- Last week I offended Victoria Coren with a joke about Iranian ex-con Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. She tried to smear me as "racist". In this video I explain why the joke wasn't racist, and why calling someone racist without justification should be classed as a hate crime.
I also uncover footage of Victoria Coren celebrating Nazism by drawing a swastika.

Hi, that might be true, but the whole point is there in what you wrote....GBNews (although mostly opinion right-wing propaganda and nonsense) is ostensibly a NEWS channel, not an entertainment channel (well it is not MEANT to be anyway)...so making some sort of cheap off-the-cuff (potentially^) racist and certainly insulting remarks really have no place. you are not comparing two similar things. ^I doubt the intention was racist...that said GBNews was set up to take on Fox to push right-wing ideas...and racism is one of the themes that seem to come up an awful lot.

Armed Forces use the rescue experience as live training to recover soldiers in the field. So its a sort of win-win for all involved. I'm afraid that ship sailed many years ago. I remember a guy on a political forum declaring me a fascist at least a decade ago. I defied him to define "fascist". He could have taken days to look up a definition in a reference book but replied right away that he didn't need a definition: he could "smell" fascists (over the internet!) and said I was obviously one. It was obvious then that he had no idea what a fascist was and just used it as a term of abuse for anyone that expressed opinions contrary to his own.

Victoria Coren, intelligent? No. Victoria Coren, funny? No. She attempts to mix intellect with comedy during the quiz show she hosts, and fails miserably. She has got where she is today purely by family connections to the BBC. She has little or no talent, but has still been handed everything on a plate.
Have never laughed at her slightly clever but dull jokes on Only Connect. Her hubby, a very talented comic, must cringe when he watches it.

Yep, I don't think Leo's intro prepared me for how truly shite the small snippet of her stand-up routine was going to be.
Comedy aside, expressing a true honest opinion that doesn't quite fit the "safe" herd narrative is now considered repugnant and inflammatory. People are often far too quick to get the branding iron out from the hot coals and poke it in a person's direction before they've even taken the time to digest and process someone else's opinion. Debate and open discussion without fear of being branded is good and healthy. Certain words are thrown around all too readily now to describe someone as just a means to shut them down quickly. When repeated often enough, others will buy into it with zero evidence or foundation for fear that they'll also be branded the same way.

Not that amazing when you think about it. Victoria is part of the TV "in crowd". And if you want to *stay* part of it, this comes with certain expectations - you need to be left wing, or if you are not left wing at least express sentiment that is generally left wing, or at the very minimum not say anything that could be construed as "right wing". So when she defended Jimmy Carr (which she did either because she believed it, or she was sticking up for her friend, or maybe both) that probably raised a few eyebrows. There were people who challenged her on it in public, but probably even more behind the scenes - TV executives and fellow talent wanting to make sure that she was really "on their side" and that they could continue to invite her on all the panel shows etc. She was probably freaked out enough at this that she decided to take the first opportunity she could find to do some good old virtue signalling. Pick a soft target on a TV channel that is hated by the mainstream in-crowd and call them racist. Simple - she has now proved her credentials and is back in the club.

Britain owed Iran £400m for a legitimate debt. The fact it took decades to pay and the eventual release of an innocent dual national citizen as a bargaining chip, is not a good look for the UK.
The victim in all of this seems to be the butt of the joke. Surely we should be making jokes about the utter incompetence and neglect of the UK government, or the Iranian governments cynical approach to resolving an overdue debt. But i guess GB News folks prefer punching down.

Her defence of Jimmy Carr as a 'decent person' is the funniest thing ive heard from her. Victoria Coren's "attempt "at comedy on this podcast, is most definitely "ageist" !!!!. I find her presentation/version of comedy unacceptable and deserves to be criticised.

Here's what I know that this silly woman doesn't, mainly because -- as a retired U.S. military officer -- I've been forced to deal with the problem of Iran for decades, including back in '88 in the Arabian Gulf (I won't call it "the Persian Gulf"): There are a ton of languages spoken in Iran, including Arab dialects (there are Iranians who are ethnic Arab, and they were the rocket scientists that stormed the Iranian embassy in London and took hostages way back in the day... which also gave us a few movies about the kick-@ss SAS lads. So... just what color IS the boathouse at Hereford? (Shameless movie reference there). Bottom line: The hostage the UK paid a lot of money to get back is UNGRATEFUL. Keep on keeping on, Leo. We watch you all the time on Comedy Unleashed. "Hilarious guy," my wife (who's also retired military) always tells me.

I record and later watch University Challenge, which has the unfortunate side effect of catching the end of Victoria’s nerds only quiz show. Being a semi-nerd I’d watch that too if not for 2 things. The annoyingly repetitive pseudo music, and of course Victoria herself.
The Sky Q recording always starts just before her long drawn out witticism that ends her show, which is usually about as funny as a bout of dysentery. I can only imagine she writes it herself as it’s always highbrow and cryptic and delivered with her characteristic misplaced self confidence.
I congratulate you Leo on extracting those diatribe tweets from her, and maybe she’ll learn from it that poking a wasps nest isn’t always a good idea.
Have you noticed the number of female favourites at the BBC who get the family in on the act. Coren-Mitchel and husband David Mitchel appearing on each others shows. Lucy Porter and her husband appearing on the same panel shows and Rebecca Front appearing on the same programme as her brother Jeremy. It's all very cosy at the BBC - for the favoured few.
Victoria and her husband are part of the post modern comedy trend of comedy without anything to laugh at. Thats because jokes that are funny are passe (and require hard work and takent to write/deliver)
I find her husband funny but she has barely raised a smile let alone a laugh
My parents talked about their first oranges and things. It was so annoying, I mean their parents fought in two world wars and lived through the great depression. They only had one world war and rationing until Dad was drafted. Bloody privileged they were. This poor girl has truly suffered, she didn't get her first iPhone until she was four!

it was their money. the uk government, for various reasons, refused to give it back for 40 odd years. it was a debt that uk owed iran. it was always iranian money, paid by iran, to uk, for goods it never received. it was paid back, not given as a bribe. it was like me saying i would paint your fence, taking the money but never buying the paint or indeed painting your fence. if i then gave you the money back, would i be doing you a favour? would you see it as me giving you some money? i think you wouldn't see it that way.

Its gone on about 15 years longer than it should have, with presenters reading off an autocue too obviously (Victoria, that means you) and people on it who are good at pretending to know about politics. And as for Iran, WHY do people still stand up for that country?

Hi Leo. Interesting because I was told to call the language "Iranian" and not "Farsi" by a school friend whose family had left the country after 1979. According to him, the name Farsi was politically loaded and its use lent support to the intolerant government in Iran, and many opponents preferred simply calling it Iranian.

That's nonsense. Iran is a multi-ethnic, multi-language country. Calling Persian "Iranian" is an insult to those Iranians who speak another language, such as Azeri or Balochi. The equivalent is calling English "British." There is no such language, which makes it perfect for the purposes of this joke. It's like "XX is the American for XY" (hint: there is no language called "American").
@@DieFlabbergastOnly one slight thing; there is in fact a distinction for English. British English, American English and Australian English are all separate dialects due to a few differences here and there. Not quite as major as the differences between Iranian languages I'm guessing but it's enough to distinguish the three.
@@DieFlabbergast When someone uses the termAmerican to do with language, you can be sure that it is because of some sort of change they made to the original English, so the criticism of its use in the way you outlined would be perfectly fine.... same with Iranian, IRAN simply being the modern word for Persia, with FARSI being the Persian word for Persia and the main language used there.

Having dealt with numerous Iranian people over the last two years, I can confirm that your school friend is incorrect and they all respond to, 'Do you speak Farsi or Kurdish-Sorani'. No-one every replied, 'Neither. mate. I speak Iranian.'
After Victoria's knee jerk reaction, because of her flawed ideology, she realised she was wrong. So rather than say sorry and moving on, she tried to steal man her position digging ever deeper into a BS spiral. This is a major flaw in her personality which she needs to come to grips with, big boobs, playing poker well and marrying a local celebrity will only get you so far.
