As a child I wrote to Michael Landon. I told him I didn't like how they show didn't stick to the books, how they moved around more than the show did. He wrote back thanking me for being a fan, and explained they could not move the show around like they did in the books, it would be to expensive. I wish I still has his letter, it was one of my most treasured possesioons
I think I really liked the early series of when it all started , the family coming into the wild America, building a house, starting a new life and generally just settling in, meeting new people etc etc. I did like other seasons but the earlier ones were the best. Same with The Walton's series.
MY FAVORITE EPISODE WAS WHEN NELLIE PRETENDED TO BE CRIPPLED AND BLAMED LAURA . LAURA FELT GUILTY AND KISSED NELLIE'S A$$ FOR A VERY LONG TIME . WHEN LAURA FOUND OUT THAT NELLIE WAS FAKING IT , SHE TOOK NELLIE TO THE TOP OF A HILL IN HER WHEEL CHAIR AND SHOVED HER DOWN OVER THE HILL INTO A POND.
I watched ~ 3rd of this cheesy video because I used to watch that show when I was a little kid. As far as I remember it was Laura who threw both of them after they were crippled in a landslide falling down the hill because it was rocky.
Remember that one. Nellie was an evil little *itch. She was in Love Boat too and played a spoiled brat who had Vicky do all the scenes she hated doing and was just same in that. Yet in real life, it was said she was dear friends with both actresses she was nasty to on their respected programmes. Nancy Kulp was also in that episode of Love Boat, she played Miss Jane in the Beverley Hillbillies who had a fondness for Jed Clampett and Jethro Bodine who was his sister Pearl's son and helped with the heavy work and driving them around. Great series back then, along with Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie and also Mr Ed re-runs from the 50s and 60s.
To make matters worse, Sylvia became pregnant. And her attacker tried to rape her again! Then she fell to her death. Not suitable material for Little House.
Perhaps I should not "Let if be known" but Michael Landon's alleged substance abuse problem that was well known on the set. It was alleged that he would be heartedly imbibing hard liquor well before noon. Now, I literally viewed almost the entire 9 years/episodes with the exception of the final year or two due having things better to do. My bottom line is, Landon procured and produced the show to fame and maintained it so. Quite possibly, the booze enhanced his ability to reign in the talent, develop the characters and produce one of the most heartfelt TV shows known to modern times. R.I.P Michael Landon and thanks.
I think that my favorite character was Nells Olson. The man had a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. At the same time, he'd lay down the law when had to, like when he whopped Nelly and Willie after they humiliated Laura in the episode about the talking machine. On the other hand, I couldn't stand Nancy's character. Whereas Nelly could be mean, Nancy appeared to be a budding sociopath.
In the 5th grade, the teacher read the first book to us, and I was hooked. I read them all well before the show. I dunno why the narrator keeps referring to them getting older. In the books, she gets older, gets married, and becomes a mother.
I watched Little House in re-runs during the later 80’s. At 8 years old, Karen Grassle became my first TV crush along with Linda Purl (Matlock’s daughter in season one).
I loved Mr. Edwards and the chemistry that he had with Laura. I think those two must have had some kind of affection or respect in real life because I felt joy when I saw them interacting. My family watched the whole nine seasons together as I was growing up, and I was very sorry to see the show go.
I feel that while you're in that part of fiction that makes you feel better after watching it, you just don't want to let that go. That's why shows like Little House, The Waltons and many others lasted longer during that time. I feel if the behind the scenes wasn't a MAJOR issue, it would've lasted longer and probably gained a movie finale over another season.
My favorite episode was when it snowed sooo much that Pa had to climb out the loft window where Mary & Laura slept, to snow shoe it over to the top of the barn to get all the Christmas presents 🎁 😀
I was born blind. When I watched the episode where Mary went blind, it was the first time I understood that blindness is a problem. I couldn't understand why she was reacting so badly, and I started to feel this kind of shame about being blind, that it really was bad. I was around six or seven years old, and that was the first time I ever saw my daddy cry, and he was sobbing, not just flicking away a few tears. I didn't understand it, and I tried to reassure him that she would feel better as soon as she learned braille. Looking back, I guess that is a testament to the work my parents did in helping me cope with blindness so that I didn't see it as a defect or something I should try to hide. For a long time, I had so much trouble reconciling everybody crying over Mary going blind, and my parents telling me that I just have different abilities and process things in different ways from other people. I didn't know how to deal with the fact that there are good and bad parts of being blind And tried to make it a black or white thing. I still can't watch that episode because all of those confused feelings come back. You know, the real Mary Ingles was known for doing a great deal of charity work, Various types of expert sewing and quilting, and she was known to braille by hand letters to people across the country who were either going blind and learning braille, or who were born blind and needed penpals. One of my teachers in school told me that some of Mary Ingles' needleworkwork is in several museums and some of her braille letters are in the Library of Congress as an exhibit. Learning about who she was as a person helped those feelings of shame and confusion to go away.
Yes, I have the same memory of this exact episode. Sitting at home watching and my little world was crashing down around me. I don’t remember the episode, but I REMEMBER the episode if that makes sense
Little House was a staple of life in it's first few seasons where I live. Our tiny town only had one TV channel and it would be a few years before cable TV came to town so that we had five channels. House was still an important show to watch and the whole family was in front of the TV. Good days back then.
Out was a great series! My brother and I were of the same age as the TV kids - we all grew up together. Of course Halfpint was everyone’s favorite!!!❤️ 🎉💕
I think my favorite episode was about a dream Albert had on Halloween. Laura was called "knot-head" by Albert, and general hilarity ensued! The whole episode was one giant laughter-fest! One part, that a lot of people probably didn't catch, gave our family a huge laugh. As Albert is riding desperately away, the indian-sounding tune playing in the background was actually from a traditional Hebrew Folk Song that is sung at parties and festivals. Since Michael Landon was Jewish, I think it was his way of throwing in a very cool Hebrew reference. We loved it! Sounded Indian, but had us singing Hebrew the rest of the day.
My favorite episode was when Laura and her friend thought they had found gold, but it turned out to iron pyrite, otherwise known as as fool’s gold. I loved Laura’s fantasy scenes of her wealthy family lording it over Nellie’s impoverished family.
I love Little House! I loved watching Nellie fly down that hill in the wheelchair! I hope more people vote on The Little House On The Prairie Lego Ideas set, so I can buy it! I love all the old sitcoms from the 50s - 90s! I wish Lego had a bewitched set, but a video would be awesome too!

I remember one of the most impactful episodes were the ones in which the family welcomed a new addition but something was wrong. They took on difficult, permanent problems that could not be fixed in 20 minutes.
I watched the show when it came on every day as reruns in the early 1980’s. Of course Laura, aka Half Pint, was my favorite character!! I watched that show almost every day from the 6th to 8th grade and loved it!! I also read and enjoyed all of the books except for the last one, The First Four Years.
I watched every episode and now a re run once in a while..Michael Landon favorite character followed by Melissa Sue Gilbert..I mean how couldnt you love Half Pint.
I absolutely loved Little House on the Prairie. However, even as a teen, I recognized a narcissistic personality in Michael Landon. He ruined the show for me. As horrible as he was, Victor French was the real man of this show. ❤
There was one episode of Little House On The Prairie that to this day I can't watch it because of what it's about. The episode was titled, "Sylvia." she was one of the girls Albert had an interest in and in the episode she gets raped and eventually she dies because of the trauma it caused her. Because of that episode to this day I can't watch that episode. I skip that episode every time.
Little House On The prairie still is a classic. I still watch reruns. I have to say. When the girls were still little. Was the best days of the show. Having Little Joe. Play Charles Ingles. The big boss of the show. Probably worried some people. I think he did good. I love this show.
The writers were having a BAD day when they wrote the Legend of Black Jake. It was a chimp in the early episode Circus Man. Blanche was an ORAGUTAN In the episode For the love of Blanche. I wonder if Laura ever understood why nobody liked Fred🐐 ?
Friendly accused Landon's Prairie of being too affluent? Really? That will be difficult to reconcile with an episode I bet several of my fellow Gen X Prairie fans will certainly remember in which Walnut Grove forms it's own youth football team which had to resort to using a stuffed sack for practice as they couldn't afford an actual football. 🤣😂🤣😂

The many, many anachronisms were SO bad - telephones, married teachers, pregnant teachers, 70s hair and speech patterns…it was so inauthentic in the later seasons that it completely lost all credibility.
Michael Landon was an interesting guy. A functional alcoholic and a guy who lived on nicotine, averaging 4 packs a day. He was also a control tyrant. He was the reason Bonanza ended.. He was the reason little house ended. He was the reason brother John and highway to heaven ended. It was his way, or nothing. When the studio couldn't take anymore, the pulled the plug, over and over again.
As a child I wrote to Michael Landon. I told him I didn't like how they show didn't stick to the books, how they moved around more than the show did.

Several years the cast of Little House played baseball with Sonora PD at Sonora High School in Tuolumne Co.
my favorite episode was the Lake Keziah monster. That one is so funny. Even now I can't help but laugh when I can catch it on tv.
Many ppl complained about Landon. This includes Karen Grassle. And Melissa G complained too when he dumped his wife of many years for a makeup artist.

One of my favorites was when Laura’s friend Ellen drowned and her mom kidnapped Laura turning her into Ellen. Scary 😳
So nothing actually went "horribly wrong". No like for the click bait title.
Mr Edward's an dr baker
Michael Landon did not want to studios construction crew to destroy the town, so the town was blown up and leaving the church standing.
I read that he didn't want those set pieces used in other shows and that's why they were destroyed.
