I would be interested to know the hecklers credentials. I know many people are self taught in a variety fields and I don't discredit their experience but being passive aggressive with someone who has a doctorate in art history is insulting.

I was having flashbacks when my son was rude to his therapist and said, You tell me, you're the expert! Embarrassing.
Premeditated, she went there to prove something. Only to prove what a rude and uneducated person she was.
Dr Lori can be rude and arrogant sometimes and she has lost some credibility in her appraisal don't get me wrong certain things she is verry knowledgeable in a lot of stuff but the prices she belts out are in best case senior in an auction setting but not always going to be that good

@@nunyabisnis1448 Thanks for your comments. What did I do that makes you feel that I am rude? My values are based on actual sales when similar items are resold. I'm sorry you don't agree. Hopefully you are not reselling items too low and losing money. Insurance and auction values are different. I explain the different types of appraisals in an article on my website. You might be surprised what auction values really mean.
This is a good example of one of the many reasons I respect Dr. Lori, she’s a great teacher! A great teacher asks you questions and gets you to use your critical thinking skills instead of just telling you the answers and expecting you to memorize. When she asks questions, she’s not expecting you to have all the answers - so don’t be afraid to guess! I hope that pottery “expert” got chased out of there with her tail between her legs. Part of me feels sorry for her, she’s not going to learn anything if she thinks she already knows it all. I think Dr.Lori handled the situation with class, I would have had a hard time keeping my cool with that lady.

Im a single older woman (60 ish) fully supporting myself selling items that I find in thrift stores and yardsales ! I know very little about most of what I sell but I am so grateful for your channel, incredible knowledge, just amazing.

Oh boy howdy was the tension thick in this one. Dr Lori handled that with grace and dignity. I get the same thing in my field of landscape design. People ask me to help design their gardens, and then question everything. Thank you for clearing up the info on Nippon. I keep finding conflicting information online.
I hear you about your profession. Glad I cleared up the conflicting antiques info online. There's alot of mistaken or misleading info out there.
Yes. The last website I read through looked credible. It said things were marked Nippon till 1917. I need to find me some good credible reference books for my library.

There is a grammar expert one too that corrects people on youtube. He/she literally called me out on my grammar or something and punctuation and said he/she has some kind of English degree and used to teach or write. I had to tell him/her that I won't respond anymore and he/she still wrote back a few times.

Hehehe, that woulda been great!! "Ahhhh whoopsies!!" Lol! My immediate thought of her was probably someone in the family told her that story...that it came over in a covered wagon and all. But falsehoods are easily passed down thru the generational lines. My philosophy professor taught on day 1 of class, "If you can walk out those doors the last day knowing LESS than you know right now - I have succeeded as your teacher." We are ever learning and shouldn't act as if we know it all. Shame on her!

Goodness! This is like an amped up history class and i gotta say, I really hated trying to stay focused on history in school but this is more my style. I’ve always been really good at recognizing beautiful pieces and have an eye for them, but idk the history behind them. This makes it all much more enjoyable. What an amazing job to be able to do what you love, and you are so good at it.

The lady described as a "heckler" or "passive aggressive" really sounds like someone who was married to a family story that wasn't true. The idea that grandma lied to her and she'd been telling the lie to her own children was simply unacceptable. Her reaction typifies cognitive dissonance. I wonder if or how often I've unknowingly done that. Please kill me if you catch me telling an expert of this caliber that I knew more LOL!

I was smiling hard with the last piece. Dr. Lori is always very knowledgeable about pieces but with that one you could really hear Dr. Lori's education and art appreciation coming out. Like she just couldn't resist going back to talk about overall composition, balance, and color diversity.

Nkt alot of people would have handled it as well as you.. and 2 I have alot of old ceramic and pottery, it helped me understand more for some reason more in this video. Not sure why. And when I am out at flea markets, it finally has been clicking in. On what is what. Idk, I could go on and on. Lol. That “lady” was so rude and to waste everyone’s time as well for a once in a lifetime appraisal. You handled it seamlessly and didn’t skip a beat. I’m very impressed!! I think I would have been at a loss for words. Just keep in mind Hon that if someone acts like that in public they are likely ten to twenty times worse when they are alone with people they’re “close” to. That kind of rude behavior isn’t from anything you did, you’re fantastic, it’s a problem with their head and or heart. I appreciate what you do for people!!
