  • The 5M53 test run service running from Hellifield to Carnforth Steamtown was operated by The Class 40 Preservation Society Class 40 Diesel Locomotive Number 40145/D345West Coast Railway Class 37 Diesel Locomotive Number 37706 and was seen storming through the Ramsgreave & Wilpshire Station near Blackburn on the Blackburn to Hellifield Line on the 15th of July 2024

      Actually, I was unsure as to what was coming down the line as this train was doing a circular journey and the first part from Carnforth to Hellifield appeared to show it traveling at 60mph on Real Time Trains, which is the speed limit imposed on most mainline certified steam locomotives, so I thought wrongly that this could be a steam test run for Tangmere BR 34067, which was having problems last week and another train stood in for it over the weekend.
      However once this circular journey had left Hellifield it was given a top speed of 95mph, which would imply a Diesel, so a little confused I waited and caught Heritage Diesels 40145/D345 & 37706 storming through Ramsgreave & Wilpshire Station.
      So now you know what I was hoping, what do you think of the video Tristan?
