I will say, Grand Currents is my absolute FAVORITE album from these guys... while I miss the old stuff, I do respect the brothers behind the music just as much as the music itself and how they aren't afraid to blaze their own trail. I fully support what the guys are doing here though, one song a month is pretty neat and I've never seen it done before! I'm going to keep jamming to the first 3 records from Hammerhedd, but I'm also excited to see what they got in the next 11 songs this year (wow!)

They started with metal because that's what they liked, but ever since they've started experimenting with new styles they've really begun to take an original shape as opposed to trying to emulate the sound of their heroes and inspirations. That's probably the coolest thing about Hammerhedd, seeing their journey from their metal origins into whatever they are shaping themselves into. I believe that they are still largely in the process of finding their sound and style, but what ever it is, is something new. That's the most exiting part about this band. It's gonna really interesting to see what people from the metal generations are creating ( though yes, people like Ed Sheeran are metal heads as well but he went a more traditional and safe path rather than trying to find something new). Especially since metal is a really unique and diverse genre ( yes all genres are, but still).
I also cannot hate on them for not limiting themselves musically, but imo just start a new band with a new name if you are taking this drastic of a leap away from the metal material Hammerhed does not really vibe with the ben folds direction they are going imo

If you listen to the fans you will be selling records, if you listen to your heart you will make a quality contribution to the musical ethos which is what really matters. In many things simpler is better than too complex.
