  • and now, back to our irregularly scheduled programming...
I "recently" saw a video about "Best Doctor Who Cliffhangers" and noted that there was a distressing amount of Classic Who Cliffhangers, in fact, I think it only totalled around 3 while the remaining 7 were NuWho related. I am rectifying this grave injustice with a series covering the best and worst Doctor Who Cliffhangers.

Those two moments when his voice falters...

Immense sympathy for Colin. He’s a great actor, and he’s obviously giving it all he can. Just a shame so many scripts fell so flat in my opinion. Still great video as usual, brings back great memories. Would have liked to see the Revelations cliffhanger; just for the absurdity

Nope. He was awful. Totally miscast. Not EVERYONE can play the doctor.
Other doctors had some bad scripts too. But THEY were still good.

@@shaz2761respectfully, I disagree. I think there are enough stories were he shines and shows he is in fact a very good actor that makes me wonder what could have been had things gone his way behind the scenes. Vengeance on varos stands out as an exceptional story and his acting sells what is one of my favourite cliffhangers in classic who. And the scripts really do make a difference. McCoy is probably my favourite classic doctor but I still find most of his first season very poor. He also looks a much worse actor than he is in that season due to nigh on incompetent scripts.

It's funny watching The Twin Dilemma because his performance comes out of the gate so strong and assured, it's just a shame it's in service of some of the most ill-judged creative decisions you could possibly imagine.

The Trial Part 8 cliffhanger is actually really great.

Vengeance on Varos cliffhanger would’ve been great if it werent for the LEGELELELELELELELEHELELE sound at the end.

Amazed 'The Mark of the Rani' wasn't included.... the TARDIS Slung down the mine, then the Doctor almost following shortly after...

Always found the build up better than the cliffhanger, especially because the shots of Colin rolling towards the mine aren’t that impressive nor menacing given the music choice.

Love Trial part 9 cliff-hanger - I saw it on original transmission as a terrified young kid. I know it's not on the list but Twin Dilemma part 2 had the potential to be great cliff-hanger if the exploding dome (which is a fantastic model effect) blended straight into the closing sting / theme music. Vengeance on Varos part 1 is an excellent cliff-hanger - i remember showing that sequence to a friend who had never seen it before and he was surprised how good the desert hallucination effect was and he said the look / design of Sil was great.

It's a shame the Valleyard never returned again, I would have loved to see the Doctor face off with him again.

Yet another Colin Baker hater who discovers everything negative thing they have said about his era is utterly untrue!

@@rnw2739 Well, not really, I wouldn't call myself a Colin Baker-hater. He is a competent actor, I wouldn't deny it, but I don't think he had the charisma for the Doctor. (I have heard that he was fantastic on stage.)
However, the main thing is, by the time he got the role, the scripts were just terrible. It was terrible shoddy TV.

I love Colin baker as the sixth doctor but can ever doctor who fan just arery on trial of the time is not that really good of a doctor who story in my own opinion but I do like part one to four and part 12 and part 5 to 12 but the cliffhanger don't age well and bonnie Langford just scream all the time she is on screen but the opening shot at the start of part one is amazing but why do series 23 of classic Dr who have to be the trial of a time lord
