my initial thoughts as a TANK main on the OW2 S10 mid-season patch

  • What the sigma?
    IMPORTANT: I realized I misread the armor changes (because I watched other videos covering the patch) as I focused in on the word 'projectile', this change just made armor stronger against burst damage alone, which is honestly a good change as that's what armor is supposed to help with. I still stand by most of the other changes being bad such as the -25% headshot damage changeit make a good amount of DPS heros weaker against tanks for no real reason while failing to address most of the most oppressive heros to fight on tank such as Sombra, Lifeweaver, Zenyatta, Echo, Pharah, Reaper, Bastion, Torb, etc.
    These changes really don't address any of the problems with tank for the average player (and I suspect high level players as well) and there's the usual set of seemingly-random buffs to characters that are already top-tier contenders or just didn't need a change. I think I've finally truly lost all hope in this game becoming good again.

    The Hanzo buff 💀🙈

    Mines getting a damage buff makes sense because they never got a compensation buff from season 9. Since slam also never got a damage buff, slam/ mine combo was nerfed pretty heavily. Only thing on mines I think will need to be watched is the knock back change. Time will tell if this was too much.

      firestrike didn't get a compensation buff lol, the slam stun change is pretty dumb tho

      @@szyl Didn’t they buff it from 100 to 120. I still agree that they should bring back two fire strikes killing tho. That being said rein got ability compensation in season 9. This is the first of balls abilities being increased. Not the biggest fan of slam change. It needed a damage buff but they opted for a stun increase instead.

      @@crush3304 from 100 to 120 while health went 200 to 250. Shatter got a range buff, but rein doesn't care in the slightest because slam value is almost identical, he's just less deadly and even easier to spam out because of the DPS passive.

    idk if you already addressed this or not but at 2:07 they mean "projectile" as in like any ranged attack that "shoots" something so that includes hitscan

    At 15 mins, you say that the armor changes are nerf to junkrat and pharah in favor of the hitscans. While the changes help most hitscans, especially chunky ones like cassidy, junkrat and Pharah are huge winners here. -5 dmg off a 120 damage direct rocket is way better than 30% off that direct.

      Yeah I hadn't fully read through it as I tried to write in the description, pretty nice change actually. The rest still suck though.

    When I came back I couldn’t stand Hanzo losing 1 shot, but widow is harder to survive a dive with, so naturally I came back. Honestly still fun, Ana Hanzo counters hog so hard. At least it would if immort was taken out. Why do 3 supports bail out bad positioning?

      they'll never nerf hog unless there's a huge community outcry on the hero. they're afraid to piss off any part of the tank player community.

    1:48 lmao that's the reason I fell from high gold to low silver in season 6: losing a game and the next game I had the same teammates 💀
    the headshot nerf on tanks + the armor is too much. 10% on headshots would have been enough.
    Nice buff on Junk, but Riptire still sucks, need heath buff
    Nice Ball change, I'm stocked!
    Nice JQ
    I hate Hanzo but his ultimate is useless out of combo, so a buff is not bad
    The rest is meh

      Sorry but how the armor change affects less hitscans? As I view it, the more projectiles the hero uses, the more armor impacts his damage output (5 per bullet, with a max cap of 50%, that means each Tracer bullet makes half dmg to armored tanks)

    my feelings as a tank player is that hitscan projectiles are a little easier to deal with than pellet/minigun damage. I can see a Soj rail, Ashe position, Soldier position, or whatever and adjust my position accordingly. A bastion doesn't give me the space to be anywhere but hiding out of the fight. On many tank heroes, DVa doesn't give me any space other than to just be completely absent, same with Reaper. Tracer can farm me from any angle and there's nothing I can do about it. By comparison I can play angles to deal with hitscan.
    Don't get me wrong. It doesn't change the fact that Soj and Cass are dominant and probably need a nerf, but from the tank perspective I feel those heroes are more manageable and a little less annoying. I can generally see Soj coming and do something about her even if I don't kill her. I can't do anything about an unkillable Bastion/Hog/Mauga/Reaper hard pocketed that my team just won't hit a headshot on.
    Full disclosure: I'm a Winston main.

    • @szyl
      @szyl  18 дней назад +1

      If cass didn't have his nade I'd have 0 problems with him (generally I play rein or doom). Souj is just annoying purely for being omnipresent, and my general hitscans complains were about them being generally favored by glizzard. Bastion is just a real pain the ass though, unless I'm on like roadhog specifically just because he demands so much attention as a tank.

    • @szyl
      @szyl  18 дней назад +1

      Reaper I find completely non-problematic as I'm generally able to match his damage and out position him

      @@szyl Reaper is the least egregious of the tank busters. I'll grant you that. But he still did way too much standing in front of the tank and just blasting them. It was knuckle dragger level gameplay that limited much more skillful tank play way too much

    • @szyl
      @szyl  18 дней назад +2

      @@jerod256 pretty easily avoided (especially on winston, he doesn't have the mobility/range to punish you unless you play particularly poorly). reaper is only really problematic vs winston when stacked ontop of other counters like brig, bastion, hog, mauga, etc.

    • @jerod256
      @jerod256 18 дней назад +1

      @@szyl you're definitely right about that. if you wanna be a monke-main you have to practice bubble-dancing and the art of kiting shotgun heroes and baiting out their cds. my point is more that monkey playing around reaper is way more skillful than the reaper playing around monkey, and the reaper is quite effective at limiting monkey positioning, and a little rebalancing was called for.
      If I lose my armor, its still the same as it always was. Its just that now managing my armor gives me a little more breathing room before I have to back off from the Reaper W-M1.
