Bravo!!! I can't think of a more loving tribute to "BEWITCHED" on its 60th Anniversary than this extremely well-produced and presented documentary. Much of what I've seen regarding "BEWITCHED" online has been extremely negative in tone and content (like something produced by "The National Enquior") but this documentary is thoughtful, intelligent and clear-headed. Your use of audio interviews, letters, memos, etc. is EXCELLENT and your narration throughout is superb. This documentary is a godsend to "BEWITCHED" fans. Thank you for giving "BEWITCHED" a thorough, considered, and considerate, positive, and loving tribute. Elizabeth Montgomery and the cast, crew, and production team would be so pleased. The clip of the last scene between Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick Sargent made me cry. THANK YOU!!! Interestingly, Elizabeth deftly avoided being typecast after "BEWITCHED" by appearing in dramatic TV movies inspired by her political activism and commitment to social causes and justice.

@@danielhenares : Thank you so much for your commitment and two years of very hard work. It is extremely worth it. This documentary should be included in the BEWITCHED Blu-Ray release. It was wonderful to hear Elizabeth Montgomery speak with such love and respect towards Alice Pearce and Marion Lorne.

I agree with you so much! This current media world seems to want to shatter our childhood memories and shred actors and actresses to bits by revealing mistakes they've made in life to make us doubt their goodness. So happy this was not done here!

@@danielhenares : Mill Creek/Screen Gems was supposed to release "BEWITCHED" series on Blu-Ray 9/17/24, which would have been perfect. The release date on Amazon has now been pushed ahead all the way to 2/4/25, which makes no sense at all. The price kept jumping around between $80-90, and is now set at an expensive $159.00. I have the entire series on DVD, but I don't know what is going on with the Blu-Ray release; sounds like it got caught in several different legalities and problems.

I am a 69 year old black male born in Durham, North Carolina. This video takes me back to my childhood remembering my family watching 'Bewitched' weekly. I was 9 years old in 1964 when 'Bewitched' aired on television. Jim Crow laws were still in existence until 1965. Black U.S. citizens in those days, particular in the South (Durham, N.C.) were second class citizens. However, watching 'Bewitched' weekly with my family was an escape for 30 minutes away from what was going on in that time. Alice Pearce aka Gladys Kravitz and Endora aka Agnes Moorehead were my favorite characters on 'Bewitched'. I still watch 'Bewitched' in 2024 on Freevee streaming television.

I am in my Mid-60's. This was my childhood, the age of innocence. What a great time to grow up. TV was our friend....Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Gidget, Gilligan's Island, Nanny and the Professor, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Family Affair, The Flying Nun, Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Lucy Show, The Doris Day show, I Dream of Jeannie, Green Acres, Mr. Ed, My Three Sons, My Favorite Martian, That Girl, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Carol Burnett Show, Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie...TV was mesmerizing then! NBC, ABC and CBS - The Fall Line up in September was so exciting.

I haven't seen as many of those shows as many of my contemporaries might have. Some I've never seen, some of them I couldn't stand and avoided, some I couldn't stand but watched anyway, some of them I would like to have seen but wasn't allowed to stay up that late, some I only saw years later on the syndicated rerun circuit, and some of them I actually liked quite a bit.
Out of all of them, just for pure enjoyment, I put "The Ghost And Mrs. Muir" at the top. Even though the inside of the house didn't make sense compared to the outside (yes, I noticed that stuff even as a young 'un), I loved those interiors. The kitchen -- er, GALLEY -- was fascinating, and the kids just seemed to be regular kids like us. And if the house had to come equipped with a ghost, Captain Gregg sure had his ups and downs but he looked out for the family living under his roof.

    Astonishing documentary.
This show was massive in the UK.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s when the show was in many of its multiple re-runs, but Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Morehead where house hold names, and even then, the affection for Elizabeth in particular was palpable from parents and older siblings.
The nose twitch was universally recognised as affectionate nod to the programme and its star
Truly was and remains a puece if magic.

Outstanding presentation and documentary on a sitcom that marked a generation of Baby Boomers like me. At a younger age, we (boys) grew up dreaming of Annette Funicello (Disney/Beach Party era by William Asher incidentally) and Shelley Fabares (Donna Reed Show). Later own as we were nearing marriage age (and service in the South East Asia), we taught about Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) as the perfect wife. I was very fortunate to be-witched by my high school Sweetheart who supported me through three wars... until CA took her away after 30 years of marriage. I am/was a lucky one to live that era - Thank you Daniel for bringing us back to a time of innocence, optimism and freedom (before the war, that is). May Peace be with you, Ciao, L (Veteran).

BEWITCHED had an incredible cast! Back then, some movie actors were reluctant to do television. But BEWITCHED had some wonderful actors from media, even had guests who weren't well known yet such as, Richard Dreyfuss and Maureen McCormick
From an interview with Liz, in 1965, she said that a small newspaper in the Midwest found out about her being pregnant, which they hadn't made public yet. Fans were ecstatic and the fans sent Liz congratulatory letters.
And this is where the "fight" began. Liz wanted to include her pregnancy into the storyline, but the stuffed shirts in New York were reluctant. But Liz pushed back and won. She also didn't want to have to go through what she did in season one. Liz filmed before she had her first son, the crew worked round Liz taking time off, Liz coming back and having to shoot her scenes in episodes already finished and new episodes. Liz said that was rough.
Tabitha was born and fans loved her and Erin Murphy was perfect.
I love Elizabeth's kind and gentle voice as she talked about Alice Pierce. They became close and Paul Davis, Alice's husband, said in a 1968 interview, that it was Liz who helped pull him out of his depression. Bill Asher asked if there were anything he could do? Davis said that he would like to get back into the business. So Asher let him direct some BEWITCHED episodes. So people will see two or three episodes in season three directed by Paul Davis.
Great point about strong lead women characters in BEWITCHED. There's something else, too. Endora and Maurice had an unusual marriage. They lived as husband and wife, but they led separate lives. Samantha and their grandchildren was the glue that kept them "together".
BEWITCHED also touched on topics of racism, women's rights, tolerance, acceptance, understanding, and the issues Darrin had of keeping Sam and his family safe. This is one reason that black people and gays could relate to the series, Sam's having to keep an eye on those around her and living "in the closet". Liz commented on this issue in a 1994 interview. She said that the cast discussed the issue onset, not in meetings.
In the scene where Liz talked about how the special effect got a bit out of hand, later in the interview, she said that their head special effects told someone that he was relieved. He said that he used enough stuff to blow her to Denver. 🙂 Liz said, I'm glad that didn't tell me that. 🙂 And she said it was fun. Liz had heart of a lioness.
Erin Murphy mentioned once that BEWITCHED is pooular worldwide, because it is so visual and easily translated into various languages.
It was more than Agnes Moorehead's disapproval of the change, it was her insulting and mistreatment of Dick Sargent that caused Liz to lose her temper and had it out with Moorehead, not in a vicious way, but Liz pushed until Moorehead apologized onset. It didn't end there. There are videos on YT and other sources, that go further into this.
This video is one of the best, if not the best, video that I've seen on BEWITCHED. The video is honest and allows the viewer to draw on their own memories, without throwing in personal opinions. This show is my personal favorite comedy. The cast was exceptional, which is one of many reasons why BEWITCHED is still loved sixty years after its premiere. ❤❤

This was my favorite show of all times and as I’m older watching it I can really appreciate the acting abilities of Elizabeth Montgomery the fact that she could play two characters and a character like Serena and pull that off. It was like watching two totally different people, but they looked alike and they couldn’t have been more different. It was like night and day. It is just absolutely crazy that she pulled it off so effortlessly.

Thanks for putting all these great behind the scenes footage together for a compelling story of how Bewitched was made, one of my favorite shows of that era. Everyone was perfectly cast in this talented group of actors, including the comedic secondary characters playing witches and warlocks. Dick York was the best Darren with great comedic and dramatic timing, and the second Darren was still very good. Samantha was the star of the show (with Darren her equal partner when York was involved). Of course Sam or Elizabeth Montgomery was the heart of the show. Nice to know both leads of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie were friends at the studio. Thanks for the memories with this show. Bewitched can now also be watched on RUclips.
