anyone else be like 7 year old me, and give your rival a name of '???' because that's how it appears when he battles you and you wanted to give the police accurate information?
Yup lol I always did it since he literally says, "my name is ???"
I named my rival Boy
I first played johto on 3ds and called him ron after ron from harry potter
I’m so glad I’m not the only one that did this 😂
I totally did this but I was like 10 or 11 when this came out
I like how the guide is like: "You played red/blue? Yeah? So you know Kanto. Go figure the rest out by yourself. I ain't help with this."
I mean the guide writer isn't wrong though. Grass types are screwed in Johto
19:16 the Rocket Grunt tells you he hid the part in the water in the gym after you beat him on the bridge.
Yup, just gotta surf around while hitting "A" everywhere. Or at least that's how I figured it out as a kid.
I honestly thought you had to beat the Rocket for the item to spawn when I was a kid. It wasn't until fairly recently that I learned that it spawned from talking to the Plant Manager.
My kryptonite is Yo Mama jokes and the quick deadpan delivery gets me everytime.
7:41 Sir, this is a Whitney's.
I miss those times. You couldn't ask internet for help, you just hoped that you would find that kid in the playground who had beat the game for some tips. We didn't understand english at the time, so beating the game was actually an important goal. The thrill when you face the first legendary, the stakes when battling the champion... Pure nostalgia...
yOu CaN gEt ToGePi FrOm tHe MaN oN CiNnAbAr GyM
Yes i loved it. I still know that i didn't know how to continue after the 7th Gym because you have to go to the Radio Tower before being able to enter the 8th Gym. So i just fought wild Pokémon in the grass until someone told me
"we didn't understand English" speak for yourself
@@0condolencesYou're an idiot. When he says "we" he is referring to his friends and "kids at the playground" who are all presumably from a country that primary language is not English.
@@0condolences They were. No need to be a prick.
Funny thing about not evolving Sunkern, as a kid I didn't know that Sunkern evolved with a sun stone, and I levelled mine up to 50 before figuring it out
If you feel better about it, I also used this damn Spiky-eared Pichu in SoulSilver in the hope it would learn some new moves...
*my brother in Christ*
I did opposite lol I was convinced dunsparce evolved and kept that stupid thing with me til end of game lol
@@milancerpwns9358i mean, it can _now_
"Search the grass here for awhile - you never know what you'll run into."
On my first playthrough when I was 13 years old. In this grass, I found a shiny Drowzee. My first ever shiny. I will always remember that.
I think it's a reference to the random swarms of yanma that can come up in the grass there.
-Hates grass types
-Loves Geodude
-Thinks flying type is a hindrance
I think this guide was made by Brock
Well, there you go. I grew up playing Gold, and I always thought Spinarak was the quintessential Gen 2 Bug 😅
6:25 excuse me? XD
The joke was at 6:30 XD
@@rawrwata5289yeah, I kinda wanted to link it so that it can be listened to from the beginning :D
“Search the grass, you never know what you may find..” I encountered Raikou and Entei each on that route. Failed to capture though.
7:40 Man, that's totally a Wendy's restaurant! Never gonna see Whitney the same way again hahaha
Lance Lvl 47 Dragonite: ......
Me Lvl 48 Dragonair: dude wtf??
Often during a video there will be a moment I particularly enjoy or makes me laugh that makes me think “Ooo I better hit the Like button before I forget” and in this video... it was when you met Kurt 😄
12:35 Honestly I feel like a lot of the people who complain about gen 2 have only watched challenge runs of it, it's still plenty fun to play casually.
Definitely
I love this series. It is incredibly cozy and always a great way to start or end my day. Thanks PaPaSea!
I always thought the moving center tower in bellsprout tower was a gameboy color ☠️☠️☠️
Wait, you can turn off the grunts alarms? Never knew that. xD
I often forogt Lugia used to be depicted as having black spikes
I remember my togepi evolved at level 12. Buddy was like how it evolved so early I joked and said guess it liked me.
I had to stop the video to comment how I had no clue there were cameras in that hideout and that you didn’t have to fight all those grunts 😂
New speedrun challenge: Get Sunkern to level 46 without rare candies, exp share, etc.
'But it may be tuesday the day you watch it'
It is indeed.
It is technically Tuesday as I watch this too, since it's past midnight
Furet not only learns all the same moves as sentrent, doesnt learn any move past level 48, but also learns its moves 1, 3, 5 and 7 levels above sentrent for each new move. Crazy how each level up move is +2 more compared to the pre evolution.
A character in gen 1 actually talks about that sort of thing, saying that while Pokemon get stronger upon evolving, keeping it from evolving can let it learn moves faster. The character is even debating evolving their Pokemon because of this.
It is very weird that the guide claims Furret doesn't gain a new move until level 80. They are right that it can be beneficial to hold off on evolving Sentret to learn moves a bit faster, but their information is just wrong...
The hidden Your Mom jokes have quickly become my favorite part of these.
Yessss
Can't help but disagree
@@Guimhjeh, i guess you resemble your dad then. Your mom never disagrees with me on bed
9:38 It’s Tuesday morning when I was watching this!
"Nope it's just Whitney which is equally as terrifying."
You good sir, have both taste, and class.
The strategy guide I got for these games had a misprint in the Ice Path map: one boulder in the first big ice puzzle was one spot out of place, making it seem like there was no way through!
2:30 first complete mistake: Furret after evolving learns: Fury Swipes at 18, Slam at 28, Rest at 38, and Amnesia at 48 NO LEVEL 80 MOVE Guide!
I think I misread that one looking back at it now
Great video, but it wasn't Tuesday when I was watching. 9/10
This series is back!
Now do it again with the Nintendo Power guide for the game.
I did, in fact, watch this on a Tuesday.
The only people that think whitney is a difficult fight or people who use the cindiquil line.
Damn @6:33 i have no comeback
I thought he meant the in game mother and was really confused at first. Had to rewind and get roasted 3 times before I got it.
Damn today is Monday. I knew I should’ve waited until tomorrow to watch
Oh goodie! I LOVE this series. Thanks for doing these ones too
Gen 2 was the best. The fact they haven't ported the games to switch is wild
Why do that when they can milk the fans with a crappy Go aesthetic to a "remake" of Gen 2? I know it's happening, the two Let's Go games sold very well after all.
Unless of course, they're waiting for the 30th anniversary in a couple years to re-release the first 3 gens on the Switch (or it's rumored successor). Who knows at this point with the reveal of Pokémon Legends: AZ...
@MLPIceberg they need to remake gen 2 again like they did with heart gold soul silver but for the switch or whatever next gen console. They could throw in some added content for them. But to be honest the gaming companies don't focus on quality games now they just push out whatever crap they know will make quick money like the lets go bs so all this is wishful thinking.
Seeing this brought back memories. I remember getting Pokémon sliver for Christmas, I was over the moon and past the stars. I remember playing sliver on the school bus on the way to school because it was the only time to get Ledyba, and I insisted on using it because Ledian looked cool. I also remember being so excited over the day/night cycle for some reason. I also got my first shiny in silver, a Furret on route one. Too bad I like to reset Pokémon games.
Atomic purple gameboy color! Let's gooooo!!!! Twinsies!
Also, my first pokemon game was Silver too. Loving the video already
I think you're the second person I've ever seen on the internet in over 15 years to use Celtic Guardian as a pfp. lol
It is one of my favorite cards. After the Legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon, of course~
@MLPIceberg Celtic guardian kills blue eyes! Took out 1 head of ultimate dragon, and was about to take out a second.
Original art reminded me of adult link from ocarina of time (probs my fave video game ever), so became my favorite card. (Visually, not for use) (that's mystic mine)
Should see my collection of Celtic Guardians
(2:23) Where does the guide get "80(!)" from?! Furret's next move after evolving at level 15 is Fury Swipes at level 18. Maybe whoever was writing that part of the guide misheard "18" as "80" when someone else was telling them what to write?
(16:06) Actually, it's Dragonair for Rhydon, and it sounds like you'd get a Dragonair if you traded her a Rhydon.
(19:15) When you defeat the Rocket Grunt that stole the part, I believe he actually tells you that he hid it in the water in Cerulean Gym.
Oh man I had that exact guide when I got gold and my first Gameboy color for Christmas of 2000. I was 7. Man the very beginning of Pokémon is so nostalgic for me
The best times 👍🏼
The best days. These games were so much better than the newer crap out now
"You could always catch and raise two different Sunkern" Who has time for that, in this generation? Not only that they think I have the patience to try to win the bug catching contest two times?! Whoever wrote this guide is insane
That stuff about the Furret was wild
Pokémon likes to remake old games (RGBY -> FRLG, GSC -> HGSS, etc) but can we please get remakes of remakes? i want another Johto game
Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee
I'm envisioning a "Pokemon Let's Go Togepi & Tyrogue" or something
@@DigiRangerScott tbh not a big fan of Let’s Go.
@@carlrygwelski586Togepi and Marill
@@Che1ito ohh that's a good pick
I never really played Gold/Silver as a kid, I started with Pearl and played Crystal some time before HGSS came out. But this video made me feel nostalgic lol
Bugsy's gender is a matter of debate :).
I used to think Slowbro evolved into Slowking, guide author is like me :)
It is Tuesday when I am watching this
Red is a goat, Ash just doesn't try to get good Pokemon
It was indeed a tuesday when i watched this
Today is Tuesday March 26 2024
Just thought I’d let you know lol
Sentret doesn't learn Psychic.
When I was a kid I got this guide as a gift but I only had and played red also yellow. Eventually got silver.
huh the Furret thing is wrong haha
it learns Slam at 28 (25 for Senret)
Rest at 38 (33 for Senret)
Amnesia at 48 (41 for Senret)
and nothing beyond that
So that should be damaging move untill 28
This isn't an "official" guide, only the Nintendo Power guides were actually developed and approved by Nintendo directly. This is just a licensed 3rd party book.
Ayo with whitney i would win with my rage croconaw setting up on her clefairy
This guide isnt very nice to grass types >:(
That's coz most grass types suck
Another glaring issue in the guide that was not mentioned in this video (7:02) the page on Bugsy said "her" twice... not just the anime, but the game text from the "yo, champ in the making" guy says Bugsy is a boy 😜
20:35 But Red's team does have similarities to Ash's team. Ash is the reason that Red has a Pikachu, a Snorlax, and all three Kanto Starter families.
Ash and Red are not the exact same charcter, but they are multiversal counterparts. Nobody can claim the two are unrelated.
Yesss let’s go! Super hype when I clicked this
I really hope they do another Johto remake (and improve the chikorita line) or have chikorita as a starter in a future legends game because I really like the chikorita line, but it's just not good
I had the strategy guide with lugia on one side And Ho oh on the other.
Edit: ps apple watch tf😅😅
Edit: pps did you beat Whitney 1st try?😅
the rocket grunt you beat tells you where the machine part is. The grunt you NEED to beat to get the machine part.
The machine part doesn't even spawn until after you beat that grunt and he tells you where it is in broken english
Man I had a COMPLETELY different guide to this game as a kid.
Great vid! Except for the part where you said you considered Ledyba to be the quintessential gen 2 Bug type when Scizor and Heracross are RIGHT THERE??
I think its fitting that totodile evolved in the underground. Like the idea of alligators in the sewers
Watch out for an albino one... Leon says he has nightmares about that one.
Nah 14:52
I don’t remember this Croconaw sprite; it’s got a Slick-back thing goin on, I love it 😂
Shouts out to gamefaqs for helping me solve almost every situation back in the day. And its still used to this day.
I thought the point of these was to follow the guide exactly. Half of the time you've just gone off and done something against the guides instructions. Shame, it was an interesting concept while it lasted.
It is, in fact, Tuesday, when I am watching this video. Thank you for noticing me!
To be fair, I always thought Bugsy was just a really brave girl until HGSS.
I love these video...
Right way to play pokemon... 100% sub
I like this content, well worth watching
Pokemon gold and silver are my favorites. This brought back some great memories
Wait a minute Furret's level up moves are the same as Sentret's, it just learns them a few levels later. Why does the guide *lie* ?
apple copied pokegear.pokegear:1999, apple watch:2015.🤯🤯🤯
I think you should have caught a miltank and named it MandJTV as he hates the thing and it would have been funny
9:45 - it's tuesday when I am watching lol
As I recall, wherever I pre-ordered my version of Gold from, they were doing a bundle deal where it came with this particular guide. Or maybe they were just upselling the guide to people who bought the game, either way, I got this guide with my copy of the game. It was pretty helpful overall!
Interesting that you've used Persona 5 OST.
I’m not sure if this has been said before, but how come you don’t say “as Nintended”?
Watching on 4/23/24. Can confirm, it is indeed Tuesday.
Guide forgot to mention you need Corsola as soon as you can get one because it is the best, 0/10.
been a while since i’ve watched one of these, they still cook hard
Sorry man, it is not Tuesday today for me so i had to skip the bug catching contest.
For bugsy i don't blame the guy for messing up his gender since bugsy is a femboy
You're telling me Bugsy is NOT A GIRL????
My problem with the original gen 2 games are that the elite 4 Pokémon are to low.
The Nintended series is *BACK!*
Is that a Remake or a reupload? I'm super sure you already did this one :D
I am watching on a Tuesday!
well, the Bug Catching Contest IS on Saturday too, when you are uploading this.
I know these guides are traditionally plagued with mistakes, but I've noticed a very unusual "mistake" (for lack of a better term) in the guide. Starting at about 0:55, he flips to a page showing Zubat's evolution line which shows the newly introduced Crobat. From there, two more page flips shows Slowpoke's evolution line, now including the newly introduced Slowking. One more page flip and we see the new Bellossom added among the Oddish line. BUT....from there, the very next page turn shows the Poliwag line WITHOUT any mention of Politoed????
What move does Furret learn at level 80? Wrong answers only.
Love your content bro
I love these videos. They just make me happy to watch and listen to. They're comforting somehow. Man, I do wish I still had a working original gen 2 game, lol. Thank you for another fun video in this series.
God be with you out there, everybody. ✝️ :)
1:19 wasted opportunity to not say "to beat it as Nintendo..NINtended."
