  • Before Robin Williams, and well before the internet, there was another high profile shocking case of a mega star that took his own life. Just when Freddie Prinze Sr. was at the top of his fame, it came to a screeching halt by his own hand. Imagine Jerry Seinfeld taking his life during season five of Seinfeld.. Never getting “No Soup For You” . But even if you remember the day, reading that shocking headline about Freddie being gone, do you really know what was going on behind the scenes foretold of the coming tragedy?

Mr. Prinze represents a common, but rarely mentioned, effect that celebrity can have on a person. He seemed to have it “all together”, to be balanced, well prepared, and ready, for the stardom that was sure to come. Sadly, he wasn’t.
A real presence in the world of entertainment (not just “hispanic entertainment“), he was a great PERSON. THAT’S what I miss most. He treated everyone equally and his kind is a rarity. Such a shame.
Cheers, Freddie! You still made a great contribution to us & I, personally, thank you sir. R.I.P. 👍

I might have been 13 when "Chico and the Man" was on, but he was so cute and had the best hair 🤭 In my home, we never were taught who was this or that....every one was just a person. I don't think I even had an understanding of what those jokes were about, and why, until I was older. I remember crying when he died and never understood that kind of pressure then. It's a shame, too. He was hilarious! Gone way too soon!

I do remember Freddie very well and was really sad when he died. I was a teenager and found him to be a hero as young hispanic entertainers, much less comedians, were not common at all. I do have his mother's book, very heartfelt, and I do have his album, " Looking Good" still. He came at the right time for me but left too soon. I had no idea how much inner turmoil he was going through, he was still growing up to be honest. At 22, with all that fame, it was so easy to lose yourself in the vane and fickle world of Hollywood. I watched your entire post here and I was amazed that you showed the newspaper headline of Freddie's death from a newspaper called "The Bakersfield Californian." That is my hometown and I was a paperboy(when they used to have those), when all this occurred ! I delivered that newspaper on my paper route if you can believe it, as well as the one when Elvis died, later that same year ! Its a small world indeed. Nevertheless, I've remained a Freddie Prinze fan ever since. May he rest in peace, if he only knew how many loved him or just liked him, if only knowing that, he could still be here.

I came here to say how it's in poor taste to use Pam Greer in the thumbnail for this video while the entire video is about Freddy Prinze. She is still alive!

Easy, both screwed their lives because of drug addiction. One shot his brains off, the other died alone from a drug overdose, basically mimicking his boyhood idol John Belushi.
      Too much fame, too fast!

We kids watched what our father watched. We could watch or if not our parents would find a piece of work for us or we could go to bed even earlier than usual. This is why we're experts on the NFL. There are many programs I've never seen.

I wasnt impressed with him. But very sad when i heard he took his life. I didn’t care or think David Brenner was funny. Just me, and I'm sure many did. Saw David, in-person, when he was with Sonny & Cher. Just my opinion... everyone.

At least his golddigger didn't get a nickel. Whatever problems he had that were so egregious that she got a Magic Restraining Order after ONE YEAR of marriage were with him before the wedding. She knew who he was, she knew how he was. Notice she filed as soon as there was an income baby?

Saturday Night Fever was a year after Freddy Prinz died. I think the T.V. show he was on,made him a slave and wasn’t family friendly. The Man,was a grouch. I remember they both argued a lot.
    Which didn’t help his image.

YOU ARE SO WRONG ... The time period I grew up in the 70s ,Freddy was a mastermind .And racisim never came in to play in the 70s with comedy that a now thing .He would have never been judged on that .Second time I have cought you LYING . YOU ARE BECOMING AN UNRELIABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION My suggestion dont rely on this source
