Thanks so much for this David! It's not often that we get to see a musician of your caliber get frustrated in the practice room and in a world of "perfect" Instagram clips, this was super relatable and refreshing. Got genuinely inspired seeing you push through! Blessings and peace bro 🙏🏾✌🏾
You're out there playing these complicated stuff he wrote for you while he's just like "twieeeeywwww twwieeeeewww" on the guitar. Definitely a good guy
Sheesh Glad you shared this. This really shows what learning/practicing actually looks like lol @7:43 if you havent ever hit this place in your practice room where you feel like absolute trash, then you havent practiced people
Thanks for sharing David... Long-time follower and I've loved watching your journey!.... As a fellow drummer, your skills behind the kit are mind-blowing!.... This video was next level!.. While I don't understand the need to compose a track with such complexity, I totally appreciate the musicianship required to perform it precisely. And of course, your performance was faultless as expected. Thank you for showing us your journey through it. You are a credit to the profession and an inspiration to us all!...Never stop sharing your journey with us :)
Hi David. Thanks a lot for being a huge inspiration. This was awesome, and really shows what it takes and how dedicated you are. ! Keep grooving :) Greetings from Norway.
You're a monster, David. Amazing persistence. I understand that this is your job and you need to be the best you can be in this crazy world of exceptional musicians, but still amazing persistence.
Hey, I love your videos. As lolla was this week I looked at your vlog and noticed how you talk about Ableton a little. Can you please do a full in depth video all about Ableton and how you get the tracks made etc.. I think this would be so cool and our band uses Ableton as well and think multiple people are curious and wondering about all the details and a dedicated video would be so cool
First of all, ridiculous time signature, the just 16th had to be an odd 25; gross. But awesome job David!!! Seeing you struggling but getting through it is inspiring. Also Did anyone else notice the Uchiha clan crest on David's cap? I respect this.
Dear David, thank you so much for taking the time to prepare “BOXXXERS” for us drummers to learn. It has been a wonderful experience learning your composition. Below is a brief Bio of myself. All the best. Brief Bio: CONRAD ADAMS Conrad Adams is a dynamic young drummer from Hong Kong. Conrad Adams who is currently 15 years old began playing drums at the age of 4. Conrad Adams has been learning drums, percussion and bass guitar under the guidance of world renown Australian Drummer Chris Brien since 2014.
Conrad has developed an extremely high level of 4-Way Independence on the drum set as well as developing a strong understanding of odd time meter, both skills being way above his age group.

Hey Conrad!! Great great great job on the track!! Can you send me an email so we can link up and talk! My email is DavidColaDrums@gmail.com! Looking forward to chatting more!
Hi David, Not sure if you mentioned it, but how was the original drum tracks done for you to copy- was it machine done- or is a song written and played by someone else? Awesome playing as always
David, you obviously had to make a decision about whether or not this song was out of your league, and you accepted. How can you tell early on that you'll be able to play it in 2 days? What are some things you know it would take more than 2 days?
Could you explain to me the quintuplet shuffle and how that is 25/16? Every which way I think about it, I get 20/16 instead of 25/16. Everything sounds ripping and you sound unbelievably great!
Totally! Think of the quintuplet shuffle section (chorus 4/4 sounding section) as a big 5/4. Think of each 5/4 bar being 5 groups of 5/16 to make 25/16. If you listen to the entire section as a whole, the big 5/4 (25/16) is repeated 8 times exactly before heading back into the second section again. Obviously it’s easier to count in 4/4 (20/16 with the quintuplets), but if you truly wanted to you could count it in 25/16 and it would still line up 😂. The bridge section which I didn’t show is the same way - sounds 4/4, but its technically an implied 4/4 within 25/16 lol. That’s just my friend Chandler, he’s a music school bully but I love him
Is a number to the drummer depression/suicide hotline the watermark for the sheet music? OMG! 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 (if I have to break out a calculator to figure the sub-divisions of the time signature, I will commit Seppuku (ritual Japanese suicide) with a 2S drumstick; and that would be painful!😳🤯
Hi David , i have enjoyed your vlogs for for some time now and admire your skill as a pro drummer. But as a drummer for over 40 years now at various levels and genres of music , i,ve never listened to a more pointless piece of music than this song. You are worth more than playing this stuff other than a practice piece. Take it easy man .............
how many people actually know this song? yeah you’re crappy performance is not a big deal. it will keep you up at night for a minute but at the end of the day nobody is going to notice. Nobody

So true lol I’ve broken my sticks doin this
So cool to see Chris Coleman's NAMM 2011 25/16 madness play out in song form. This is rad.

This is great stuff man. I love a peak behind the curtain of tricky session work like this.
Dude, that was so sick!! It seriously sounds so good. I’m off to check out the full vid now. Cheers David!
Thanks a ton man!
I won't even be able to learn 20 seconds of this song in the near couple of decades. The whole song will never happen.
Amazing job David!
This is a drum song with some easy guitar playing. Well done.
This is legit me every time I learn a new song except its not a hard song and I just suck

Man my head hurt just thinking about that odd meter bro. Respect Bro.
You sir are an incredible drummer!
This is some straight up plini drum parts. Kudos. Sounds great
yep, very Chris Allison- esque
I have enough trouble playing in 4/4. Great work man!! 👍👍
Fantastic, thank you for sharing this. Many people do not realise how much work/effort goes into making music
Thanks for telling us what you are thinking as you break this down, that's gold right there!
That grooves remember me some parts of animals as leaders by Matt gartska🔥🔥👌👌
writing tunes where an arbitrary ridiculous time signature comes first is a rough phase we all go through
Thanks, David

Wow... Respect.... Next level professionalism... U crushed it
if I have to let this sink in through muscle memory I would have no more muscles left. Great piece of art!
7:52 is the mantra of every perfectionist musician ever, myself included. Even when we're nailing the part, we're our own worst critic. Rock on, bro.
Keep up the good work and play on.
Stay safe and healthy.
Part of the game play boy....tackling difficult time signatures is what pushes your creative capabilities to the max....
Okayyyyyy… And that’s why I’m a basement drummer 😮 that song is cracked. Holy moly
Great job, making drumming more human, loved :)
Oh my goodness! I have just gone insane.
First of all, ridiculous time signature, the just 16th had to be an odd 25; gross. But awesome job David!!! Seeing you struggling but getting through it is inspiring. Also Did anyone else notice the Uchiha clan crest on David's cap? I respect this.
Well done young gun.
dang son!!
Thanks for the insight. Play that kazoo!

Hey David, yeah, uh, you can have that one ALL to yourself. I'll sit this one out and watch. Now, whatever you do..... Don't stuff up!

My head hurts 😮. Way above my pay grade! Lol
Well done! this song is no joke!

Cola means butt in Spanish...David Butt 🤣🤣🤣
Hi David, Not sure if you mentioned it, but how was the original drum tracks done for you to copy- was it machine done- or is a song written and played by someone else? Awesome playing as always
Programmed drums!
@@DavidColaDrums man versus machine, I know which one I chose :-)
Sounds just like porcupine tree! He even looks like Steven Wilson 😆
7:43 is extremely relatable
This reminds me of chris coleman 25/16 😍
Man! Your crazy and so young kip posting
David, you obviously had to make a decision about whether or not this song was out of your league, and you accepted. How can you tell early on that you'll be able to play it in 2 days? What are some things you know it would take more than 2 days?
You’d have to pay me 10k to care this much about a session lol

@@DavidColaDrums Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for the information!
You should try Icronic by Polyphia
What ride cymbal are you using in this video David?
Is a number to the drummer depression/suicide hotline the watermark for the sheet music? OMG! 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 (if I have to break out a calculator to figure the sub-divisions of the time signature, I will commit Seppuku (ritual Japanese suicide) with a 2S drumstick; and that would be painful!😳🤯
Wow
The guitarist is really working his ass off while the drummer is basically doing nothing.
When you’re learning a drum part, do you play along to the music? Or just to a click track?
Everything and all. Track, click, and also no click and track to make sure I really have it down by memory
What app do you use to write out the chart?
what is the song called? sorry if i missed it, i really wanna try!
Play that long enuf u can get a job in NASA
Did he compose the tune on this software?
1) who's Chandler? 2) this isn't for church is it? Jeez I hope not

Ok , yup that's nut's !! You don't suck , it's just a rediculous track . Question is are you getting extra pay for 20 hrs worth of practice time !!
😁😅
omg those rusty bass strings! why?!
Unbvuevably tough to learn and play. I couldn’t get anywhere near it. It’s an awful song though to be fair. In my opinion.
how many people actually know this song? yeah you’re crappy performance is not a big deal. it will keep you up at night for a minute but at the end of the day nobody is going to notice. Nobody
This is the parallel to your buddy saying this tastes terrible you should have a bite… No thx bro 👎
