Justaperson gripping a mag well to fire is a valid method. It is not the most stable platform for firing; however is a more comfortable for some people, increases weapon retention and maneuverability in confined spaces. I have heard from several folks (but only heard) that it even is part of Marine Corps training. You can even buy silly grips that go on the mag well to increase grip, but I'd rather just buy more mags. I personally swap back and forth based on the situation(and honestly just how I feel at the moment) and I am of the opinion that 'proper form' is whatever works for you, as long as it is safe.

I would argue that a sensible, working compromise should be explored, but I'm not sure that will happen. People are too passionate about their fundamental rights to meekly give them up. Full auto are NOT banned, they are heavily regulated. Just like silencers, they are not banned, they are regulated, I've received my stamp, passed the federal and local law enforcement interviews and was allowed to purchase and legally own silencers. With the exception of explosives, I believe we should have the same rifles as the military but I don't think we should have any weapon they have. I don't think citizens need explosives because there's no way to differentiate between good or bad targets. Guns can discriminate between targets but explosives kill everyone in the vicinity no matter your intent.
when the constitution was written, a civilian could be armed equally to the military in every way. people nowdays say "well the founding fathers just ment muskets and stuff" but they forget the context that those weapons were all the military had as well, so comparitively we have far less arms rights than we did when the constitution was written, because the government has acess to far, far supirior armerment than civilians.

Justaperson gripping a mag well to fire is a valid method. It is not the most stable platform for firing; however is a more comfortable for some people, increases weapon retention and maneuverability in confined spaces. I have heard from several folks (but only heard) that it even is part of Marine Corps training. You can even buy silly grips that go on the mag well to increase grip, but I'd rather just buy more mags. I personally swap back and forth based on the situation(and honestly just how I feel at the moment) and I am of the opinion that 'proper form' is whatever works for you, as long as it is safe.

We might not have guns in the UK, but we see plenty in the movies. Any red-blooded male with a fleeting interest in how they would measure up in a combat situation has paid enough attention to war movies to know the basics of how to load & fire weapons like the AK & AR. The thing that strikes me in this video is that you're likely to do much more damage with the semi-auto AR than you are blasting away with the fully auto version. Most militaries train their soldiers to fire single, aimed shots, unless they're laying down supressing fire. Fully automatic is designed for room clearance. Of course, when it comes to machineguns it's a different picture, but I see semi-automatics as every bit as deadly as actual assault rifles.

When it comes to the gun debate I'm torn. I would love to own my own guns, but I'm not sure I'd like to live in the US cities with high levels of gun violence or worry about some lunatic shooting up my kid's school. In the UK we don't have a history of gun ownership and we have very low levels of gun ownership. I'm happy with our system. However, I would not presume to tell our American cousins how to live. I can see pros and cons on both sides of the debate. Freedom vs safety.
A lot of things are regulated for the greater good. Tobacco, alcohol, drugs, cars, industrial practices, food and so on. All of these are restrictions of freedom, but they are designed to protect people. I think the gun control lobby has a strong moral argument for tighter controls. I also see the pro-gun lobby's slippery slope argument and have some sympathy of their 'tyrannical government' & 'right to self-protection' arguments. I would not presume to pass judgement on an issue that is none of my business, but I think it is a debate that should be had without branding the other side evil or stupid. I would argue that a sensible, working compromise should be explored, but I'm not sure that will happen. People are too passionate about their fundamental rights to meekly give them up. There is so much history that there are no easy solutions. How do you come to any consensuses in such a huge country with such a varied population?
I hope you work things out and these senseless mass killings stop. I just wanted to let my American cousins know that not all Brits are judgemental wankers like Piers. Some of us can see both sides of the argument and realise it's not our place to tell you what to do. We kind of forefeited that right in 1776 ;)

Just like silencers, they are not banned, they are regulated, I've received my stamp, passed the federal and local law enforcement interviews and was allowed to purchase and legally own silencers. With the exception of explosives, I believe we should have the same rifles as the military but I don't think we should have any weapon they have. I don't think citizens need explosives because there's no way to differentiate between good or bad targets. Guns can discriminate between targets but explosives kill everyone in the vicinity no matter your intent.
when the constitution was written, a civilian could be armed equally to the military in every way. people nowdays say "well the founding fathers just ment muskets and stuff" but they forget the context that those weapons were all the military had as well, so comparitively we have far less arms rights than we did when the constitution was written, because the government has acess to far, far supirior armerment than civilians.
