THANK YOU! This was exactly the fault with my door. I couldn't get the barrel out but shuggled it from both sides with the keys in and eventually got it in the correct position. No cost and a good deal of self satisfaction.
@@aaanton11 how do you change the lock plus what r those round bolts on the uPVC doors there's 4 of them that hook onto the frame do I need to take them off
This has happened few times with our door. We do this without taking the handle and lock out. One person stands outside with key and other person inside. Put the keys in at same time and just turn them and wiggle them as shown in this video. After few attempts should resolve. Great video very well explained.
THANK YOU!!!!!! We had this exact problem. My husband was all set to call a locksmith when I checked out your video and suggested we give it a try. Our lock barrel was exactly the same as yours so we just wiggled with two keys and voila! GENIUS thank you for your kind help and excellent video. Never been so satisfied to be able to take a key out of a lock before in my life...will be thanking you for months and months to come!
You, good sir, are an absolute legend and life saver! Only one thing to say was that I first of all thought that the black lever thing had to be totally at the 6 0'clock position and kept thinking i had it wrong because i could only take the keys out when it was slightly off centre. I then rewatched the video and noticed that this was actually the correct position for it to be in. But thank you, absolutely brilliant video!
Yes I did the same, spent way too long trying to get the lever flush with the barrel, could get it on one side but then the key on the other was slightly making the leaver protrude by 3/4 cm, then I realised your not supposed to have 2 keys in at same time working the lock, so the one side you use in or outvworjs perfectly, it lines up and you can remove the key in the locked or unlocked positions. Once I realised this was just to re fix the problem we had caused because of having 2 keys in at the same time it became obvious and the slightly protruding lever on one side was in spec. RUclips videos at fixing problems is a real game changer..
Brilliant, thanks for this had my key stuck in the lock and wouldn't turn to lock the door or come out. Followed your video, took handles off, found another key for the outside and tried wiggling both to free up the barrel, but it wouldn't come out. Managed to get a metal skewer and lift the locking pin up and a flathead screwdriver to push the pin across and the door locked and the barrel freed up. Pulled barrel out and gave it a good coating of wd40 and now works great. All back together now and a secure home again.
This happened to our back door about six months ago and I just put up with locking it and having the key stuck in it, because I couldn't find anything online that helped at all. But then the front door just went 20mins ago and I luckily happened upon this vid; Thank you so much, both doors are now fixed, saving me loads of money and stress. I can't thank you enough, top man!!
Hi Ant, Thank you so much for the video. I had exactly the same problem and removed the three bolts that you removed to try and extract the barrel from the lock/door. For some reason I couldn't get the barrel out, but seeing the method you used to jiggle the keys from either end of the barrel I gave that a go with the barrel still in the lock/door. It worked ! Would never have been able to fix without your video showing me what the problem was and how to overcome it. Thanks again Ant.
Thank you so much for this video. We've had trouble for months so we were about to call a locksmith. Saved us money and taught us how fix door locks in the future 😁

@@aaanton11 as a locksmith i can tell you that thumbturns are easily opened from outside with very little skill i personally wont have them on any external door on my home and i always advocate against them
Could you let me know how you did that please. As I am currently having trouble with the Back door lock. I unlocked a door from the outside that was locked on the inside and had keys stuck in it. I eventually got my keys out but I think the Lock is not working properly. Like I have to lock the door to get my key out now. The bars on the lock are acting the opposite way that they should be.
Many thanks, having spent a hour and half taking two doors apart I realised the door lock was out of sync, I was about to order a lock when I thought I'd check RUclips for a solution. The fiddling of the keys seemed to be doing nothing and then it was all back in line, saved me the cost and hassle of ordering a new lock
We tried this and it’s very important to point out that the barrel lock won’t necessarily be parallel as ours wasn’t doing that, we went to get a new lock only to realise the new lock (black bit in the middle) was not parallel either. It came out slightly to the left (from inside) So just make sure your key turns out despite it not being level.
yes yes yes I wiggled the 2 keys as you suggested and it has worked No need to even buy a new barrel. As a woman Im so pleased I 've sorted it on my own with your help . many thanks !
I want to say you saved my Christmas. A mishap with two people opening the front door at the same time. I though i'd have to call out a locksmith. A bit of google-fu led me to you. So watched your vid, 15 mins later it is sorted. Thank you for this vid. You Sir are a life saver

We had been struggling for weeks with our jamming front door key, even having to come in thru the back sometimes. After your video, and only ten minutes later we have a front door that opens like a knife thru butter. Amazing video! Thank you.
Useful video! A word of Caution! The barrels can come in LOTS of different sizes. Measure the total length of the barrel in mm's. Then measure from the centre of the screw hole to the end of the barrel on Both Ends because the screw hole is not in the middle. Use these numbers to get the right size barrel. You can also do this without taking the handles off. Just use your finger to poke it out.
Brilliant video! My father in law knackered the door and we’ve had to open the door, go in the house, open the back door and then go back outside, lock the front door and go round the back! Sorted in five minutes thanks to this video!
This has just happened to me and im very grateful that you put this solution on RUclips. At first I thought it was the barrel so bought a new one but didn't open the packaging. ( So I can return it for a refund tomorrow 😁) I removed the barrel, found it seemed to work correctly and was starting to think it was the actual door handle mechanism , i think its known as the gearbox . Then i found your fantastic video explaining the issue and as i watched it, realised that my two were out of sync... I hope the cool side of your pillow gives you the comfort you require in the coming summer months and that you never stub your toe just before getting into bed ❤
Thank you for door lock video , last night our patio door lock went just like you showed on video, we had planed to call a lock smith out tomorrow, Following your advice with two keys I tried for some time with no success, Because my wife was nagging the way i was doing it , I said in frustration you do it then , My goodness she did it in about a minute 😃 not bad for a girl in her seventies, thanks again for your helpful advice which has saved us time and money. 👍
Legend thank you for showing this, I couldn't fix my lock but I learn how to remove the mechanism and replace it for a new one, last month it costed me 150 quid the same and now 11 pounds from the shop
Thanks so much! Worked for me... I was about to call out a locksmith and or even just go to buy a new cylinder. This saved me money at a time when I really need to look after every penny. Thanks mate!!!
Awesome video. Must have saved me at least £70 - would have wasted money getting a locksmith in without this. Took about 3 minutes to fix it after watching this.
Came home. Mrs in bed and left keys in the lock on the inside. It's happened many times before. So I put my key in. Obv it doesn't go all the way in. But in the past I push hard from the outside to try and dislodge the inside key. It worked kind of. But I had to turn my key really hard. And then it was stuck in the outside lock. This worked but took me nearly 1 and a half hrs as my barrel is now effed. But managed to get both keys out and shut the door properly. So thank you for this other wise I would of had to leave my keys in the outside lock all night. New lock to be purchased tomorrow! A+ for this vid mate.
Thank you! This worked. I was worried I had to replace the lock and waste money to get a locksmith but this was a 5 min resolution. In my case I didnt have to take the lock out, inserted keys on both sides, jiggled it, and it was sorted.
Did mine do this on a hot day? No, howling wind and buckets of rain being thrown at my front door! I didn't think for a second I'd find an answer when I searched - so big thanks! I did have to re-watch as my fiddling did actually sort it out but I didn't realise. I popped the barrel back in and bingo! Even managed to sort it with the door open for only a few seconds - so doubly helpful. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks for this, the tinkering didn’t work unfortunately but your suggestion to buy a new barrel did, fitted it myself and saved us a £150 call out charge!
I just fixed my father's door, 2 people put their keys in at exact same time which caused the problem i knew nothing about, fortunately youtube is a great place to find problems others have had, my dad had already priced up a potential £100 to fix the problem. A locksmith would have earned that for ten minutes work and claimed its got new internal parts you can't see. I don't want to put people out of earning but doing this myself was quick and easy and not worth £100. You will always find someone on youtube thats had your problem before and made a video, i would be shocked if i was the first, fortunately its not happened yet.. thanks for the great video.
Helpful video; thanks. I had a guy call to the door yesterday after calling a locksmith and he quoted me £150 to replace the lock. When I tried to negotiate, citing I could find a new lock myself for £14 his argument was "but there's VAT on that"... Hmmm...needless to say I wasn't persuaded but thanks to this was able to go out, buy a new lock & fit it saving over £100.
Thank you so much, i thought I'd buggered my front door after unlovking it when someone had left a key in the other side, i was able to do this without taking the handle off but it helped explain what was actually wrong, youre a life saver
Mate, I've been fiddling around with this Euro cylinder all morning, not understanding why everything seemed to be working fine when out of the door and just not realising the obvious, in that everything needs to be in line and flush. I was dreading it being the internal door mechanism! I got the lock back out of the door (again) and in the vice as a third hand, a key in both ends and a bit of key wiggling for a minute, then both keys lined up and synchronised. It's all gone back together and tested in just a couple of minutes. I've learnt something useful I can share. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this video mate. You saved me 50 odd quid. The missus was bugging me to call a locksmith and all the time it was a straight forward fix. Legend
Thankyou so much for this video.I just got home from work and could not get the key out of my front door. Followed your instructions and hey presto worked a treat. Thankyou again.
I cnt say how much I'm greatful for finding this. Just back from work and key stuck in the door really strucggle untill seen your clip. Thank you so much.
I looked at two other videos before I followed this one. My door is only 1 key entry on the outside. It still worked for my door . I was thinking can I do this and yes it worked. I did add some a bit of WD-40 to the barrel. saved me a lot of money. Now I can go out as this was fixed in minutes. Thanks 👍💪
This is exactly what my issue was....I nearly changed the whole mechanism because I thought that had broke.....I just happened to come onto this video and took e 5 minutes to fix BRILLIANT
Mate this is the most helpful video ever ! I’d gave up on our front door , been going round to use back door for 2 weeks now, was gonna call someone tmw to replace the whole door ( could do with a new one soon) I’ve just watched this and done it in the dark, fixed it … if u ever find yourself in Hull il buy u a few beers .. 😊
Briliant video - thankyou for sharing. Out of interest I took the barrel out and "did the wiggle" and couldn't resolve the problem at first. I then remembered I wasn't using the normal front door key (which is on the car key ring). As soon as I used this, I was instantly able to re-locate the cam. Turns out the normal key is so worn that it allows this to happen and thus the reason for the problem in the first case.
Another big thankyou, just about to go and replacement barrel ! Followed your instructions apart from removing door handles in my case. Adjusted key alignment, which was out. Put back in . Job done . Very big thankyou for this video, saved me money. Great stuff 👍
Brilliant Video and it fixed mine in about 5 minutes after it took me 10 mins to find this video!! Mine was exactly like yours. The cam was at about "1 O'Clock" with both keys centred and removed. After the fix it's at about "5 O'Clock" Thanks so much - Always learning! Liked, Subscribed and there is a Super Thanks below 🙂

Glad it helped, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Absolute legend my friend. Lock sorted in under 5 minutes. Every other video involved the c clips or lock picks. Job done 👌
Glad to help Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you! This worked. I was worried I had to replace the lock and waste money to get a locksmith but this was a 5 min resolution. In my case I didnt have to take the lock out, inserted keys on both sides, jiggled it, and it was sorted.
Well Done, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you!!! You’ve saved me getting a locksmith out. Job done in 3 mins.
Glad I could help Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Did mine do this on a hot day? No, howling wind and buckets of rain being thrown at my front door! I didn't think for a second I'd find an answer when I searched - so big thanks! I did have to re-watch as my fiddling did actually sort it out but I didn't realise. I popped the barrel back in and bingo! Even managed to sort it with the door open for only a few seconds - so doubly helpful. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for this, the tinkering didn’t work unfortunately but your suggestion to buy a new barrel did, fitted it myself and saved us a £150 call out charge!
Well done, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I just fixed my father's door, 2 people put their keys in at exact same time which caused the problem i knew nothing about, fortunately youtube is a great place to find problems others have had, my dad had already priced up a potential £100 to fix the problem. A locksmith would have earned that for ten minutes work and claimed its got new internal parts you can't see. I don't want to put people out of earning but doing this myself was quick and easy and not worth £100. You will always find someone on youtube thats had your problem before and made a video, i would be shocked if i was the first, fortunately its not happened yet.. thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Helpful video; thanks. I had a guy call to the door yesterday after calling a locksmith and he quoted me £150 to replace the lock. When I tried to negotiate, citing I could find a new lock myself for £14 his argument was "but there's VAT on that"... Hmmm...needless to say I wasn't persuaded but thanks to this was able to go out, buy a new lock & fit it saving over £100.
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you so much, i thought I'd buggered my front door after unlovking it when someone had left a key in the other side, i was able to do this without taking the handle off but it helped explain what was actually wrong, youre a life saver
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Mate, I've been fiddling around with this Euro cylinder all morning, not understanding why everything seemed to be working fine when out of the door and just not realising the obvious, in that everything needs to be in line and flush. I was dreading it being the internal door mechanism!
I got the lock back out of the door (again) and in the vice as a third hand, a key in both ends and a bit of key wiggling for a minute, then both keys lined up and synchronised. It's all gone back together and tested in just a couple of minutes. I've learnt something useful I can share.
Thank you.

Thanks 👍💪

I’d gave up on our front door , been going round to use back door for 2 weeks now, was gonna call someone tmw to replace the whole door ( could do with a new one soon) I’ve just watched this and done it in the dark, fixed it … if u ever find yourself in Hull il buy u a few beers .. 😊
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Briliant video - thankyou for sharing. Out of interest I took the barrel out and "did the wiggle" and couldn't resolve the problem at first. I then remembered I wasn't using the normal front door key (which is on the car key ring). As soon as I used this, I was instantly able to re-locate the cam. Turns out the normal key is so worn that it allows this to happen and thus the reason for the problem in the first case.
Thanks Dave for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 No problem - really appreciate you posting this 👍
Another big thankyou, just about to go and replacement barrel ! Followed your instructions apart from removing door handles in my case. Adjusted key alignment, which was out. Put back in . Job done . Very big thankyou for this video, saved me money. Great stuff 👍
