As someone who's played RS from age 10-28 (as well as a significant amount of Minecraft during middle/high school), I believe that playing sandbox games, with few well-defined end goals, really helped my personal development. A game like RuneScape taught me that life isn't about settling into a single goal or mindset, but rather about exploring what means the most to each unique individual (ie YOU).
Ill tell you playing with a friend is what got me sucked in. Me and him both are life long wow players, we started at the same time and have played for that past 16 years. He started Osrs and it made me play too. I was the same where I started a few times in the past and gave up, but this time I have been playing for over a month and I now have quite a few 70+ skills and one 85. Playing off each other competitively and sharing new knowledge we learn is such a great time. I have really enjoyed the simplicity with the option of more complicated gameplay.
Yeah it def is way better when you have some friends or a clan to talk to and compete/learn with for sure! I'm glad you are enjoying it and you will have your first 99 in no time :P
I think it's unique charm of OSRS being so easy to get into but also brutal in being old-school with the RPG mechanics Everything especially on ironman feels earned and there's always something to strive for.
I think a lot of the feeling of being lost as a new player comes from the current state of the game. Back when the game was created in like 2003, people would actually use the in game chat for other things than spamming phish websites and scams at GE. There was a whole community interacting with each others in game. You would see a player with a cool sword and instead of learning about it from a youtube guide or the wiki, you had to chat with them to learn about it. You would end up adding each others and have a few casual castle wars matches afterwards for example. The general mentality was more about exploration and discovery back then, nowadays everything is known and people focus on optimizing. Also new players have a hard time making connections with current ones because the skill/knowledge gap has become so big. Theres many more reasons like the current average player age compared to when the game released. Btw, I use firefox instead of chrome and youtube doesnt require adblock to be off. I had the same problem as you until I saw someone comment about Firefox and it fixed it.
100% man its long past the good ol days were people were way more social and I do miss that part of the game the most tbh. also thank you for the comment and checking out the video :)
Nice vid! If you got just a bit better of a webcam (and worked on your pronunciation of "iron", haha just messing with you) you might seriously have a future of having some of these reaction vids get real big. Got a like and a sub from me!
@@leiferikson7052 Absolutely. It may be even more the lighting like you had said more than the webcam itself. I just wanted to give you my opinion in hopes that you could really gain a big following one day, the content itself was actually really good to listen and watch. I'm sure I'll catch you in another video soon. Have a good day!
This is true I often will do slayer one day then a afk skill another or maybe spend a few hours doing quests there so many things to do that you should always be able to find something fun or to just pass some time :)
bro i just tried wow for like 10 hours and all i could think about is how much better osrs is.. haha no bs im just glad i didnt pay that 15 dollars. osrs has soooo much more content bro. i learned in wow there is really boring questing, dungeons you can auto join from the menu, and end game set date and time raids... its just not good when being compared to osrs. the only bad thing anyone can say about osrs is "bUt Th3 Gr4ph1Cs ArE B4d~!~!~" .. well its great that one thing ive never cared about are graphics when in comparison to how good gameplay is. just get rune lite and amp it up like i have. it looks great and osrs is honestly the only game on earth that this saying applies for all who has ever played it. "you never quit runescape, you only take breaks."
Exactly lol Runescape is and forever will be the best! People who don't think so just haven't actually tired it yet! imo wow is a watered down version. people do like simple though lul
Wow pvp is way better, I hate the gear switching on osrs it's just annoying. I like how you lose ur items in osrs though I wish wow did that. I've played both since I was like 14 years old, I'm 33 years old now.
I started laughing with you when he said the guides kept saying "do whatever you want". I agree with your views as well. RuneScape is meant to literally do whatever you want there isn't a true structure.
haha yeah its so true! and also sorry about the sound it will be fixed in the next video if you stick around :) it's super nice to have some feedback and comments finally lol
@@leiferikson7052 i subbed before i saw this u seem down to earth and understand the game humbly. Itll take some time to work on the vids being perfect but you keep going brother.
Don't spend 10KGP on a house when you can just complete the daddy's home quest in less than 5 minutes with no requirements. And you get a free house on top. Of other reward items and you get like 9 construction levels.
Sup man , i know its kind of a me problem because my monitor speaker sucks but even with the volume up i could barely hear anything . idk anything about recording , just thought you may want to know :) .
you are good lol I noticed it also and the next video should be fixed that I am posting tomorrow. Thank you for the feedback though much appreciated! I forgot to check the video playback levels like a noob. It sucks bc I feel like its going to hurt the video that may have done a little better if not for the weird sound off balance but what can I do lol it is what it is and I learned from it
Yeah I totally agree. If you try to min max this game like WOW you're going to get burned out quickly, at least most people would. How I started my main account now was doing all the f2p quests and then just chopping trees until I had enough to sell for a bond and then I chopped magic trees in the WC guild until I got the beaver pet. I literally only did that for like 350 hours because I like chopping trees and chatting with the people skilling with me lol. If you tried to force me to do the optimized quest guide and grind grind agility on rooftop courses I would've just quit. I think what draws me in to OSRS opposed to other MMOs is its freedom and abundance of self goals you have. Wanna farm marks for graceful? Go do that. Got bored? Take a break and do slayer tasks. Need money? Go train smithing while making bars at blast furnace. There's no restrictions on what you should be doing at any one given time, so that helps someone with ADHD like me be able to bounce from task to task while still making significant progress with skills and GP 😅
Hell yeah man my first 99 ever was wood cutting lol there is just something about it! It is a sandbox and there really is no real way to play it. It is the truest form of it's your adventure and world go have fun! and Thank you so much for watching and chatting :)
Being "too overwhelmed" and going into examples of details such as "stealing linen from one random stall" to make money, and "not knowing that you have to talk to one random guy and pay 1k to buy a house" all really, in my opinion, stem from one basic issue: *new players, actual proper new players who have never played 'scape before in their lives, should NOT jump straight into membership.* I mean what kind of degenerate starts up a 20+ year old online game with such vast amounts of content and thinks "Yeah, I'm gonna pay for it immediately and not even exhaust all the f2p stuff first"? Like come on... that's on you at that point. As a new player, you should get to a point where you've conquered free-to-play, to #1: *know if you even frickin like the game enough to commit money to it* , and #2: be used to its features and mechanics so that the membership expansion doesn't completely explode your brain from day 1.
I actually completely agree with everything you said tbh lol. F2P osrs is actually a really good trial for people to get their feet wet and see if they like the game and also you have more opportunities to meet other new people who are more willing to talk and not just be sweating everything they do lol. Like when i made my hcim to try it out I only played f2p and made some friend just fishing at barb village.
i grew up playing both and its because retail wow is terrible and classic wow is for an experience that most ppl arent looking for. and runescape is simply just way better

The best advice is finding a clan and getting involved with events and getting advice for what to do

OsRS is the most in depth MMO there is, and it’s also the most basic MMO.
Wow. Literally started osrs 6 weeks ago. Never looked back
Welcome I hope you enjoy your stay ^_^
Leif Erickson bro thats such a funny name lol, subbed on that alone xD
Thank you so much! Means a lot! sorry about the sound it will be fixed next video :)

Heck yeah brother! The real know whats up!
I like the video man but you gotta do a tad less commentary
I feel weird if I don't talk because I wanna add what I can so i'm not just sitting there blank face letting the video run lol
you need friends to play this game
and if you dont have any friends, stand at the ge talking to people until you have some
or you can fish at Barb village or do Woodcutting :P

its ease of access is appealing. I made a WOW account and went back to OSRS recently also if you believe in wild trends lol..
OSRS just built different lol

lol but we still love it bc the ground roots are soo dam deep
