Thanks mate. I evicted a lodger but suspected they had got a spare key cut. There are 3 doors, and the local locksmith wanted £280 to replace them. After watching your video twice I just did it for £42, in about an hour. Happy days.
Just brilliant, you just saved me €120. A local guy wanted to charge me €140 to supply and change the barrel. A new barrel cost me €19.99 from a local DIY store. Working perfectly!
Today, I had a quote for £150 from a well known local locksmith, couldn’t get into my front door from the outside. Saw this video and purchased a new barrel for £10.88. Thank you for this video!
Appreciate this video is 4 year old. Have you since upgraded to the 3 Star eurocylinder locks? They are Anti-Snap. Notice your lock barrel sticks out at the front (external side) Vice grips/pliers can break that lock off. The 3 star anti snap versions keep the door locked. Consider upgrading if not done so.
I could hug you right now ❤😭 fed up with being stung financially. This helps me so much. I can't thank you enough. Really helped me and my family god bless
Thank you for this straight to the point easy to understand video. I had a faulty lock which I reversed. All working well now, and if needs be I can purchase a new barrel knowing full well that I now have the skills to fit and complete the JOB !
Fabulous video - thank you. Lock broke last night. Went to B&Q this morning and bought £24 for Yale replacement that matches, took no more than 2 mins.
Thanks GREAT video! I had a problem inserting the new one because it was catching on something, it wasn't quite flush. I looked in with a torch to see it wasn't quite clearing a part just before it comes out the the other side. After 30m of failure, I got a screwdriver and levered it gently. I was careful as I am a disaster with DIY. Levering it slightly managed to free it. Job done!
Really helpful! There seen to be so many dodgy locksmiths out there that I'd rather do the job myself anyway (as well as the cost saving)! Thanks for the video!
A relative off mine, charged me £180 quid. For two standard yale euro cylinders. I called him because I got mugged, soo was in shock. I realised he did me over after he fitted it. Just now, told him unjustified to charge that much for locks he probably got for 25 pounds. We will see if he returns most of money.
My door had a recessed grub screw rather than the screw shown. This required an Alan key to remove. If you see a hole where the screw should be try shining a torch down it to find the type of key/screwdriver required to remove it. I also needed to use the grub screw to secure the new barrel as my door dropped a plate down over it when deadlocking. At first I found the deadlock was being fouled and had to screw the grub screw in further to gain clearance.
It's a thumb turn euro cylinder if that makes any difference so it can be turned from the inside of the door, would that do what the key would normally do from the outside?
Also I am pretty sure the cylinder that was bought for me by my brother (no idea what we were doing/needed to measure so he guessed in the shop) is slightly to small length wise, does this actually matter? I don't care about how secure it actually is, just need to be able to lock the door, no one will try and break in
@@deangaryjames Not at all, I changed this not long after the video. Wasn’t too bad actually, the barrel broke in half quite quickly allowing me to pull out and open the door with a screwdriver and fit the new lock.
Hi, great video. Just a question for you. The lock on my door is about 1ft down from the door handle. I've tried taking out the barrel but it doesn't want to move and I'm worried about forcing it. Any ideas? Thanks
Is the moving part of the barrel perfectly straight? If not, it won't budge. I'm sure you've tried the tweak the angle of the key slightly to try to move the barrel.
@@matskieden511 See my reply above, is there a recessed screw holding it in place? Also remember to wiggle the key once the screw is removed to get the central part in line
Damn i wish i seen this earlier lol locksmith was asking for 150££ to change and made it out like it was a hard job lol after watching this video i realised how hard it is 😂 😂😂

£4 crowbar would've done the job just as well to keep the lodger out
@@-V33-Did consider that as a viable option, but as crackheads don’t feel pain like we do, I went for plan B 😄

Thanks fella
I struggle like heck to remove the barrel until I watched your video - thanks to you all sorted now in less than 10 mins 👍

Something I will need to do shortly. So glad I saw this. Made simple and easy to follow instructions. Thank you.
Thanks for this video , im now changing all 3 locks by myself and saving a small fortune in the process and it's so simple
Thanks for this, my door would not lock. I took the barrel out, cleaned it, oiled it and re-aligned it, I did not even need a new lock!
One of the best diy's I've seen.

Well done mate. Clear instructions with a cool approach. Loved the "Happy Days" conclusion. I'll start using the expression myself. Cheers

Great video was not sure why lock would not come out but after seeing your video with the key still in barrel, Cheers !!
Thank you very much for sharing this video. After watching it, I managed to change my front door lock today . Really appreciate your tutorial 😊

Amazing mate cheers ! Its defo the little things in life 😊
well done you've fitted a oversized inferior lock to what you had on before, that's why you pay for a locksmith they know what they're doing
Thank you , great tutorial I will be giving it a go
Worked a treat for me. Thank you.

How do you change it if it if the door won't open?
Great video I can't get my barrel out as the key has snapped in my lock and unable to line it up to withdraw my old barrel any help would e apreciated
Sorry if someone has already asked, but I can’t get the barrel out no matter how much jiggling I do with the key on or not 😢 Any idea?
You might have to take the handle off first, the barrel might have lugs on the top of it.
What do you do if the door is locked, jammed shut though?
When the key is straight, should the black part of the lock be flush or stick out a little bit?
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge much appreciated.
This is very clear, thanks
Thanks so much so simple we'll explained.
What if you don't have the original key? And there's been a break in..if you know what I mean
Brilliant video. Thank you!
So you’ve just saved me, £150.00 thank you very much
What if you didnt have the key and the lock was drilled from the outside to open the door? How do I get the cylinder out of the door?

How you change it if you've lost your key and the door is locked
Great video. Thank you 😊
Hi Tim if I’ve lost the key is it still possible to change the barrel?
Did you find the answer this is my issue
Thanks. Great vid!
Hi can you take the barrel out without a key?
Thank you for saving me calliout!
Your accent has me so mesmerized, I didn't follow a thing you said.. 😇
I’ve lost my key for my patio doors, my doors locked. Would I just need to use brute force to snap the retaining screw to pull barrel out? Thanks
You will wreck the door

Good video but i would still put key in door outside just to make sure it opens the door maybe

Thanks mate top one
if your changing your lock I would recomend you get a "snap safe" cylinder
Thank you 👍🏼
Thank you!
Good jod lad, ramp up the enthusiasm a bit and the bid becomes more shareable.
Why didn't you buy an anti snap lock?
Nice one
Perfect many thanks
Legend mate
Nice one pal.
nice one
Great. Thanks.
thank you
Should have fitted a 3 star anti snap lock. Lock looks too long for the door and is sticking out too far at the front . Easy to snap it.
Nice and easy 🎉😂
Thank you..
Thanks!!!!
that new cylinder is less secure than original as it does not have break off section
