as well without the cost. Keeping the bow designs simple is my preference. Newfangled tech is just something else that can go wrong. Shimming cams? Set it, and forget it. No worrying about set screws coming loose, or the worm screw moving your cams without notice. That's just one example of why I like to keep my bows simple. Another one is static yokes that you can use to tune for perfect cam lean, centershot, and arrow flight.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 88.8 dB nearly the same loudness at the Mathews Phase 4, or Lift?

This bow looks great! 👍🏻 I like your reviews because they don’t come across like a sponsored commercial or Clickbait they’re honest honest opinions.
Question would you recommend the ready to hunt package version or build your own and if you were to build your own? What would you put on it?

I have a Hoyt RX5, Bowtech Experience and Bear Divergent EKO. One thing I can say is a solid positive about the Bear, is it never comes out of tune and always hits where I put it. I shoot my Hoyt primary and Bowtech as backup, and leave the Bear hanging for JIC. However, every time I grab it and go cold bore at 80yrds and it hammers without fail! Truly, without fail its the easiest to tune and holds tune, it doesn't feel as good on the shot but everything else is on par...

I've been shooting a Whitetail Maxx for a little over a month at 64lbs (I'm almost 70), 28" draw, and 90% letoff. While there is a definite hump on the back end it's nothing crazy, and it shoots better than I can. The price was the clincher for me.

    • @BackyardBows

Bear gets kinda a bad rep for making only value oriented bows for a long time especially from your older guys that will only sell Mathews and Hoyt which are phenomenal I asked my shop if they was gonna get some in and I was surprised he didn’t sell more because of cost and he told me I didn’t know what I was talking about which I didn’t care for considering I’ve been in this since I was like 12 but I’m excited to see what you think if the persist I’ve said it I’ll say it again I love your reviews because you seem so relatable to the everyday guy keep up the good work my guy

Love the reviews... You keep mentioning the board where you keep all the data on reviews for all the bows you test.. How about on one of your reviews, you share that data, so we can see the comparisons on all the flagships to mid-level bows side by side.....

Bear makes bows the way everyone should.
Mathews pse hoyt bowtech all used to have a lot of variety. Now it's just a much cheaper version that you feel or a flagship that costs just to damn much.
Your analogy would be more relatable if comparing an ram 1500 to a suped-up limited.
My opinion is that these flagships are purely status symbols. There is nothing wrong with it, but nocking a guy with and adapt or alaskan xt would show an ignorant elitist mindset.
