Burning the flag is definetly one of the most iconic scenes in the series, all the implications it has and the willing of the straw hats againts what is to come is just memorable
Definitely, it’s one of the scenes that makes luffy the greatest shonen protagonist of all time, he doesn’t care about any of that, he just wants to get his friend/nakama back ❤️🥺
And Ussop missed it...
@@matthewpopow6647 Ikkk bro if Ussopp was there this scene would’ve been so much better. Sogeking was cool tho
Bro it’s so sad how Robin will never know how much Usop cared about her
@@livelaughlovesanji Agreed. Another thing to love is that the most cowardly member of the crew followed the order WITHOUT HESITATION. Beautiful storytelling.
when they become admirals, they are given essentially codenames, where it's a combination of a color and an animal. Kuzan is "Aokiji" which means blue pheasant
Up
Also, the manga makes this clear, but Sakazuki (the man with the hat who ordered the evacuee ship to be destroyed) later goes on to become Akainu, another of the admirals. Just put that in your back pocket, it doesn't matter if you forget it before it comes up.

Jack really makes fun of chopper for not noticing that usopp is sniper king then he can’t even tell that kuzan is aokiji 😂
it might just be that he doesn’t know his first name lol
LMFAO
Man, going back through Robin's backstory as an adult was so tough to watch. I teared up so hard when she yelled she wanted to live.
same here
Same
Same
Yeah the voice actor went hard
I literally watched this part on my own like 2 years ago, and it hit way harder rewatching it here!
Maybe that's partially due to the dub, but it's still so sad!
19:35 First reactor I've seen get literally floored by this flashback
This show is magical. It has definitely made me cry more than any piece of media I've ever encountered.
Yeah, I hope the emotional scene near the end of the arc doesn't kill him.
me before watching one piece: why do people cry from this show
me after seeing the first few sad scenes: okay maybe it is kinda sad
me after going through this backstory: crying more than ishinobi
For me, the saddest and most painful past is that of Robin and by far, because she went through a lot of pain from a very young age.
For me it's when she takes Olvia's hand and goes "I always wanted to hold your hand like this" and, ugh, it's such a small wish and she couldn't have even that and she's only 8! She's a child! She should have been able to take the hand of any fcking adult around her and expect to be told how cute she is!!!!
Brook’s backstory is the worst one for me 😿
Brook
@@keflalssj true
and it didnt stop until her late 20s which is wild.
I remember that you have always picked up on how Robin has nicknames for the strawhats, like "cook" or "swordsman", "navigator", "long-nose", "captain", "doctor". She never really said their names. This was probably so she wouldnt get too attached to them because she knew she were gonna leave them at some point, out of fear that they would betray her some day and think she was a burden.
Exactly...that alone says Oda is a master at his craft. Cause its one thing to set up characterizations in a heavy handed way; but to do it that subtly and so well it supportively helps your plot as set up along so, speaks the work of a brilliant mind and a brilliant writer.
dammit dont say that your gonna make me cry more as if i havent cried enough
Watch his ENTIRE ROOM be completely covered with notes when he catches up. This show is absolutely insane
Omg I can’t wait for his Post-Enies lobby reactions to go up on patreon and YT lol, I know he posted on twitter that he just finished it a few weeks ago, so his mind must be REELING from all the bomb and lore drops lol. I can just hear it now (spoilers):

@Lilrobert Lopez that has gotta be the corniest comment I've seen in a while
Been waiting on this episode for a while. That single line absolutely destroyed me and solidified Robin as my favorite Straw Hat. I am super curious about the Wall Piece, I wish I had thought of doing that.
I don't know why that moment in One Piece breaks me so much...I think it's because innocence is being violently tortured by the One World Government just to keep their dirty secret intact...Seeing Robin always on the run for 20 years because of it is heartbreaking...Really one of the saddest backstory of One Piece without a doubt...
This arc had solidified many things for me
The saddest one-piece moment yet
Nico Robin is my favorite one-piece character
One Piece is my favorite anime
Then again, as of typing this, I'm on Thriller Bark, and the pre timeskip arcs I'm excited about are Amazon Lily & Sabaody Archipelago
I think this is the saddest Arc in the anime so far, but then again mesuing sadness is kinda imposble
But i mean, crying like water fall. such a badass backstory with so many crul twists and then the final moment were Luffy ordes the navi flag burned clearly signaling his intent to fight every god dam obstacle in the world to get back robin
That had to have been the moment Robin became a strawhat in hear hart of harts, as now knew she wanted noting more than to go back sailing with the crew and LIVE.
This arc (this exact episode) made One Piece my favorite anime/manga.
Ooo you’ve got a lot of other arcs coming up that could be your new favorite - but robins backstory and this arc is still up there even now
Wow, how did I never notice that it was goddamn Sakazuki who blew up the evacuation ship in Ohara..... as if I didn't hate him enough already. Also: Pretty impressive that he made an appearance this early as well. Oda never fails to suprise me.
SAME. I forgot the exact point in the story when it was revealed that (spoiler):
Akainu is Sakazuki
I just remember by the time it was revealed, I had already forgotten they mentioned his name here in this scene.
So like damn he didn’t just make donuts, he blew up the evacuation ship TOO 😭

The jump cut to Jack just laid out on the floor from emotional exhaustion is ICONIC. 🤣
Iirc when Jack was just starting this series and was already breaking at less fleshed out backstories, I was thinking “oh, you sweet summer child” as I thought ahead to episodes like these. Man stood no chance. 😅💙
12:20 17:52 20:50 Kuzan is Aokiji's real name. Aokiji (青雉) is his nickname which means "Blue Pheasant" in Japanese.
It can be assumed Kuzan took on the nickname "Aokiji" when he became an Admiral. Many Admirals and some Vice Admirals go by a nickname.
Maybe this is a stretch but a lot of the big time pirates also get nicknamed, i wonder if that's also showing the marines aren't better than the pirates they hunt?
It's not even a nickname; it's an official designation. Admirals are given an official code name upon their promotion and it's actually somebody's job in the Marines to come up with them.
@@Illjwamh One of the most powerful men in the Marines, if you cross him he can just name you something stupid like pink hamster instead of black jaguar and your reputation is tarnished forever
@@Illjwamh Thank you for the clarification
Lmfao jack was like “ that’s not aokiji, it kind of looks like him tho”
Never have I ever cried so much watching any piece of fiction. The entire backstory is sad but Saul’s final words and Robin’s “I want to live” after the backstory is just utterly heart wrenching. I’m still in the midst of watching this series but I truly don’t see any arc topping this (& water 7) as my favorite
What arc are you currently on?
Water 7 is a wonderful choice for a favourite arc for sure but you'd be surprised how many people said that and then were still proven wrong. Aka found an arc that they loved even more. Because this anime really does not slow down
@@corvus6381 Nah, i'm up to date. Watersaven is still my favourite. Arlong's maybe...

The BEST moment in One Piece (for me).
I still give my applause to Robin's VA for giving her Voice/Character such Emotion.
6:40 hold it in Ishinobi, it's too early in the episode for tears just yet...
LOL i thought the same thing!! I'm like dude is not gonna make it
I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but I heard the "6 battleships" thing was Robin being blamed for Saul's rampage, as well, since knowing that having a deflector interrupting an important Navy operation would look bad in the eyes of the public.
This series is an absolute must-watch for one piece fans. It's the most accurate depiction of what we all felt watching the show for the first time, and honestly its just such a joy to see you react to all this!
20:07 Jack saying “I haven’t cried that long consecutively watching any media EVER” sums up OP in a nutshell. 🥹 This is the moment where SO many have said the same thing about One Piece almost VERBATIM. ❤️ Oda is a master of his craft, and One Piece is pure magic-it’s touched so many of us in unprecedented ways, I can’t name any other form of media that has reached into the depths of my soul like this. 🤌🏼😩 Many of us have rewatched the “I want to live” scene so many times and we still cry every single time. I ugly cried with you here. I can’t even begin to imagine how you reacted to the (spoiler for anyone not past this episode yet):
Merry funeral scene, that must’ve DESTROYED you. 😭I’m sure it did since you posted on twitter saying you’re done with post enies lobby and have been yelling/screaming so much watching it and that you can’t stop bingeing it 🥹 And to think this was just Oda warming up-
Welcomeee to the point of no return, Jack!!! 🙌🏼
For real my friends think I’m crazy when I tell them One Piece is the greatest story of all time. They haven’t seen it yet so they’re just like “it’s JUST an anime though”. NO IT’S NOT 😭😭 it’s a masterpiece..
@@Will_of_D_ssert dude yes. I like to say to people who tell me this, “Well, this ‘just an anime/manga’ beat out Batman’s spot as the #2 best selling comic next to Superman (not just manga, but comic-and I’m sure at this rate it’ll surpass Superman eventually) for a reason. Oda is amongst the top 10 best-selling authors right up there with William Shakespeare and Stephen King.”
This is pretty wild rewatching considering what was just revealed recently in the manga.
I was gonna comment exactly this lmao
Was looking for a fellow scholar 😉
Kuzan is Aokijis real name, Marines of the Admiral Rank (and above) get codenames like Aokiji (Blue Pheasant) thats why he was still called Kuzan in the flashback
One of the most iconic and saddest moments in One Piece! 😭❤️
i broke down so hard watching this and the thing is am still a child when am grown ill be crying for days.
I love sanji, chopper, franky backstories but this one takes the cake as the best strawhat backstory for me.
It's here one of the most touching moment. Really makes me cry every time. Robin story is one of the most interesting story that i am exited about and really looking forward to how it will conclude itself
I love Jack, it's always a bit odd to see him break down in tears,
but,
that's why I love this guy, he REALLY feels the emotion of this anime.
he loves and feels One Piece deeply, and he's not afraid to show us.
here Jack, a virtual hug my man. It's amazing how i can cry with you wathing the same thing i've watched a thousand times. I love these videos and your genuine reaction to the series i love so deeply
Jack not being able to tell that Kuzan and Aokiji are the same person reminds me of Clark Kent and Superman. All it takes is a pair of glasses XD
@iShinobi, thank you for showing your reaction on screen at the 19:12 mark. when you said back at episode 1 you wanted to watch One Piece, this is the moment i was waiting for. ever since the first time i watched it, i have the same reaction no matter how many times i watch Robin's scream to live. for me this is the most emotional moment in the entire series and i'm only up to Punk Hazard due to it being on Adult Swim. this is the power of Oda and One Piece.
Welcome to the club man!!
We have watched this scene more than we can count. Cried everytime. But strange is, we like to comeback to this scene and torture ourselves.
19:28 Franky is so very, very relatable. And... so are you, having some floortime to process this.

Enies Lobby arc give me such a deep impression after all this years. It's a real tearjerking moment when Robin shout out that she actually wants to live
The way Sogeking shot that flag, the strawhats firm gaze on her without any hesitation and Zoro even draws his Wado for a moment as if he's asking Kuina's blessing to make a vow to rescue her??
Am completely done and cry a river
This backstory is such an emotional rollercoaster and, also, it is absurdly important for One Piece's history. I cried with Robin, i felt a heartwarming about her and Olvia finally meeting, i have anger against the World Government and the mistery about the Ohara's discovering.... definitely the best backstory.
Btw, the thing about Kuzan-Aokiji's namr is because he is now an admiral (one rank below Fleet Admiral) and they have their real name (Kuzan) and a codename with a color and an animal (Aokiji=Blue Pheasant)
I WANT TO LIVE the most iconic line in this entire arc and also just a little word of advice you should probably have tissues on back cuz you'll never know what one piece is going to hit you with especially during the Back stories I thought you learned this lesson back during arlong
Sometimes One Piece just punches our hearts in the d!ck, but we still love it. 😭
Jack, I have seen hundreds of your reaction videos. This is the best of them all! Thank you.
You know Saul has that “Will of D.” because he went out smiling, for Robin’s sake…
“No one is born in this world to be alone!” and “I WANT TO LIVE!” still hits like a sea train even now.
One of the most iconic moments in OP, and still hits just as hard years later
Yes! Thanks for the thumbnail. This is my favorite moment in one piece and I was waiting for this.
Something neat that I've noticed, I think- this is the point where the World Government made an enemy of the Straw Hats, and it's ALSO the moment that they fully made an enemy of the viewer, too.
These past few episodes have been the most impactful One Piece episodes ever on me. One Piece saved my life. Thank You Eiichirio Oda
Came in getting ready to watch Jack cry but I can't see his reaction through the tears
These 2 episodes still the saddest flashback to me up to date
I really like your reaction, you are not shy to show your sweet side in the camera, We also feel that doesn't matter how many times we watch this
The saddest part of this arc isn't here yet prepare yourself
LOL RIGHT!!!! That's the wildest part.... like you think it's over...... but it's not!!
The moment One Piece had probably solidified itself as one of the best series ever, of all time.

I consider myself blessed for being able to watch Jack soften. I remember he didn’t cry at all through Naruto until Minato’s farewell.
What a character development!
Ice time CAPSULE?? When you finally realize the foreshadowing… Damn Oda
Bro. When my boyfriend showed me those episodes for the first time I layed in his arms and we both SOBBED for like an hour. I needed to like take a walk and have a few minutes to myself. This my favorite One Piece moment Roblin saying I WANT TO LIVE I will remember hearing her in the manga. God blessed Oda
God this episode will always stay rent free in my head. I tear up everytime Luffy tells Robin to "Say what you want to say!" And Robin saying "I want to live!" That will never not send chills up my spine and bring tears to my eyes
First i think i cried while watching One Piece was when Nami asked Luffy to help her. From that time onward, any emotional scene, i start crying. No other show/anime/movie has ever done that to me.
@@kpopx21xtim I want to live is such a good scene, the netflix adaptation fucked up because they didn't understand WHY though. The buildup wasn't there.
I love how Luffy is just the most emotionally intelligent character, and just finds sollutions.... "oh you are afraid we'll get tired of you being a target for the world government? there, I'm a target too, with or without you, now you can say what you really want"
the "i want to live" part might be the one singular part of one piece that got me to actually cry
Robin's past has the equal amounts of soul crushing sadness and awe inspiring hype. I caught up to One Piece in 2010's manga which is post Impel Down, and I still think about "I want to live!"
Robin’s backstory still hits the hardest. Looking back in this flashback with what we know today hits different
The moment she's asking if Olvia is her mom shatters my feelings, and then later all by herself in the little boat trying to laugh like Saul taught her (derishishishi) over and over, but it doesn't work to get happier. It gets me over and over
One of the things that always stayed with me the most were the books they threw into the water and how that was still better than the fire.
Back then I had no idea why this particular image of books underwater is the one I remember the most. Nowadays I am a librarian and even as I studied the dangers for books (like parasites, direct sunlight etc.) I always remembered: water is better than fire.
Wait the dude who blew up the evacuation ship was Sakazuki? Dang now that is some foreshadowing for the way he is before we even meet him. Glad I caught it this time around.
The voice acting... it is always the way she cracks whilst crying out that gets me. It is so sincere, so desperate and so true... S Tier Performance.
The "I want to live" moment along with the buildup always destroys me
I cry everytime watching these scenes, you can just feel the pain robin is feeling, and it's heart breaking
Kuzan is his name, Aokiji is his title as admiral given to him. It is based on his abilities and means something like blue pheasant. There is also yellow ape and red hound yet to come.
Small anime-only moment towards the end of Episode 278: Zoro seems to check over his equipment by unsheathing and then quickly resheathing one of his swords. Someone theorized (and now I believe it too) that this is actually an example of an ancient samurai practice called kinchou (金打), where two male samurai would clack the hilts of their swords together, making a metallic sound, to symbolize that a vow has been undertaken (women would do this by hitting their hand mirrors together). Since no one else around Zoro has a sword, he makes the sound by hitting his hilt against his scabbard, signifying that he has promised to take Robin back out to sea.
And he did it with Kuina's sword. "Telling" her: I need to make another vow (besides becoming the stronguest), I know you'd understand.
Sometimes it's just impossible to hold back tears
I tried a few times to get into One Piece over the years, but always struggled to get past the beginning. I'm now grown ass man watching this show and crying like a baby.
