For the longest time, I have been putting off replacing the rotors on my R33 Skyline. Well finally I install a fresh set of Project Mu brake pads & rotors.

SAMMIT, those rotors are on backwards. You want to swap them right to left. The slot is for pushing debris/ dust out, not push in, like they are now. Nice kit though! Great vid!

Wrong....the point in the slot is to create an air gap, it doesnt matter which way its pointing. What matters is which way the vain is pointing. If they're straight vained then it doesnt matter which side they're on.
@@jarsky the slots will be in the same direction as the vents from my experience.
Couple things. You can sand the pads flat to reuse them. And rotors are on the wrong sides.
I've done this several times on beaters. I have a belt sander I mount in my vice and smooth them out flat.
Not sure if you got the ECU sorted, but you're on the right track. You've never had the car in a setup where you could properly tune the closed loop idle control of the G4, so now you've got the right data going in you can tune that and life will be sweet. I drove my 33 with no ECU idle control for months though, so if you run in to troubles getting the closed loop setup working you might be able to turn it off. It can be a pain to get right, the Link has so much configuration you can chase your tail for ages.
everyone going on about the rotors being on backwards. The most important part of the rotor is the internal vane for ventilation. The slots arent as important. If it is a straight vane the rotors can go on either side. Most ppl have them pointed backwards. Where as high end brake companies ie brembo/project mu say to point them forwards. Realistically its personal preference.
Sammit if you desire to still use the old brake pads for another car and or event. Get 180 grit sand paper lay the sand paper flat on a table and scuff the brake pads on the sand paper to remove any imperfections and to make sure that the brake pad material that makes contact with the rotor is “Truely flat” that’s what we do at my dealership I work at Nissan 👍🏻 hope this helps

@@joelupa2558 Yeah, those were quality-built items. My sister kept getting them for work from her company, and described a similar scare. (I don't particularly remember actually buying mine in a store so I might have had one of her old ones, in fact, when her firm upgraded. )
It might not be as good as a 2007 MacBook because they were amazing

It all comes down to choice really.
It doesnt matter which way the slots go, as long as theyre orientated correctly for the cooling fins. I did my R33 with DBA 4000xs rotors, which don't matter which way around the rotor is i.gyazo.com/6f08f502f46080f8651ce05e21f65db0.jpg

Yeah the slots on the outside wouldn’t matter it’s the center vein direction in the inside the rotors that matters.
Yeah I use to use project Mu rotors and pads a long time ago. They get noisy when you start hitting the brakes and you will have an unbelievable amount of brake dust! If Project Mu did change over the years then I wouldn’t mind using their products again.

I just ordered new rotors and pads for my blobeye WRX, I got 4 DBA T3's for $675 AUD and I will be buying project mu HC800's for the pads soon. So looking forward to it.
The rotors are on backwards mate. Also use the old mechanic trick with your old brake pads and rub them on rough concrete to make them flat again and remove the grooves worn
You should paint them rotors and use like pinstripe the letters on the calipers. Be totally sick. Just make sure to use high heat paint. Love the new brake kit Sammit. You are building all your cars on another level. . You've come a long way Sammit, great job!
Forgive me for maybe being dumb but are the groves not supposed to be Pointing toward the lower side of the caliper?
I think the ecu was simply trying to find the right starting map, it will be perfect next time you start it

It looks like you haven't cleaned the rust off those hubs properly but I might be wrong because of the light. If you have weird vibration that will be the cause. A mechanic told me this a few years ago and I always cleaned properly before installing new rotors.
Did mine last week and definately did this using Maguires Super Degreaser, sand paper and wire brush. Just to give them a really nice cleanup, but also to make sure the rotors sat flat...i then put copper grease on the hub itself to stop binding with the rotor: i.gyazo.com/99395b916416755d8095970d060bb4c1.jpg

If the whole shaft is moving it could be a bearing that’s off, happened in my car
Sammit sammit sammit... both rotors and pads can be resurfaced. If you sanded those pads flat with some sandpaper you could have still used them😊

You can also have the used rotors 'turned' or machined to flatten the surface for new pads.
So the last performance rotors I purchased saud in the instructions, you should clean new brake rotors with soap and water. Apparently brake clean evaporates too quickly to properly clean... who knows....

Sammit starting to acquire a lot of cars now. Parts in japan is expensive. One car doesnt end. What more if its three cars.
Is the rotor orientation correct to the slotted groove?
If you love or work on 90's cars, just buy all the vacuum hose in quasi bulk. (Rock Auto and presumably similar places are good for that) Eventually most of the people whose cars I worked on migrated to newer stuff but I still have a good sized CD rack full of the stuff here. :) )
I think you put the rotors on the wrong wheel.. my slotted rotors are opposite rotation.. the lines on yours run into the brakes different.. check to make sure

are you using your idle control? you need to reduce the duty on your idle air control valve to fix that hunting....it'll be worse on cold start.

Do the brake clean after the rotor is on the hub so you dont get your oil from your hands on it.
Am i wrong or are break rotors and pads meant to score like that? Isnt it normal, kinda the whole point in bedding in breaks?

Silicone tubing is only good for pressure, not vacuum. Rubber tubing with woven fabric is better. OEMs use it.
