I can't help but smile while watching this performance. Her love for what she did is contagious.
Christa Ludwig is really giving a master class in performance here! She sings like a goddess, and is funny and sexy. She loves what she's doing and LB loves her for it. Thank you for sharing this

Lucky me. In 1957 I met Christa Ludwig and Walter Berry in Aix en Provence. I was a teenage regular standing room fan at the Staatsoper in Vienna. 'Frau Ludwig, Herr Berry!' I said. We got talking and they told me they were both singing at the arena tonight in the Barbiere di Seviglia. There was a festival going on in Aix. Frau Ludwig wanted to know who the Barber was going to be. I said 'Benno Kusche'. She said 'Joessas na der Benno!' and we all had a good laugh. Wonderful people, great singers.
Hilarious performance and quite different to the one she did in London.

Christa Ludwig knew how to create sounds and the text to go with them. One can always understand them and comprehend the character of the figure. Her Venus, Fricka, even Carmen or Dalila were differentiated personalities. And I will never forget her farewell as Klytämnestra in Berlin.
Seems like this was the best birthday present Lenny could’ve gotten, look at how happy he is! Both of them wonderful musicians.
Love this - they had a along history together (Ms. Ludwig and Mr. Bernstein). She is a real treat, my favorite meso.
"Entzückend" klingt im Deutschen banal und spießig. Wie kann ich es anders beschreiben. Ein feuriges Pralinè? In diesen, hier dokumentierten, Momenten hat diese phantastische Künstlerin ein Feuerwerk an Lebensfreude aufgeführt, verbreitet, verkörpert, das hoffentlich bei ihrem geehrten Freund damals genau so ankam. Ich jedenfalls bin, ja, etliche Jahre später, von diesem Moment immer noch begeistert. 👏👏❤🙋🏻♂️

Au-delà des désaccords strictement musicaux, Christa Ludwig et Leonard Bernstein étaient des partenaires complices qui respectaient tous deux la musique au plus haut degré.
Le texte est à hurler de rire, la musique tout aussi truculente, à l’image de la parodie du monde optimiste et de la morale selon Voltaire.
