    And that’s why he survived Hollywood. So well grounded and mature. He realized it was a job and not who he was. I’m glad he’s still acting and putting out great movies.

    Funny how he said he'd like to come back as a Bird and he did in a sense as Marty Byrde in Ozark, one of the best shows on Netflix. He hasn't changed much, still has that calm demeanor and that sly smile like he's up to something or knows something you don't yet. Great clip!

      He was acting. Child actors learn to act mature and sacrifice their innocence in return. Ever watch the Disney channel? It’ll make you nauseas. Children don’t act like adults yet that’s exactly how the characters behave on television.

    This was a deep interview, Johnny was treating him like an adult. It would be a different interview with Fallon with a lot of giggling. I was too young to see Carson but he seems so quick witted with a mix of humor, intelligence and kindness.

Only this interview I missed & I remember watching Jason Bateman in “It’s Your Move.” Recently as an adult he was in a very funny movie called “Paul.”. Thank goodness for you tube! You tube has videos you can see no where else on this planet!

    I’ve been a fan of Jason since the first season of arrested development. And now watching him in Ozark is incredible. It’s amazing how he can play a funny role, and a dramatic role and nail them both! That’s rare!

      I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I was laughing so hard I woke my wife up. she started laughing right along when she realized what she was seeing which Honestly has been a really good source of happiness for me ever since I lost my wife so many years ago which infact broke me to pieces so seeing comments like this makes me smile.

    Who else misses Johnny Carson? I remember my parents watching him every night when I was young. Then when I grew up and got married, my husband and I watched him every night. The good old days for sure.

      Everyone misses Johnny. He was the Best of Late Night TV. Leno was great too, but not as good as Johnny of course..I'll also say Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert, and Corden are AWFUL at Late Night. They're all not funny at all. The segments are terrible. The jokes are just bad. Late night just stinks today. I stopped watching after Leno left The Tonight Show in 2014.

    Jason really epitomizes someone who is gifted with memory skill intelligence and at such a young age is able to actuate it. Rare and amazing. He’s literally just tickled about it and can’t hide it. Innocence like this is rare and fleeting. Fascinating to watch.

    This is why I liked Carson. He just talked to his guests and interviewed them. He didn't constantly try to make jokes or be condescending like letterman. Letterman would have interrupted him constantly with jokes about his age

      There must be an enormous amount of pressure as a teenager in show business, and it must be quite a scary world for a young man. But the young Bateman is able to possess himself with class, poise, and an uncanny level-headedness, because he knows that, no matter what, there's always money in the banana stand.

    Carson was the best talk show host period didn’t try to make everything funny or a joke he was always genuinely interested and loving for his guests it’s too bad we don’t have anyone like this anymore who wants to relate and get to know his guests.

    He's so poised, sharp witted, articulate, intelligent, and just so charming for 15! When I was 15 all the guys were jerks, and bad boys. I cried myself to sleep many times! 😅 One of my favorite actors today, and always have crushed on him.😍 Just re-watched "The Gift" , "Identity Theft" , "Game Night" and "Thunder Force." He is so good, with impeccable comedic timing. Let's not forget OZARK! Excellent actor, and great person.💞

      I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I was laughing so hard I woke my wife up. she started laughing right along when she realized what she was seeing which Honestly has been a really good source of happiness for me ever since I lost my wife so many years ago which infact broke me to pieces so seeing comments like this makes me smile.

    I remember '84 pretty well. People were expected to behave a certain way when on a talk show. In fact, it always seemed like the kids were faced with a higher standard than the adults. If an adult acted goofy, he was "eccentric" and "interesting". If a kid of 15 got too silly, he'd be called immature, unequipped to handle the limelight and not yet ready to be at that level.
    That being said... Jason Bateman's intellect, insight and composure at that age was pretty damn amazing even for a higher standard.
    Johnny Carson always seemed to bring out the best in all of his guests with his sincerity and authenticity. He was the epitome of class and talent.

      The word Inflation was used a lot more often then. Interest rate on a savings account was 12%. Even a kid would notice when the price of a piece of penny candy went from 3 cents to 5 cents.

      @@kevinbailey8827 You're right. Apparently, US inflation rate peaked at around 14% in 1980. Inflation rate declined gradually after this time but I would imagine the recent recessions, energy crises, high inflation etc would be popular topics of discussion and debate at that time.

    He looks so confident and relaxed, and acts like an adult while on JohnnyCarson. His voice sounds the same as today too. I remember him on Silver Spoons as the trouble maker....but liked him on Arrested Development the most.

      @@guyinsf when he started to act one of the first things he learned through an acting coach was to create favorable circumstances that increase the chances of success or effectiveness! All actors are taught this or most. It's not a hard word to understand or use in a conversation if the conversation is about succeeding at something. It's all about who brought you up and much of what you were taught you used it to your advantage!
