      The price of "freedom".
That you can buy and legally ride a motorcycle only from completing msf courses is so extremely different from other countries, especially european countries where the requirements for getting a motorcycle license is very very significantly higher. In Sweden it usually takes months of practice lessons, theory tests, safety lessons, low speed maneuvering tests, high speed maneuvering tests, motorcycle safety tests etc, to get a motorcycle license while in the US, a complete beginner could legally hop on a Hayabusa after a weekend of msf. It's insane.
But that's why people who first ride a motorcycle in the US, like this guy in the video, most are beginners and really aren't that good at riding at all. Because the requirements aren't that high. They have only gotten through what is needed to pass the test. This differs a lot from other countries where riders get their license several tens of hours after practicing. By the time they have gotten their license, they have already gotten decent at riding. In Europe, if you need to put your foot down while going at low speeds like 2-3 mph, you have failed the test. It's generally difficult to pass the test and get your license, but that ensures that those who are out on the road have all gone through that.

@@jmw8403Isn’t it a small world sometimes, because I actually have family in Göteborg. Is Liseburg still a lot of fun? Lol But, yes it’s comically sad how easy it is in the United States and get a temporary “provisional license” (no road test required yet) and take a Hayabusa for a fast ride. 🤦‍♂️ *big whoop that no passengers or night time riding allowed yet with provisional… and I remember reading about ten years ago, that the US has like over twenty something times the amount of single rider accidents (with no other vehicles involved) compared to the next highest country in the world. Sadly, even though it blows my mind, it’s not hard for me to believe.

Videos like this don't remind me of any personal anecdotes, they remind me of how flawed the american system in regards to obtaining a drivers license is.
It's ridiculous that this person got a drivers license at this skill level. If you can't even manage to leave the parking area without stalling, you shouldn't be allowed on public roads whatsoever.
This flawed system literally cost this man his life. Sure, he might have killed himself even after a proper training, but that training would have certainly minimised the risk.

I'm seeing many comments praising this kid for this video. I want to throw my two cents in, especially after hearing that he tragically passed away in a bike accident recently.
This is not what a new bike owner should be doing or aspiring to. As a new rider, the safe option when buying a new bike is to either have the bike delivered, or rent/borrow a truck and bring it home yourself. Once you get it home, practice on side roads or in a parking lot, for a lot longer than he did in this video. Doesn't matter if you took a course, riding on a live road with a new bike is different. Taking a 35 mile drive home as a first time rider is not a good idea and is a huge risk. Makes me think this kid was always a bit of a risk taker. It's terrible that he passed away, but this video is not something to aspire to. Ride safe, don't take risks.

    • @royalxjade6064
      @royalxjade6064 Год назад

While I do agree with your advice to encourage others to have their bike delivered if they don’t feel comfortable, it is up to each individual rider to please trust your own judgment. Definitely better to be safe than sorry though.
Maybe you shouldn’t pass judgements or make assumptions about his skill level or if he was a risk taker or not. You didn’t know him so please don’t make those kind of judgements, feels like a dishonor to his memory.

I feel like I'm one of the only lucky one's who learned to ride before I took the MSF course. Made taking the MSF course a breeze because I was already 6 months into riding and my slow speed skills only improved after that weekend. This was very brave! I was able to learn because my mom put the motorcycle registration under her name, so I was able to still ride and learn with my M1 (she's been riding her whole life). Then she transferred the bike to me once I received my M2. I learned to ride while fiddling around my neighbourhood and driving around the same block for thirty minutes. I'm sure my neighbours hated me hahaha. I was brave enough to hit the actual streets after about 30 minutes and haven't had any major issues since! Seeing how much more confident you were by the end of the ride shows just how easy riding can be! I truly wish I learned to ride when I was younger but I'm also glad to have become a mature and aware driver before hopping on something so dangerous. I try to tell all of my non-rider friends how easy it is, in hopes of encouraging them to learn as well. Nothing beats this hobby man! Keep it up :)

Was scary as hell, since it was my first ride on moto in the city too, and we don't have broad roads like this to practice... My sincere respect for recording this on your first ride! 650s are amazing as a first bikes, this engine very forgiving on newbie mistakes, yet really fun to ride after you get used to it, I am still scared to push throttle to full on first gear, lol.
    Wish you nice rides bro!

  • @J.Arnold

This video put a big smile on my face in the best way.
Take it really steady at first. It's easy to be lulled into a false sense of security in your first few years of riding.
Also, I'm sure you've gotten a lot better since late March, but just a few words of advice from someone with 10+ years of riding experience:
Don't shift gears whilst in the middle of a turn (@4:48); It's a recipe for disaster.
When you're coming to the stop at an intersection or light, don't pre-shift down to 1st gear 100+ ft before you come to a full stop, if you ever need to take an evasive maneuver, you want to be able to return throttle to that rear wheel which might not be something you can do without your bike putting you in serious risk coming from an average road velocity. Instead, shift down steadily as your speed decreases to what gear you would normally be in for that range of speed. Once you've got some decent experience under your belt, learn how to rev-match to engine brake on your downshifts (it takes a while to learn, but it gives you a massive amount of control over your motorcycle).
Also, it's a pretty good idea when coming to a stop at a red light or intersection to keep your bike in first gear with the clutch held in instead of plopping it directly into neutral. Keep it in first until the car coming to a stop behind you actually comes to a full stop. The reason being is that people get rear-ended in cars because drivers don't pay attention, imagine how much less likely they are to notice you on a bike. If you ever get sketched out as to whether or not someone is going to stop in time, you can always release your clutch a bit, give it some throttle and use an escape path out of the line of danger.
I'm really beyond happy for you and can't wait to see future uploads and your progression as a motorcyclist.
    Be safe out there, mate!
