I don't understand this either. This is a fictional story, but I've heard of men doing this all the time. Why? We're their ex wives that terrible? Do they think an affair wife will be a better one? Marriage is marriage. It comes with daily friction, fights, ego checks, compromise, and plenty of boring steady expectations. That's kind of the deal.

Surely. That cheating man is more of a braggart then a peacock and if he thought for one second that his his mother was not going to punish him for what he did a decade ago he won't see it coming and unfortunately he didn't. Hayden should stay with his wife and forgot all about that girl but now he decides to run off with her to Spain of all places. Beautiful get has very dirty water that is Spain
I graduated with my associates degree when I was 18. I then went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree at 20. I was taking college courses while I was in high school.
From what can be understood Mabel gave her ex-DIL more than enough money for her & OP's daughter. However Hayden DOES owe his mom for her paying in his place so that'd be interesting to see.
Why did he think that he can go back to a house he left 10 years ago. If his Ex moved out , the state would have taken it for taxes long ago. Plus the house would be returning back to nature in 10 years? If he was gone and couldn't be found and the wife stayed, sure the house would be put in her name. How stupid could this guy be? Glad it had been in his mother's name and destroyed.
After 7 years she could have had him declared dead. He would have had some explaining to do with the courts to get "resurrected." Which is actually funny with how the story is going.
Hayden is lucky that his mom is giving him a chance. Yes, he is spoiled and will probably have a hard time since he never takes anything seriously (from the story) so by working hard and giving him enough time, he could make the place livable. He is lucky that his mom is staying overseas LONGER which gives him more time (his mom still loves him and giving him a chance) but if he slack off, I am sure Maddy will report and mom will come right back, but as long Hayden keep on working on the house (with random spot checks from afar) Mom will probably "stay away" until he is done. She got the money and she can have fun and just read reports of Hayden's progress.
I love the idea of the house showing ten years of abandonment. But I wish it had been a good, sturdy house, that was absolutely lovely and livable (with photos to prove it!) at the time she bought it. "Look, son, what you would have had, had you come back right away. Just like your marriage, a sturdy, comfortable, lovely home. But, like your marriage, and your relationships with your daughter and your mother, you now have a home that is overgrown, dusty, dilapidated, and hard to handle. Can you restore the house to what it was before? Can you restore your relationships?" I'd like to hear from the daughter, who was just graduating college. Does she even care that her father is back in town? Does she want to see him? Or does she want to spit on him?
Actually an amusing story. One “tell” that it did not originate in the US is tearing down the house, then selling the land. Usually, house and land are sold together and the new owner decides to demolish or not.
Demolishing the house, clearing off the debris and leaving the property in 'ready to build' condition might make it a more attractive property to buyers esp in a high demand area.
Usually the presence of a structure (like a house) on a piece of land increases the value of the property. If the buyer is looking to buy several adjacent properties, to build a shopping mall or something big; then having the land vacant would be preferable.
Omg Hayden's laugh is very annoying. Who could put up with that everyday. But I do love the karma in these stories.😂 And Mabel is just a sweetheart. Hayden doesn't deserve her. Lmao I got to the ending and it's perfect. 😂
Found out the other day the difference in giving birth in America vs abroad. Who’d choose to come here & pay for everything when the cost would be less in Spain? 😮
Guy is complaining real hard about a free house. Maybe it's just because i grew up in fixer uppers, but seriously??? First obviously get house inspection, but assuming you don't have termites and the house isn't about to go up in flames from bad wiring/faulty hookups or flood from the pipes... Buy a gallon or two of fabuloso, some commet, a few space heaters and some box fans. give everything inside a mop/wipe down and disinfect the sinks. Rent a carpet shampooer and deep clean any carpet. Put any left behind furniture outside to sit in the sun and clean it. See if the fridge is any good, if not find a used one or get a minifridge until you can get a new one. Note any roof damage, broken windows, major exterior danage, patch it and see if it needs proper repairwork. Pick up any big debris from the yard. Mow the lawn. Get the house exterior power washed. BOOM everything major is settled and the rest can be handled as you have time and funds. Hell give me the house I'll take it.
I personally know nothing about renovating a house. If that was me after making sure it could pass inspection as a fixer upper I would get in writing everything that needed to be done. I would naturally start by getting an actual job so I could earn the money to pay for the repairs. I also think I would lease a trailer or something I could have on the property to live in with all the necessary utilities hooked up during this time. While I’m working during the week on the weekends I would be busy with the repairs on the house. Not knowing how to go about such things I believe I would start with the foundation first. After the foundation is up to code I would work on the walls and finally the roof. Such things as plumbing, electricity, etc I will either handle as I go along with the repairs or afterwards. I would make sure everything was in tiptop shape and passes inspection before I started painting and decorating the house. Of course during this time I would make sure to do the yard work to keep that in check. After the house is finished I can decide what I want to do to make the yard look nice.
